    The XSR are a nice looking range of bikes, personally I think they are much nicer looking than the MT series. Also nicer than the Honda Neo Retros, but that’s my personal preference. I don’t know why there is not a MT03 based version anywhere in the world, I have an R3 myself and I would have gone for an XSR 300 if one existed.

      Could happen we have the xsr125 xsr700 xsr900. Way better than the Mt range. I would love a xsr900.

      I would buy not one but two XSR with that R3/MT03 engine, it's the only decent looking retro styled motorcycle from the Japs. The CB300/500R is just too modern and Suzuki's SV650 is actually a retro motorcycle in it's own right since it's been around since forever

      Yeah, I don't know why Yamaha doesn't make a proper bike for 300cc, they use the same design for the last I don't know maybe 10 years, just changing the headlamp, no major improvements.

This bike has lived up to expectations and I love it. Highly recommended for anyone starting off on motorcycles.

    I gotta say it, why not make it in a 250 version? the size wouldn't be markedly larger and the engine would probably end up more highway worthy, and the extra power would probably also help when riding with an additional passenger. The price difference probably wouldn't be that big a deal either and be in a similar market. I should say either way its really cool!

The 155cc engine has 16hp and its fine for 90kph trashing along for hours with grunt left over to blast past trucks doing similar speeds. Loving it so far.

    I started out on a Yamaha XT250 which was a hoot in the city, and as charming as these things may seem, I would never go as small as 125cc. It is simply too weak to go any decent distance, especially if you'd want to bring your girl along with you.

      They really struggle on any incline. Probably fine for going around 30mph . Maybe 35mph. I know a guy had a cg125 and never went over 35 on it. Around 5,000rpm in top gear at that speed. Most of the time these 125's won't even pull top gear that well

    Interested to hear more on the brakes and suspension. Front brake is not as nice spec as YZF-R125 and MT125, the forks are also thinner / weaker as well. MCN comments were confusing, they slated the brakes but said the ride is excellent with same rear shock as R125. Well I own the R125 and on that bike its strongest most standout feature is the brakes, weakest the rear shock IMHO. On bumpy back roads forget NSL unless you like being kicked out of the seat from time to time, 45 smooth, 50 to 55 OK but 60+ she doesn't like the bumps and I am convinced its the rear shock more than anything else. The brakes though are amazing, two fingers from 60-30 is as quick as in a modern car (I used to race Porsches), you seemed happy with the brakes so maybe MCN had a bike that needed a brake bleed or pads bedding in? The fuel economy of this engine is genuine, even thrashing the thing cross country I see around 105, any ride that involves cruising speed or following traffic and she is back over 120 mpg again. I think low speed commuting would easily see 130+ mpg.

      @123 Have a look on motorcyclenews.com, they criticised the braking. Like you I find it hard to believe. I am interested in this bike as a back lane and commuting machine, the R125 is a fantastic bike but clip ons and fairings are for fast roads and the track, not comfortable etc for sub 50 mph riding where a 125 is at its best.

      @neilhaughey6869 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @123 Thanks, fingers crossed for you and this bike. Personally I think the 2021 Duke probably has the best spec in this class now but the looks are not for everyone.

      Hi Neil, the brakes and suspension on a bike like owes a lot to the size and weight of the rider. As mentioned in the video and accompanying review, Im 6ft and 14st where as the MCN reviewer is much smaller. For my size on the roads we were using on the test route, the suspension had a hard time... well, my bottom did. There was minimal rebound over cracks and pot holes but then again it's designed for the city streets or slower town riding.
      The brakes were absolutely fine for the job they have been designed to do, on this type of bike and for the type of customer Yamaha has in mind. The initial bite is strong with little lever movement required with the stopping power very linear. I did't find the dual-channel ABS intrusive when hard on the front brake but it was eager to pulse on the rear - locking the rear was easy.
      In terms of mpg, the claim is north of 130 which is entirely possible if the riding style suited. Frankly, an organised press ride will determine possible the worst economy - towards the end of the day it was firmly under 100mpg, hovering around 97/98.
      You take the purpose of the bike into account when looking to buy - it's not a back road warrior but it certainly entertains in unchartered territory!
      Hope that offers a little clarity and if you have any other questions just holler. Thanks, Michael

      @@bennettsbikesocial Thanks Michael that's a brilliant reply. Timely reminder that I need to make the time and get my tests done if I am finding the suspension is slowing me down on our backroads. That and I get numb tingling hands on long rides from the single cylinder vibes. Still though despite moaning about the clip-ons love my bike to bits. I am 11 stone or 70 kg or thereabouts for reference for anyone reading, haven't had this much fun on the road since I started driving 3 decades ago.

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @123 Simply put, pressing down hard on the rear brake will cause the ABS on the rear brake to pulse (demonstrating the ABS was working) so the tyre would still lock/release/lock/release, etc.

    Too expensive for what it is, plus 125cc bikes are dangerous / inadequate for real world conditions anyways. Any and all kinds of highway and long distance work will ALWAYS be a problem. Also forget about riding 2 up. Yes, if you're poor, young, or stupid enough, you can make almost anything work, of course, but at what level of comfort and safety? I know from personal experience that motorcycles smaller than 250-300 ccs are just not worth it at all.

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well 17 year olds can't have anything else for 2 years so it's this or nothing. I do agree a 125cc does nothing a 250cc can't do better. An xr250 is actually lighter than a xr125. And the power of a 250 4 stroke single won't be to powerful. I've ridden loads of 125's most struggled to get 60mph. Best ones can get near 70mph on a flat with a tail wind in a tucked position. I've got a de restricted aprilia sx50 (2 stroke ) I think it's better really than a 125cc (4 stroke) the 125 let's you down when you need it most. I've done motorways on 125cc bikes it's very scary I was praying it would keep going fast enough I was pinned open.
