As someone who speaks Norwegian, I would note there are bigger discrepancies, particularly between Icelandic. The other three I can agree with, but Icelandic is far harder to understand. As someone who speaks Norwegian as my second language, I can pretty much understand Swedish and Danish. But, would rather speak english to an Icelander. Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish are like siblings, Icelandic is like our close cousin. And Finish is that weird neighbor down the street.
Agreed. I'm a Swede. Norwegian and Swedish are similar to each other when you are speaking it. Danish to us sounds "oatmealy," like they have oatmeal in their mouth. However, Danish and Swedish are similar when you are writing it. And Icelandic is so different.
Well of course you can't understand Finnish, it's not a Scandinavian language, it's Slavic. Icelandic is really different because you've been cut off from the rest of the world for the past thousand years.
Finnish isn't even a neighbor. He's an Alien!!!! Because that language isn't even Indo-European. Even Farsi spoken in Iran is more closely related to Icelandic, Norwegian and English and such.

It's fine, the sirens are actually set up around the entire country and they're mostly used locally to warn against fires releasing poisonous gasses, and it's standard procedure to go inside, close your doors and windows and turn on your radio or TV to await information from either local news stations or DR (public service channel owned by the government, short for Denmark's radio)

yeeey, shed some light on our little lovely contry! I have met too many ppl in the US and UK that have no idea Denmark is a country that actually exists!
One thing you didn't mention, and it's probably one of the most important things, is the explanation behind the high tax system. We get free medical care (no matter what it is), free tuition (from elementary schools to high schools to universities to workman educations - everything is covered). Now, we're just getting started. Students, when older than 18, get paid for studying. This amount can go up to $950 every month. You see, we're covered by the state of Denmark. If we're educating ourselves, we get a thank you that can cover accommodation, food and more every month. If we're fired, we're getting unemployment benefits. These are just one of the great things about Denmark and why I strongly believe that it's one of the best countries in the world. To sum up: Denmark has a stable government, low levels of public corruption, and access to high-quality education and health care. And yes, the country does have the highest taxes in the world, but the vast majority of Danes happily pay as we believe that higher taxes can create a better society.
AlexanderPihl *Denmark, Norway and Swden talking about how get their welfare is. USA comes out of nowhere* US: "You are paying with your taxes!" ....... I havent taken that from the Satwcomic :)
I couldn’t agree more. Americans might think we are crazy for paying such high taxes, but having been to the US I actually believe our living costs are cheaper than theirs. Even though we pay a very high tax.
+AlexanderPihl Let clarify something about our healthcare system. Far from everything is covered. Dentistry is not covered, physio therapy is not covered, mental health is covered if you don’t die before you actually get to your appointment. Most psychiatrists have a waitlist of 6-12 months, some even longer. If it’s an emergency there is help to get but you better have strong plans of how you’re going to kill your self before you’ll get a bed for the night. I have spent the better part of 20 with a depression that was difficult to kick and of those I spent 1,5 years in bed because my depression was so bad that I barely could take care of myself. I knew I was not sick enough to get the help I needed, so I decided to wait it out. Believe I was grateful for the 3 years of cancer treatment my mother had before she died, but we need to not kid ourselves in regards to our healthcare system. There is a reason we only rank 3-4 places below the US in healthcare, mental health being a big part of it.
Being from the Faroe Islands, I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get our own episode, but atleast my house was in one of the pictures you showed, so it's alright😂

I spent 3 weeks in Danemark one summer with my parents, my brother and my cousin. It was one of the best country I ever visited, and I visited a lot of places ^^ I would just rank Canada higher in my preferences but that is due to personal memories and not an objective point of view. I remember this one time when I forgot my bag in a park, we came back looking for it two hours later and it was just at it place, with nothing missing. First time I lost something in a public place and no one stole it.

nobody understands Icelandic its a wonder you have such a beautiful and well functioning society. then again who needs to speak really when you live in a country build on such majestic nature. - a dane who's kinda getting tiered of looking at the overcast windows xp background that is this nation
Freyja Nedenskov well I can’t speak or writhe Norwegian or Swedish either but I can understand it when spoken slowly and read it it’s the same with Icelandic but it’s not as common so I am a little out of practice
+goff0103 well, Denmark had no support from anyone whatsoever - no mountains to hide behind, no allies no nothing. So i'd argue that, defending a border with less than 3000 men is almost impossible.
I really appreciate that you pronounced the names in Danish - like Jylland, Sjælland, Fyn, Søren Kirkegaard and you were pretty good at it especially Fyn and Kirkegaard. Thumbs up from someone from Fyn :) The funny thing about these types of videos is that sometimes you learn something about your country that you didn't know. I didn't know other countries loved our christmas trees that much. Oh and by the way in Denmark we just call Hans Christian Andersen for H.C. Andersen. Yup, we're that lazy ;)
Would probably say the Netherlands is completely flat (except in some regions) where Denmark is more like a bumpy pancake, but yeah, we're the same haha
Denmark is so much like my country, the Netherlands! The 'hygge', the 'you are not better than others', the bikes, the landscape, the agriculture, the weird language, the sirens and even the joke that the sirens are warning you for a German attack. Denmark is just like The Netherlands, with a Scandinavian flavour.
I am Swede-Danish and I visit Denmark every summer. We rent a house in Blåvand (I dont know how to spell it in danish) and my family and i go to legoland and have fun in Denmark. Great country! Love from Sweden!
I'm from newcastle ( northeast England ) and we use Danish words such as "Hjem" (home) and "barn" (child). Even though we use "bairn" instead of the word "barn" it's like with the norwegian word for our, which is "vår" when the geordie ( person from newcastle ) word is "wor".
Denmark fascinates me so much! I tried to learn the language. I can understand the written language but spoken language... Oh God! That's pretty hard. I really enjoyed the video! Didn't know about the sirens though! 😅 Greetings from Spain!
@@pranavkondapalli9306 Who said that? :) The majority of Iranians are Persians and they speak Persian. Persian is the official language of Iran. And Iranian peoples were Persians, Sogdians, Medes, Bactrians, Parthians, Alans, Khwarezmians, Massagetae, Sakas, Sarmatians, Scythians, etc.
Lol your description of denmark closely resembles that of a noteworthy danish king, Christian IV ( He founded Kristiansand and rebuilt Oslo as Kristiania (which is now Oslo again because independence )). He was known for partying hard, then getting up early The next morning, working hard
Denmark isn't one of the last surviving Kingdoms of Europe. Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and (of course) the UK are also modern day European monarchies
Loved the video! As a Dane it was really fun to hear someone else's view on our flat little country. I do however think that it was a mistake to say that Denmark was a founding member of the Eu... In case anyone was wondering Denmark joined the EU in 1973 together with Great Britain and Ireland and the founding countries were Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
"the H is silent half the time, oh and don't get me started on Ææ Øø and Åå" meanwhile I as a Dane am sitting here laughing like a maniac and enjoying the thoughts of how much pain and suffering learning the language can be for foreigners 😂😂 Oh! By the way, the letter D is also silent half the time, just like H. May the Force be with you 😂😂😂
Love most of the video. Just a bit weird to highlight the christmas trees as a main export of Denmark. Traditionally we've been a major producer of pork and the food culture is heavily influenced by pork dishes. We're also a major exporter of medicine, as Novo Nordisk is the worlds leading insulin producing company. Of course, A.P. Møller - Mærsk was a danish guy who started Maersk, as we all know. Then, we have a large market share in high-end audio products from companies such as B&O, Brüel & Kjær, Oticon etc. So I promise we do more than grow fir trees and wheat, lol
Povl Besser Yeah, it is common knowledge that danish is a horrible language to learn. Like, hell, even with it being my first language I still find English infinitely easier that danish.
Imagine a Russian guy is talking to you, in Russian. That’s how I sounds when a person from Iceland talks to people from Denmark, we don’t understand a word they are saying
Really thinking about moving to Denmark, learning their language, love their culture, love their system and social democracy. Have lots of ideas when I get there
Tiger 73 you would be welcome, we can at first seem a bit distant, but if we invite oh home say yes otherwise it's insulting(getting invited into a home, means you approved)
Barron Goldsmith sure there are racists, every country has them, but all of us, no, we got problems with people that don't respect our culture, or think religion overrules the rules of our society, we love our country so disrespect it yes you won't get a good welcoming.

The danish word for newcastle is "Nyborg" ☺️
Doctor Death yeah. That’s not true!
