Fantastic. A precise but comprehensive tips for all students bypassing the barrier of 1st & 2nd year students in IIT. Some of the tips are equally applicable to people of all walks life. Very good job done by you.
I think it's applicable to Professors also...thank you for the ideas 💡 .. I can see you're working 💪 on editing..love the tiny bits towards the beginning... All the best for the upcoming videos. 👍
Fantastic tips sir, i also feel i am laking in social interaction as compared to before covid, and feel sad my first two yr of clg spent in home ,i'll definately try your tips
As always, excellent video Sir. All the points are very important and extremly relevant. Just one thing I would like to slightly differ from you with due respect is that instead of writing in a diary, I think students should build the habit of typing in standard documentation format, for eg- LATEX, etc. This will also help them in the long run. Also sir, one out of the context question that I was eagerly waiting to ask you from is that- Is INR 30,000 p.m.(approx) stipend enough for a PhD student to afford a quality living in IITs?
I am a big supporter of students learning to typeset their reports in LaTeX. However, as I have grown older I have realized we should exercise a certain moderation in spreading our own enthusiasm for a certain process/software/workflow, especially taking note of what it is exactly that we are trying to encourage or teach. In this case, the focus is on teaching/encouraging the students to start writing in the first place. I have realized over time that first and foremost, student needs to develop the maturity to form coherent thoughts and translate them to well-strung sentences. This is absolutely necessary prior to any form of serious writing whether it is writing fiction or non-fiction or technical and scientific articles. So, when the student is first learning the ropes of this writing, he needs to face the least amount of resistance in terms of the medium he is using. The least resistance for the large majority of students is when they just put pen to paper, instead of switching on the computer, firing up the word processor or ... the text editor. Furthermore, when he writes on his diary it is only and only for himself. Secure in the thought that his writing - no matter how immature, how unpolished will be for him and him alone ... he can actually allow himself the freedom to actually put words to paper without second guessing at every moment - with every written letter - what the world will think of him. There is another argument to not using a word processor or LaTeX (especially LaTeX!) early on. Even if, for argument's sake, we suppose that the student brings himself to learn LaTeX, without at the same time losing his enthusiasm for writing in the process, there is a certain danger to using LaTeX. And that is: LaTeX facilitates the creation of such beautiful looking documents that it perhaps gives a false impression to the writer that he has created something beautiful and professional when the truth may be that the writing is still very much immature and incoherent. And that can cause serious harm to the process of the student in his endeavours to actually learn how to write. Regarding your second question: For PhD students, it is INR 31,000 for the first two years and then INR 35,000 for the next three years (of course, with the condition that he is satisfying the intermediate stages at the right times). But, yes, if the student does not have any family burden, INR 31,000 (and that too tax free) is a comfortable amount of money to get by within the campus. I am, of course, assuming middle class living habits!
I had made one video for M.Tech students but they were general tips. But your ideas are good. Let me think seriously about them. If I can string together some useful tips, I will make a video.
Gr8 video SIR, CAN U pls make a video on SCHEDULE during ENGINEERING STUDIES... and also how to manage time b'cauz time management is an issue for new commers
It is a pity that the 6th counselling of IIT is getting delayed and there is no promptness in opening. That itself shows your habit of delaying inspite of squeezing of date of joining, Students have to plan well ahead. Please help us.
Sir, I have done my undergrad in mechanical engineering, did a lot of research in thermal engineering. But I want to switch to aerospace for a postgrad. Should I go for it or stick to the area I'm familiar with and have some exposure ?
Respected Sir, I am currently studying in class 11th in South Point High School in Kolkata, preparing for jee 2024. It's my earnest request to you sir to make a video on how to get rid of negative thinking. Also since the pandemic began I have started developing death fear and being apprehensive of sudden death. Please sir, I hope you will see this comment and make a video addressing this. Regards Adriraj Goswami
Sorry, Adriraj for the late reply. But I have been travelling a bit. What you are mentioning is very serious, and I am no way qualified to give you a professional advice. My sincere advice to you is to first talk with your parents and seek out some professional help to help you counter the negative thoughts. You are from South Point. So you MUST be a very good student to begin with. I am sure with you a little bit of counselling you will be able to overcome your negative thoughts.
@@Prof_JC Thank you so much sir for the advice . I am trying to get over this . I have not yet told this to my parents. But definitely I will now try to tell them this.
Sorry, I don't have any idea about the placement scenario for that course work. Perhaps you can email some professor involved with that course for more information.
sir will the cgpa of first year be important if the rest of the three years are offline.actually i scored less in 1st year as it was online. And u perhaps now how tough it is for students to do online classes(especially for first years).
CGPA, as per its full form, is a cumulative score. So the 1st year grades very much affect the final CGPA. But, note that there are many instances where students have managed to pick it up from their 2nd year onwards with the result that at the time of graduation their final CGPA is actually good! It is definitely possible.
@@Prof_JC Sir actually i asked this because since it was online so u know a lot of malpractices and unfair means are involved as u had mentioned in one video.
@@AYANTIKB I understand. But please don't dwell on thd first year. Please go ahead and do your best from the nest semester onwards, when God willing students will again start getting marks in accordance with their preparation and performance genuinely.
Hello Professor, i think the tips which you have given in this video, is applicable to all sects of students, right from school kids till graduates. But I am just confused with only one point of being an introverted personality. I am an extrovert and find it extremely difficult to survive without social connections. So I feel that, at times that introverts are much more lucky, as they are able to enjoy their own company. I can observe most of the points, which u have mentioned in the video, both in my son and daughter. Especially my son has the ability to communicate with people at all levels. I mean, not knowledge wise, but he can keep talking cheerfully. He has written some stories, writing his experiences in diaries, which I read. I can't stop laughing, because he used to pour his heart out and write and it would be really so funny, when read at my age. Me and my daughter silently read it and laugh about it. He used to write about the scoldings which he gets from me, his fight with his sister, his skin care tips 😂 etc. (He is just 10 years, but still skin care tips). I really liked the point when u mentioned about Mr.Poirot. Though I haven't read the book, i have seen Agatha Christie's Poirot series. My kids have finished reading Harry Potter all the Seven books, but only God knows how much they really understood the story. But they tell me the missing scenes, when we watch the movie. So I feel, they have understood the book to some extent, rather than trying to please me. Anyway Professor, very nice and informative video as usual. Thank you
You are absolutely right. Some of the tips are equally applicable to all sections of students. Thank you for sharing the stories of your children! It is wonderful that your son is writing in a diary from his everyday life experiences at such a young age. If I remember correctly, it was not until I was about 15 that I started writing in my diary. Skin care tips! Hahahaha. He is an interesting lad. I hope he does not mind you and his sister reading his diary secretly! :) I really like Mr Poirot although I haven't read too many stories involving him. I recently read (after meaning to for a long, long time) the famous "Murder on the Orient Express". If you find the time, do give it a read - it is unlike any other detective story that I have read! I never got around to reading the Harry Potter books myself. Those books, I believe, were responsible for reviving the reading culture across certain generations of students world-wide.
@@Prof_JC Sure Sir, will read that book. I vaguely remember seeing that episode, sometime ten years back in some UK television channel, though I am not sure, as i have watched so many episodes. It's available in TH-cam actually. David Suchet, starred as Mr.Poirot back in all those series. Harry Potter, as you mentioned, truly revived the reading habits. And I must say, "LORD OF THE RINGS". OMG. It's a true epic Sir. It's like Harry Potter is for children and Lord of the Rings for adults. My brother used to read both these books, under the blanket with a torch light, to prevent getting caught from my mom. I think phone and tab has taken away the reading habit of this generation. Hope students develop and understand the importance of such habits, after watching ur video . And forgot to mention this, my son just allows me to read the diary, but I include my daughter as well, as it's too too funny. A very good stress buster for me. He has not only written about skin care but also first aid, cookery tips( making paneer tikka, dosa, sambaar etc). 😃😃
