    Concerning the first game ball count: Shannon made 2 balls on the first score of the game. the 7 ball bank in his pocket and the second shot was the 3 ball in Efren's pocket. Efren owed a ball and Efren placed the 7 ball on the spot and placed the 3 ball on Shannon's side of the trough. So when Shannon won the game it wasn't an incorrect count it was the choice of Efren to place the 7 ball banked into Shannon's pocket on the spot and the 3 ball made in Efren's pocket by Shannon into Shannon's side of the trough.

    ♥♥ Billy (the commentator) was wrong about the first game. Shannon was the only player to pocket balls in the first game. He pocketed 9 balls - one of which went into Efren's pocket (which Efren had owed because he had taken an intentional foul, earlier). The other 8 balls were pocketed by Shannon into his own pocket.

  • @kolaas2006

    well what I meant was is that he keeps going on in discussions. There is even a point in which the other commentator is very polite: giving him all the respect, respecting his opinion and all that. and the other guy just keeps going, And then the other guy just decides to deescalate by naming all the sponsors!
    Ofcourse his opinion is one of the most valuable, since he has been world champion but he should work a bit on commentating TOGETHER.

    Regarding the thing about the 3 ball and the commentators thinking the score was wrong... Efren owed a ball... When he pocketed the 3 ball, he spotted the 7 ball. No big deal. So... Daulton moved the 3 ball to his side and the score is correct.

  • @OnTheRailTV
    @OnTheRailTV 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah the 3 ball was made in Efrens pocket but Efren spotted up the 7 ball which was Shannons, no big deal.

    The reason it takes so long is that you never want to give the opponent a chance to start a run. That is why the shots for the first 30 minutes were all defensive (putting the cue ball near the other shooter's pocket.) You want unobstructed balls near your pocket so when the other player sells out you can run out.

  • @roo7227
    @roo7227 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do.. One pocket is a defensive game.. Each player has a pocket at the foot of the table, and the idea is to shoot offensively at your hole, trying to make 8 balls (which is a majority of the 15) before your opponent does, with the caveat that you leave nothing offensive for your opponent to shoot at when your inning ends.. So, it's about positioning, and setting traps.. But also, it's about risk/reward evaluation, meaning, if you have a 7-1 lead in balls, there's no need to risk a tough shot..

    Actually in games such as one pocket, snooker and straight pool they use a safety break for various reasons. Right now we are watching one pocket, its a game in which each player has one designated pocket in which they are allowed to pot balls. The design of the break is to put a few balls out in front of your pocket leaving most of the rack in tact while no balls are in front of your opponents pocket and the cue ball is at the other end of the table.

    Watch the movie "Turn the River" for a little better understanding of the game. Although the movie is obviously made under the assumption that everybody understands "one pocket", it makes it a little clearer. After that, look up "one pocket rules" on Yahoo! or your favorite search engine. It's really not that difficult to understand....

  • @bogbot11

    i could imagine practising this game would do wonders for delicate finesse shots that are far less frequently played in 9-ball

  • @angellover91436
    @angellover91436 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ljcayie it is called "one pocket". at break time, a player picks one of the lower two pockets as his pocket. the objective of the game is to make 8 balls in "your pocket" before your opponent makes 8 in his. a ball made in your opponent's pocket counts as a ball for them.
    if a ball is made in the other four pockets, it gets spotted back.
    if a foul occurs, you spot one of your balls. if you have none, you will "owe" one.

  • @angellover91436
    @angellover91436 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ljcayie if you make a ball in the same time as committing a foul, that ball spots, and you still have to spot one of your own.
    a ball must contact the rail after the cue ball strikes a ball. sometimes people take intentional fouls so they do not give their opponent a shot.

    Cont.. And consequently, if the score is not in your favor, say if you're down 6-2, or 7-3, or even 5-1 (ball count), then it may be in your best interest to shoot aggressively, to turn the game around..
    It's a gambling game, and it allows for a wide range of handicaps to match different levels of player.. One of my favorite ways to play is with the backgammon cube, which allows me to "offer the cube" to my opponent, if I like the situation.. forcing him to quit, or double the bet..

  • @derrickallen2054
    @derrickallen2054 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can someone clarify something about Billy's story? When he said Efren gave him "the 7 AND the 10" playing 10 ball. I know what getting the 7 is, but isn't getting the 10 already a given since it's the money ball for both players?

    • @douglasbyrd7412
      @douglasbyrd7412 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When gambling playing one pocket the player giving a spot must pocket more balls. Playing 10/7 means Efren has to make 10 balls in his pocket and Billy has to make 7 in his pocket. The first two balls that Efren pockets are spotted (after he finishes his inning). Thus more than 15 balls are in play.

    @hammerknocker31649 You are right man. But what I meant by lazy was something dif. When I learned to play I would go into the room at 1pm and start doing drills for atleast 4-5 hours 3-4x a week. And I was not the only one doing them. When is the last time you walked into a room and saw more than one guy drilling consistently? To some the purpose of gambling is to strictly make $. For me it was to c who could hold up under the pressure. Its not bout how much u have. cont...

  • @gumaming
    @gumaming 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @carneyfex i totally agree with you that 9 pool is rubbish. As an amateur player like myself, I play it for the fun factor but for professionals its rather low, and winning short race 9ball tourneys isn't the basis of great skill and talent. That's why players like Reyes would sometimes easily lose. If all the balls pocketed in 9 ball, including the 9 on the break are called in, then and only then that I will have respect for the game. I'd rather prefer 8ball, long races,round robin matches lik

    @GypsieChris For sure brother. All pool is is a grind and you cant win anything. Everyone want to bet 20 and win 1000. I beat a guy our of 40 bux the the other day and he went nuts, but right after that he went and sat down at the poker game and lost 400 and. (We have a poker game in our poolk hall) I know that there is a skill factor in poker, but the luck factor outways the skill. (not in the long run) The only way the skill factor counts is if you play with the same people everyday

    @wizrun1 I dont think they are but Efren is a professional player. He is one of the best in the world and to see him mess up fairly routine shots is uncharacteristic for him. I also am a fellow one pocket player and you just cant make mistakes that he made. It would be ok at my level cuz im not that great.

  • @anphelps27
    @anphelps27 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @GypsieChris Ok, let me say it like this. Nothing takes place of experience, but in a game of poker, you can be in a certain position with certain cards and make a play you consider to be correct and win. Repeat that same situation and change ur opponents cards and you could lose. Skill falls into poker when you play with the same people all the time. Going to sit down at a new table, your flipping a coin more or less. THERE IS SOMEONE NEW EVERY YEAR ON TV WINNING SOMETHING.
