I'm glad the old 4240 is still running " like butter". We have one that we use to haul wagons and run augers for us. It was one that grandpa bought new years ago. Everytime we do maintenance on it, dad or grandpa tell me stories about some " adventure" they had with it before I was even born. We restored it 4 years ago and it sits alongside a restored 4020 and 4620 in the machinery shed. I know that I'm not making sense when I say this, but I see the " nostalgic happiness" in grandpa and dad everytime they fire them up to use them. Those tractors seemed to have " personalities " all their own. That's why they actually have actual names like " Edgar", " Rocky", and " Bubba". Of course, Bubba is the 4620 because, what else would you call a 4620? I'm just suggesting that maybe you and your dad can restore the 4240 as a project someday . Its actually a lot of fun and it really brings back some great memories.
Full day's work is right. Long day, working non stop in the heat. Father and son working together. Can't say how much I appreciate your hard work. You just keep on keeping on. Not complaining. An inspiration to many.
You may wish to keep those batteries clean on the outside too? Part of servicing our trucks is to pressure spray them. Make sure water/soap does not get between the connector and battery post.
My 2 year old son loves to watch your videos. He has all of a sudden developed this obsession with cows. My parents raise beef cattle so he gets to interact in real life but loves to watch your cows. Thank you for showing your day to day life makes my husband and I be able to be on the farm as much as we can.
I always enjoy watching your videos. It’s great to see the hard working families that make it possible for us to enjoy the food we have. I lost a good friend last year in a tractor accident. He was jumping across the starter and had failed to make sure the tractor was not in gear. So every time I see someone starting a tractor from the ground, I automatically cringe. Please be careful. Keep up the great work!
Hi Eric I tried those bovalac dry cow bolus didn't see a huge difference really for the cost. Also if your ever stuck for a gasket making one from a ordinary cereal box works great with a little bit of instant gasket silicone either side 👍
My daughter's 3rd grade class went on a field trip to a local dairy farm. Now, guess what she wants to be? Yep, a dairy farmer. Last field trip to the Children's museum she wanted to be a paleontologist and research dinosaurs and before that a trip to Sea World and a marine biologist. But right now we're watching all things dairy related. I am learning a lot as we go as well! lol
I would keep the 4240 on the feed wagon and give up a little bit of fuel economy for the day after day reliability. Couldn’t ask for a more reliable tractor to do that job. Maybe get the power washer out and give it a bath 🛀
You guys really have to be a jack of all trades to work on all things around the farm. Nice also to get to work closely with your dad and have what seems to be a great working relationship.
Your batteries will last longer if you keep the tops clean. You can use a multimeter and check from the post to the top of the battery finding voltage. Over time this parasitic draw will coat the plates in the battery with sulfate which will slough off and fall to the bottom of the case. Once enough builds up it will short the plates inside the case killing that cell. Also get a roll of exhaust gasket material from the auto parts store because that compressor head gets screaming hot and will break the silicone down over time. They should have a sheet that has a metal stiffening sheet sandwiched between two layers of graphite like material. This will last the longest since it is made for high heat. Just make sure the surfaces are clean when you assemble so there is no room for air to escape and carve a path through the gasket. Love the videos and how your family take such great care of the herd.
Just a suggestion for you next time when you need a gasket like that for your air compressor. Grab an old tire tube and cut one out of it and make your own. Way better and lost twice along. Have a great rest of your day and keep up the great work
It seems so many areas of the country are having weather issues with too much heat and too little rain. Hope your farm got enough rain to make a difference. I always enjoy your videos no matter what jobs you’re doing on the farm. The variety of skills you need to do your type of farming is staggering. Keep up the good work!
We could use some more rain here in NY as well. A lot of shriveled up corn. Love watching the cows stick their head in the trough to get a facefull of feed haha
The 4240 JD sounds good, two new batteries and it's good to go. Looks like you took care of the gasket leak pretty easily on that compressor. We used gasket material for forming our own gaskets, back in the 70's. Liked the video, thanks for sharing, have a great week.
Hi Eric and dad awesome video you’re dairy farm you and your dad really take care of cows 🐄 making sure they’re comfortable making sure fans are working lots hard work thank you both and as always you and your families all be safe and lots of blessings are coming your way 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great video Eric! As you said - great service to get the batteries. Nice to know their are other operations that run as smoothly and honorably as you and your Father run yours.
Great vlog Eric. Yous are good farmers pal. Love the dairy farms. Use to be a milk boy when a was young. Delivering milk to the doorstep. Best times of ma life was working in the factory after delivery.
With the amount of dirt and moisture (dust catcher) due to rain on the unprotected batteries - they should be covered - the dirty batteries are now in a state of Parasitic Draw, thus ongoing depletion of the battery voltage when the ignition is shut off. In addition, use the special battery wire brush to clean (shine) the inside and outside of the battery cables.
Thanks for everything yall do to provide milk and butter for us would like to see longer videos other than 16 or 14 minutes long please and God Bless you and your family
Considering the many hours it takes an already busy Eric to edit the14-16 min. videos, it might be untenable to demand for even longer ones, unless he gets someone else to edit for him.
If it were me I’d restore the whole tractor but that is expensive but at same time worth it because I love all my iron horse tractors and it’s true farming history what these tractors did for the farmer back then and still are to this date
I know your only drying off a couple of cows at a time so this might just be awkward. What we do is separate the cows for drying off and just feed them hay for 3 or 4 days to help them drop in milk. Keep up the great videos!
Overall, I most enjoy 10Gen and Dad getting along and working side by side. Didn't enjoy this fine relationship in my my family, so it seems pretty idyllic; sure enjoy that aspect of Eric & his Dad's easy comfort working to the family's benefit. How it should be.
Here's an old tip. To look for leaks in anything, get a spray bottle, and fill it with dishwashing liquid soap and water. You can spray that solution on anything in order to find any leak(s).
I must agree on with you on starting any machinery from the ground . So easy to get run over I cringe every time I see it Love to see your videos & you & your dad working together. From🇨🇦
I've always have wondered why you don't start at the bottom and go upwards when you're loosening the silage? I would think you could see it better the whole way.
Hey Eric You've probably already explained this but what is the difference between what you feed the dry cows and the milking cattle? Keep up the good work
I don’t think this explains it very well but basically a dry cow is bred and she’s several months from calving. So dry cow is one that is pregnant. How long you milk a cow after she is impregnated depends on operations. Hopefully that makes sense sir
Forgive my lack of knowledge but why don't you just mix mass amounts of feed at a time? I feel like that would save a lot of time having the mixed food in the silo's instead of having to mix what is needed every day, multiple times a day. Does it spoil quicker when mixed?
Like all your videos try spraying cold water on the cows when there waiting to milk that might cool them off some use the hose you rinse off the floor it's a thought.
Is your 7130 the 6 cylinder or the 4 cylinder model? What is the principle that the dry off bolus works on? Why don't you use the New Holland skid for all your manure work and save the Kubota for feed work and reduce the chance of manure diseases being transmitted to the feed?
It looks like the battery boxes would be better if they were sealed up better ! All the dust settling on top of battery mite cause a short and drain them ! Just a thought ! I think the heat an humidity is getting to all the animals ! THANK You for your videos !!! I'm Praying for all Farmers ! Biden's economy is hurting everyone !!! But Farmer's an Trucker's it is very Bad , We don't eat without them !!! GOD BLESS !!!
Don't complain about having a dairy farm to work on in the heat. Least you are not outside in a tent with no food, water, or money. Thanks for all your hard word and dairy products.
Not a cow person at all but love watching your videos. Have a question. Thought I read somewhere that there is a hierarchy in a cow herd, is that true? If so, does moving a cow from one group to another create an adjustment period? I find your videos very informative and thank you for keeping us supplied with essential nutrition.
@eric_diaryman👈on telegram hi Eric. Long time watcher. Really enjoy your channel. You & your father are fine people as I'm sure the rest of the family is as well. Continue with your content choices. Ya batteries only good for 5ish years so 7 really pushing it lucky ka boom. Maybe just retire it until prices come back down as we all love the old beast as i grew up with 4040 duel wheel. Have you tested the air flow lately in milking shed and temp test just an idea after watching tom build his one. I've tried to send you guys and some other channels some rains in Australia over east have had way too much we can spare some.Great video little bit of everything.

You do a great job representing the dairy industry and giving a glimpse of day to day activities on a dairy farm
Full day's work is right. Long day, working non stop in the heat. Father and son working together. Can't say how much I appreciate your hard work. You just keep on keeping on. Not complaining. An inspiration to many.

Never stop being a TH-camr can't get enough of your videos
Thank you and your family for all your hard work. Dairy farming is difficult even when everything works.
Appreciate the video Eric! Sounds as if you are tired or not feeling well. Prayers.
He does not follow the reasons of prayer, he's just focused on self-gain, even if it means harming the animals that are making him where he's at👎
Great video Eric! I look forward to each video you share with us, you run a very good operation!
Love seeing the tractor fixed! Great as always! Thanks for making this video Eric!
Your dad looked so happy when the tractor turned on.
I love the father and son farm uniform at 5:37 👍🏼
Shorts and knee boots, making a dairymen’s fashion statement on those very warm summer mornings. Great video.
I know your farm and routine so well now that I can listen to a new video and pretty much know what's going on! GREAT as usual.
Freezing cold here in southern Aust so you get nothing but hot weather! Hope it breaks soon, great video as always Eric.

Hey Erik to save fuel on that 4240 is to put ether A turbo on it or B do a 466 swap that come a out of a tractor/combine that had a turbo from factory
If it were me I’d restore the whole tractor but that is expensive but at same time worth it because I love all my iron horse tractors and it’s true farming history what these tractors did for the farmer back then and still are to this date

Every time you post it’s always a good day😉
Don’t get rid of the 4240 that is a very good reliable tractor just needs some love
Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming please!
Great video, that kubota really has got it work cut out for it! Love the channel and what you do!
You should invest in a small battery powered pressure washer that connects to the end of the hose to clean the robots
Eric, life on a dairy farm doesn't allow you to call in and tell the boss you don't feel like working, I admire your work ethic!
Love watching your vlogs. Always wanted to try working on a farm for a day
LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS ERIC HAVE BLESSED DAY
Hey Eric

Thanks 😊

Holes in the T-Shirts!!! Seven years is great. I see the ground strap often gets a bad connection and that shortens battery life. Bob in Nevada
Like all your videos try spraying cold water on the cows when there waiting to milk that might cool them off some use the hose you rinse off the floor it's a thought.
@10:25 that smile! 😃
hello friend I love your videos, hard work! greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷🇺🇸❤
Hope you get the rain that you need. great video, thanks till next time.
Nice Dad smile when tractor started!
A+ VIDEO NEEDS TO BE 12 MIN. LONGER, LUV U FARM!!
Not sure how much fuel you could save, but it is nice to be able to keep one tractor on the mixer.
Wow size of that pill is amazing.but you have happy well cared for looking cows .have a great day all of you

Eric over here buffing up 💪🏻
When you are mixing feed how fast are you running the motor on the tractor. Sounds like it is at an idle
I keep forgetting to ask; do you prefer vertical silos or bunker silos? Love the channel, keep up the great videos
I can tell by dad’s grin he’s proud of that ol green tractor! ; )-
Eric, is the spray you put on top of the silage working then to keep it fresh? Wait I think you answered that in the video, yes!
Love your channel. Keep up the great work. Got some questions.
1. Have you ever been kicked by a cow?
2. Do you have blooper reel?
Bet those cows are loving those big fans right now. Heres hoping you guys get some good rain.
Don't complain about having a dairy farm to work on in the heat. Least you are not outside in a tent with no food, water, or money. Thanks for all your hard word and dairy products.
I might have missed it, but I hope the new well is helping out with water supply.
Yes it helps a lot
@@10thgenerationdairyman Thanks for the reply. God is definitely good.

All herd animals will form a hierarchy. Bossy cows are definitely a thing. 🐄
Cheers for the video, Eric!
always a pleasure to watch your videos :)
The way you said Thanks for watching sounded like you were down and needed a cold milk or pop to drink, Stay in there the Lord will keep you cool!
Hope ur family all doing well. How r the little ones doing?
Awesome Video and Much Love as Always 🐄 Man!!!
What % reduction in milk does the heat cause daily on milk production?
How many inches per day are you feeding off the corn silage pile?
Great to see another video . . . hope you get rain soon
Good work keeping the cow’s comfy
which telehandler are you going to buy now I'm curious my preference is jbc it's a nicer view than the manito
If you do take the 4240 off the mixer what will you use it for ?🚜
Keep it around as a spare for anything we need done.
@@10thgenerationdairyman ok thanks
Good stuff...

Must be nice to get rain been two months and counting since our actual last rainfall
