This programme is the first and only memory I've got of sitting on my dads knee watching TV. Wow. 51 years ago. A very happy memory. Thank you so much for uploading it to TH-cam.
My brother and I were, and still are, avid railroad fans, and this show had us in front of the television for EVERY episode. Thank you for placing this show on TH-cam for our enjoyment! 🚂
Casey jones steaming and a rolling, for anyone who doesn’t know what I mean is, Casey jones was an American railroad engineer who was killed when his steam locomotive collided with a stalled train, there was a tv series with Casey jones played by Alan Hale in the late 50s and was rerun on British tv in the 60s and was a weekly half hour series
I was a mid 60s kid & loved this series. I worked in the machining industry for years & while arguing with one of the technical so called experts from the office about why we couldn't make what he wanted with the equipment we had, He glared at me & said " don't tell me it can't be done I'm an engineer ! " My reply was " so was Casey Jones & all he did was toot the whistle ! " He had never seen or heard of him so the comment was lost on him. University gives qualifications not ability to use them....
I remember watching this show in 1958! One of my fondest memories at age 3. This show, living a block away from a railroad crossing, and a local children's program ( Cartoon Express with Engineer Bill Stulla ) sent me on the path to being a life long railfan.
This was a wonderful American TV series. They used to show it on British TV back in the 1970s and early 1980s, in the afternoon during the school holidays. And, back in about 1983, there used to be a takeaway hamburger restaurant at Charing Cross railway station, London, named Casey Jones. In the corner, by the exit for Villiers Street. Casey Jones takeaway restaurants were in most big railway stations (Waterloo, Euston, Liverpool Street, Victoria, etc.). Actually, their burgers were really good, as well.
I don't know why this suddenly popped into my head, but even the tune as well as the name. I remember watching this as a kid. Must have been a repeat because I wasn't born until 1958.
As a kid I loved this show so much that my first pet, a rabbit, was called Casey Jones. That tune has been in the back of my head for over 50 years and still reappears from time to time. However, somehow my brain transformed the lyrics to "Casey Jones, steaming like a loco". Thanks for the memories.
I got mine on eBay. There is no regular company like CBS DVD producing the series, but the outfit that made mine did a good job. It's public domain I believe, so it's ok for them to do it.
I very vaguely remember seeing this on TV in the early 90's, up until today, when I randomly decided to google, I thought Casey Jones had been the train's name!
@Aqua Fyre I didn't mention, but I was a 6 year old child. My mom was taking me and my sister from school and she pointed out saying: look, there's a train! I looked and looked and couldn't see one. Of course, I thought all trains were like Casey's, that is why I was disappointed after seing a diesel locomotive. It was more like a monster to me.
I understand how you felt. I lived a block away from a railroad crossing and noticed the same thing. My first time seeing a static steam engine was when I too was six. I was pretty excited to see that and a strange feeling came over me that they looked familiar and felt a kinship towards them. Maybe I worked for the railroad in a past life. 😉😄. It was many years later that I learned why they switched to diesels and been a life long rail buff.
Just now was probably the first time I've seen this since it originally aired. Surprised at the syncopated rhythm of the music rather than straight time which would sound more like a locomotive. Well, they didn't ask me at the time!!
I knew Gilligan and Mr. Howell had regular roles before the island...but the Skipper, too? Seriously I vaguely remember the Casey Jones show from when I was 4 or 5,and the theme song has been used and parodied in many other shows and ads.
@@stevencameronmckelvey-vaug2953 It also appears in Back to the Future 3. To not ruin the movie I have decided to refrain from revealing the locomotives actual top speed.

I love this show but there is a goof in the part where Casey jr is pulling the whistle he kept pulling down on it and it only gave one toot but if this were real the whistle would have kept blowing until Casey jr let go of the cord also in some episode it changes from a whistle cord to a whistle lever
Yall do realize Casey Jones was a real person right ? but his Real name was John Luther Jones and his nickname was Casey . he died in a collusion on the Illinois Central in Vaughn Ms. in 1900
There was a song about the real Casey Jones written shortly after he died. The published version had an added part that suggested his wife was unfaithful, for decades she had to live with that untrue charge.

That's a big part of what's wrong with everything these days
Hiring should be based on merit
and affinity for the job
I enjoyed watching this in the 60s as my own dad was a steam locomotive driver promoted from being a fireman
It’s a pity the Casey jones series isn’t seen on line for free as I would love to watch the series again
It's literally been nearly 40 years since I've seen Casey Jones on TV!🤔🚂🛤️👩🔧📺🇺🇸

Yes! I'm actually stunned to find it's so old, as it was a highlight for me on English TV early 70's 😊
Have always liked watching Casey Jones, love the tune of Casey Jones start and finish.

I'm so glad I can still watch the reruns!, They don't make great shows like this anymore
Watched this as a kid in Australia, possibly early 70s. Loved it.
If I remember correctly correctly, we had this on telly on a Sunday with all of the family watching.

Boy do I remember that show I was 9 years old, yes do the math I'm 73, It was a shot run Tv show but is was great.
I remember this show so distinctly--and THIS is how I most remember Alan Hale, Jr. (or fils, as they say in French).
I saw it the second time around. Very cool.

Steam locomotives and cute dogs. Perfect.
I remember the show was on Australian tv probably the mid to late 70s as there are photos of me wearing the denim cap like in the tv show.
As a five-year-old I named my first (black) cat Casey.
The boy who plays Casey's son looks to be a truer "little buddy" than Gilligan ever was lol
I believe this locomotive is the hooterville cannonball
