I don’t know if you’d consider it a subplot or just a very well done backstory of a character, but I loved Alexei’s story in Alibi in Ashes. How his former detective days helped out Nancy in the end, his passion when talking about being shunned by the community, the ending when they find what had been supposedly stolen. So good!
I definitely thought about including Alexei's story! I decided it connected too much to the main plot for this video, but I do think it is still a fun subplot!
The girl drama in Warnings at Waverly Academy is an honorable mention. Was it plot relevant? No. Was it real teenage drama and character insight? Absolutely
Such a fun video! I've been wracking my brain for some other subplots that I enjoyed as well... - I love the two mini dramas that can play out in Last Train, with Charlena stealing a book idea from Lori and getting Tino and Lori together after finding out about their breakup. - In Scarlet Hand, I enjoyed learning who "Big Bunny" is via accounts of other characters. Very funny. I'll try and think of some more! Subplots are so delightful.
Oh I think the love story in Shadow Ranch is my favourite, it was just so unexpected and beautiful. HER often does a redeeming/backstory story for the grumpy old men (Gray, Alexei, Gunnar, Dexter) but a lovestory for two actual characters is quite unusual and unexpected for HER. Although I do agree with your Number 1 pick, Shadow is just my favourite, but not the best.
Gosh Gunnar’s story STILL hits me hard. They really did such a great job with the subplot that it makes you perfectly understand why he’s so bitter and angry. It breaks my heart every time I encounter it. 😢
Gunnars was surprising to me, it hits hard. My absolute fave though is Charlie's. Second has to be Alexiei! His backstory is great and you engage with it a fair bit.
I think the sub plot of Jane's father going to Rome at the same time her bio mum is there is pretty interesting. Its an optional phone dialogue option.
Wow I never realized how much I liked subplots, thank you the realization! This is why I love your videos. I think my favorite is the plagiarism one from Warnings at Waverly Academy. Lovely video as always!
I was definitely going to, but then I decided that it was too important to the main plot to consider a true side plot. I definitely thought about it though!!
I still think of Joy and Miles as one of the worst subplots if not the worst. It's the only one that seems put there specifically to pad out a short game. It's totally crazy that Joy's dad built a sentient robot to amuse her when no such things exist. That makes it a cartoon plot. And the fact that Joy never even tried to solve her own father's riddles kills it further (if she didn't care, why should we?)
The Dexter subplot definitely is my favorite of these followed by Joy. A tiny subplot (I think it's a subplot) that still sticks with me is finding Henry in Crystal Skull crying at his parent's crypts and then Nancy having to help him discuss their deaths and help cope with it.
The subplot about Pa makes me mad every time that I play the game. Nancy should know better since she lost her mother. How would Nancy feel if people kept asking about her? Give me a break, Nancy!
yes the Daughter's of Nefertari was a very good subplot and I can't wait to see the subplots for Mystery of the Seven keys I wonder what they will be I can't wait to visit Prague with Nancy if and when we FELLOW DETECTIVES ever get our hands on the game that is the other funny subplot in Trail of the twister is Chicken's literally buying a farm what are they gonna do with it I mean they aren't HUMAN
Gunnar's story _breaks me._ Unfortunately, due to the age of these games and their incompatibility with modern laptops, I haven't played a few of these, so it's hard to know what to think of your official ranking. Personally, my top would be Gunnar's. I also find the complicated family lineage of the Thorntons in GTH fascinating. What it reveals about the family adds a lot of depth and tragedy as we unravel what really caused the fire that killed dear sweet Charlotte. I might also add the relationship drama of Captive Curse and Sea of Darkness on here. Even though I'm a Francy shipper, I hate seeing/hearing Nancy and Ned fighting and struggling with their relationship. That being said, I do like that we get this valuable glimpse into Nancy's personal life and how her detective lifestyle affects the people around her. It adds depth and complexity to relationships that were treated very simply and surface level in the books and early games, especially SEA, in which their initial struggles ultimately deepened their bond as they worked through the problem.

I loved this one. I loved the b-plot of Thornton Hall: learning about Savannah's orgin story and why she stopped paranormal investigations.
Ooh, that's a great one!
Mary and Tex’s romance is the absolute best romance in Nancy Drew ever. I wanted a little more of their love story in the game. 🥺
Such a fun video! I've been wracking my brain for some other subplots that I enjoyed as well...

Ooh yes!! Those two are excellent!
Ooh, perhaps a follow-up video about least developed or least explored subplots?
Ooh for sure!

It is just so heart-warming ❤️

Right?! So achingly beautiful!

Yeah, learning Alexei's history is fascinating!

Yesss Dexter’s story always ripped my heart out. So good!!
Absolutely heart wrenching!

Great rankings!
I’m surprised you didn’t include the side plot of Rachel and her twin in WAV.
I was definitely going to, but then I decided that it was too important to the main plot to consider a true side plot. I definitely thought about it though!!

Thought I was the only one who didn’t like it 😅

my fav subplot is joy ☺️ its interactive at every step & touch my ❤ wish joy was more involved
So much meaning to find in Joy's subplot!!

I hope there are some subplots in Mystery of the Seven Keys too!

Right?! So heartbreaking 😭
