I love nifty tools, unlikely to get any, other priorities. An Army Ranger I had in a survival course told us, a man (or woman) can live just about anywhere if they have three things, a good knife, a library of skills in their head, and the will to survive. First ones easy, knives are everywhere. Second one is equally easy, your holding in your hand. Number three? I really can’t help you. I’m getting older and wore down, life tends to do that. I’ve got two granddaughters, I’ll live for them…

    • @MilitantPrepping
      @MilitantPrepping ปีที่แล้ว +8

Agreed, just don’t rely on that library in your hand, as great of a resource as it is. Electronics fail, or get lost, or any number of things. If you’ve got a knife and a mind full of knowledge and the training to use it you can survive most places.

A soldier asked how long we had to keep probing for mines.. The answer was simple.. For the rest of our lives, cuz the second we quit, it might be over.
Then enlightened us that we could get our rest later, or when the mine went off.
We all looked at each other like.

The main problem with combination tools is that if you lose it, you lose all. That said, I can see this being part of a pilot's or even an astronaut's survival pack. I would probably wrap the individual segments with sports tape, for more grip and insulation from cold or even electric shock. But that's just me. As is, it would probably fit right in to a Star Trek movie.

No need to know the future in order to be a minimum prepared. It's logical to be able to rely on yourself with as little help from others as possible when it comes to survival. Continue to prep everyone in the best way you can with what you have.

3cr13 steel is commonly used in chef knives, most modern " averaged priced" chef knives that you might get at Walmart, Canadian tire, Costco, etc. are made of this steel, pretty sure it's chinas version of 440 stainless, it's not surprise that you could sharpen this shovel enough to chop small trees and such, but I expect this will wear down the edge fairly quickly

That's the only shovel tool I would trade for my old G.I. folder. from when I was in the Marines in the 80's. My G.I. folder has a pick as well, but it does not have most of the very useful stuff this CP tool has. One additional gadget I'd like to see on one of the segments is a section which could hold a fishing reel and some rings which fit into the point where one segment meets another so I'd have my cadillac fishing setup. I do carry a reel in my SHTF backpack.

Hey Nate, thanks for honoring my request and showcasing this! I see this really shining in a get home bag where you may have to settle for a one tool option due to size and weight considerations, and for something that can be an improvised weapon, but is more "grayman" than a machete, big knives, spear, etc. An oven bag or a few to boil water in and to make a solar still would be good for these. The soda bottle "test tube" blanks (before they are blown into bottles), might fit in there as capsules for fishing kits, medications, slingshot ammo, (bands could go in there), and other supplies.

As someone who has used shovels almost daily for 20 years and broken countless shovels ... this thing wouldn't hold up to actual digging....the second youd try to pry a rock from the ground one of those handles would break...
Also - "It can be used as a grappling hook but I don't recommend trying it but you can use it to escape and evade"
Bad advice... don't ever trust your life to anything unless you've tried the tool before... and being made out of aluminum..this thing wouldn't take actual long term abuse in a SHTF scenario.

      Agreed, old fashioned is best.
I like the good old speznaz shovel for light hatchet work. Easy to make a new handle, one solid piece of metal, has multiple uses..
I go with a settler tool, knife, saw, axe, spez shovel, and leatherman super tool as my backup 😂 ...if I'm going to be staying out there

jamie turnage - I dunno...maybe, but personally I always feel safer w/pair of 32 shot Tec 9's w/10 mags, AR w/18" barrel & 12 mags, plus for encounters of last kind, I'd also carry Dad's 7.62X25 Russian Tokarev pistol w/8 clips. Dad's BAR + Tokarev + 12 grenades used in WW2 taking bridge over Rhine w/over 2000 Germans cleared! Per Ike shortened war 6 mos+!

Should of made the attachment accept a saw blade like that of milwaukee so you drop a wood or metal saw and keep the blades in the handle

Need a recip blade adapter and extra blade storage, I carry Diablo carbide blades both for wood and metal and a custom handle in my SHTF kit. They outlast a lot of blades.

I have seen things like this on Amazon that offer different "modules", some have shovels, some have axe, some have fishing spears and knives in the handle, some have all these things, depends what you wanna pay, but I must point out I don't know that they have durability as they are " random products" from Amazon, and one thing Amazon doesn't have is someone like Nate actually testing these products to make sure they work and such, Amazon may be cheaper but I for one would if I could pay a little more for something the seller takes the time to prove is a good product, I order from Amazon don't get me wrong, and I keep my fingers crossed every time lol.
