Katie, in EVERY kit I've ever watched you test, you always TRY to highlight something positive about it, no matter how small. One of the reasons I love your personality so much is your 'glass half full' mentality. With that being said, if YOU say it's THE WORST.. I'm preparing myself for what MUST BE a complete dumpster fire 🤣🖤
You beat me to it. I literally stood in that section of target last night thinking i needed to do this. The box was way too light to make what they pictured it made. It was worse than I expected
Aggravation here notwithstanding, you look so much more relaxed and happy since going to a single video a week! It's really nice to see. And I can't wait to see the revamped studio.
Omg, I almost bought this soap kit for my 4 year old and me to try. Then I saw that there was- of all things- WHEAT in it! She has Celiac so that was a deal breaker for us. Glad to see we didn’t miss out on anything!
I have had to explain to people so many times why body products and cosmetics have to specify being GF. I’m sure you have already realised how astounding it is that most people really don’t know what ingredients are in everyday items! I am not celiac, but I do have an autoimmune disease and have to be mostly GF because it can make my fatigue worse.
Will gluten cause a skin rash or something if she has celiac? I always wondered why soap says gluten free because even with severe celiac you’re not drinking shampoo.
@@juliamelone8109 no, it’s only if it’s ingested. However, a gluten particle smaller than a crumb can do lasting damage to a Celiac’s intestines. With things like soaps I worry about my daughter not rinsing it off all the way, or being trapped under finger nails and then putting fingers in her mouth. There actually is a skin reaction to gluten as well, but it also has to ingested for the reaction to take place (I think). Called dermatitis herpetiformis.
@@juliamelone8109 Usually, no, Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease triggered by a reaction to an enzyme in gluten which doesn't get broken down during digestion called gliadin. When there are reactions outside of digestion, such as skin contact or like in the air or being around it, it tends to be a gluten allergy. It is possible to have both gluten allergy and celiac disease, so it's hard to say if it's possible for a celiac to have such a reaction and not have gluten allergy.
It seems like that candle vessel was chosen for the aesthetics of a "legitimate" candle instead of trying to make a genuinely good value and cheap product. I think a tealight candle kit would be really fun for example, and a lot cheaper to produce
"Baby powder and chalky mints" is one of the most horrifying scent descriptors I have ever heard, and that's not even considering that you're describing a *vanilla scented* soap base!😖 I can only imagine how awful that would actually smell once combined with that woodsy, cypress body wash...🤢
THANK YOU for reviewing this and saving other people the heartache. I bought one of these a few weeks ago because I thought it looked cute. Just something to do one night. I was so angry with this soap kit omg. It never dried out. It didn't look anything like the box. It was crap!!! Idk if I did something wrong, but the instructions were terrible so there's no way to know the "right" way to do this kit.
I bought the candle kit a while ago and was so aggravated when the candle was not even filled half way with wax🤦🏻♀️ I ended up melting down some old candles and creating a layered wax look. Still, so frustrating!
For the candle kit you could probably get a small pack of melting wax at the dollar store, as well as a small jar and a scented wax burner. Supply a tea candle to burn it (or pick it up there for an extra buck) and you have a cheap candle kit. Only thing you'd be missing is a wick, which I'm sure there's tutorials of making online out of household supplies. That's roughly how I made family some really not great candles as a teenager for a bit better than what target threw at ya
St Vincents thrift store had giant blocks of wax that I made candles out of as a kid, I also got a small crockpot and a ladle from there, and tried making candles out of cake molds and jars and stuff 😅 wicks are pretty cheap at the craft store too, it's not 3 dollars but still pretty cheap as a "kit" and I made a lot of candles, also now they sell essential oils at the dollar store, not sure how good they smell but you could use as fragrance
my local dollar tree does sell candle wicks! only downside is that my local dollar tree is one of the ones that changed everything to $1.25. we also have like 10 pack of tea candles that you could probably melt down. or you could just buy a large, good smelling candle from the dollar tree…
I'm so glad I passed these kits in my 5 dollar and less target section, and got a 1 dollar plastic cow wearing a knitted poke dot green hat and sweater!!!
I love that you were actually shocked speechless for a moment or two at the false advertising of the soap kit. That was absolutely spot on and hilarious. Thank you for sharing your joie de vivre and overall zest for the fun things in life, Katie. You are amazing!
This was absolutely amazing, what an utter delight on a snowy afternoon. I'd very much love more "terrible craft kit" videos like this, with maybe alternatives you can find in the same store? (For example, Target body wash, glycerin soap, silicone baking molds etc)
The burn time of that candle is going to be almost silly. Most quality candles will have a sticker on the bottom of the jar cautioning you to stop burning the thing when the wax is down to less than half an inch. So...light it, blow it out and make a wish? Ooo, I know what to wish for! I wish Target would stop selling misleading craft kits in their dollar area!🤣
I love all the craft kit videos and will watch all of them. Even though I will never make one myself, they're just so fun to watch and listen to the reactions for.
Oh my gosh! My mom got me this kit for Christmas because I’m always talking to her about how cool and relaxing your soap making videos are and how it makes me want to make soap And now you’re making a video on the soap kit that my mom got me because I’m always talking about “the cool soap lady.” It’s come full circle
that soap from the soap kit reminds me of the gritty powder soap they had in the bathrooms at my elementary school back in the early to mid-90s. if you know what i'm talking about, you know...
You should create and sell your own kid-friendly soap making kits. Do the pre-colored melt and pour with a mold, maybe some embeds, some safe glitter, a small thing of fragrance, etc., along with gloves, of course. I imagine that you could create some really cool themes and designs.
Oh no, I just bought these to learn how to do both. I guess I'll use this video as a guide of some sort. 😅 (i've had candle scents, shea butter melt & pour soap base and other stuff lying around for months but been way too nervous to try it.)
I went to target with my best friend last month and saw the soap kit and i wanted it so bad but talked me out of buying it and i was secretly so bummed that i didnt get it, but now I’m so glad i didnt omg
Oh lord I work at target and I was looking at these kits and was like, “ This would so be one of the most horrendous kits on the planet that it would have Katy quaking.” Now I see you make this vid, the universe heard me😂🤣
I literally love your honesty and smart jokes! I am so excited to see more videos. I’m starting my new crafts business and I can’t wait to learn from you.
I think the skimped out candle kit was fair for $3 tbh. Especially if it smelt good. But that soap kit -- that would be a scam if they were handing it out for free.
As soon as you pulled the wax bag out of the jar, I knew it would not be enough :) A ballpark is double the amount of solid wax to the container. So sadly this was doomed from the start!
Katie. I LEGIT took a picture of these when I was at Target last week to send you 😂 I never did and you beat me to it lol. Thanks for saving me a few bucks 👌🏼 👍🏼
I'm thinking for the candle kit, the manufacturer didn't even think about the necessary amount of wax to fill the candle. Since they put the wax flakes inside the candle, they honestly probably didn't put enough thought into the fact that once the wax is melted, it will not actually fill the jar.
What was the powder in the soap kit made of? I'm really curious with how gritty it was yet not bubbly, fizzy, or anything I would recognize in a bath product.
When I saw you try and lather with the $3 soap, it reminded me exactly of the time when I was 8 years old and trying to wash my hands with solid watercolors....💀✋
I bought this damn soap kit in pure joy and optimism! When I tell you my level of peeved was at an all time high… I was FaceTiming my cousin who got to witness my anger and disbelief live 😆 We laughed so hard when we saw your thumbnail!

I bought this very soap kit from target to make with my daughter and had every problem and reaction that she had! I'm glad I'm not the only one, when I clicked on the video and saw the box I thought "oh no! Don't do it to yourself katie!!" Lol
I bought this same soap kit and made it the other day. I knew I shouldve waited until you had reacted to it! I left mine in the mould until they fully dried and had some better results. They do dry hard and bubble okay after they've been fully dried
Katie, in EVERY kit I've ever watched you test, you always TRY to highlight something positive about it, no matter how small. One of the reasons I love your personality so much is your 'glass half full' mentality. With that being said, if YOU say it's THE WORST.. It was, it truly truly was. 😂
I was expecting it not to be soap and i was kinda right
As soon as I heard 'body wash'... instant dumpster fire. 🔥 hah
Cathlynn! What a pretty name! I've never heard that before, I like it.
K I'll watch this assuming pretense of dumpster fires in the making! *grabs popcorn and prepares to be shocked*
You beat me to it. I literally stood in that section of target last night thinking i needed to do this. The box was way too light to make what they pictured it made. It was worse than I expected
HAHA
I did the same. I picked it up and thought it was far too light to actually make anything decent. I decided it needed to stay at Target.
I saw it in Target and was like Katie would do this lol. It's still sitting on my shelf lol.
I don't care what the background looks like. I watch for you, Katie!
Awww thank you!!
Same. I didn't notice until she pointed it out. Hahaha!
I feel like if that candle kit was just 5 bucks instead of 3 they could have added more wax and it would have been perfect.
I literally had to supplement with more wax to fill it to the top…. Not cool :(
You know a soap kit is Really bad when you have to wash your hands AFTER using the "soap" from the kit...
Aggravation here notwithstanding, you look so much more relaxed and happy since going to a single video a week! It's really nice to see. And I can't wait to see the revamped studio.
Awww thank you!! I am feeling it as well!
I'm not wearing my bifocals, and I just read 'ravenpawed" studio! 😆😆😆
I'd rather buy a candle already made for $3 than the amount you got in the kit. The soap kit is a total joke, not worth it even if it was 25 cents!
😂😂😂
They do actually have nicely scented $3 candles lol
I love how Katie labeled it “lavender vanilla soy cande” because let’s be honest, it doesn’t deserve the L.
She took the L, for this kit 😂
