Dude the fact that your pack can stay in your game after you choose a different related wolf is so cool!! Tbh I think that’s going to be one of my favorite mechanics
@@QuicksilverStudios0w0614lol maybe you could kick out more annoying packs. I'm not going to call out any pack in particular *cough* lunar canyon *cough* but hypothetically speaking IF there was a pack that you couldn't stand and kept causing problems maybe you could kick them out after awhile.

Lol imagine killing off one leader, your pup dispersing, and immediately playing as that pup to to court that pack's remaining leader- Gods this is gonna be so much fun when the Saga comes out
Actually, it might not be THAT complicated. The way I see it, it'll be the exact same as normal story mode, but when the mom gives birth, there will be an assortment of adult wolves to help from the get-go.
You'll probably have to kill off the mate like you do now, once you kill one of the pack leaders, the pack breaks apart and the surviving breeding adult becomes a dispersal. It's a good idea to name them if you encounter them so you know who's who.
This gives me nostalgic memories of when I used to watch people play Shelter 2 and the lynx cubs disperse after they grew up into adults… man I missed playing that game.
I already feel bad in my current save because my Mate was a Lamar Canyon Pack Wolf but we also ended up feuding a bunch with that pack up to killing some of them and them killing a pup of ours. I know it technically doesnt matter but it still feels weird
@@lagggoat7170 I have a mate from Coyote Creek pack in Hellroaring Creek, and I name every member that I discover. I made a rule that I'll avoid killing them and won't initiate too many fights. It's kind of fun to think that when you meet some of the wolves there, they're your mate's siblings or parent.
Imagine getting that ‘invading pack’ notification from the pack your son (who you just put so much effort into raising and keeping alive) just took over 😂
Woah!! You’ve gone above and beyond with this!! The idea of maintaining continuity of a yearling’s parent’s save adds so much more complexity to the game, I assumed you’d just go with the easier “Play as pup after it disperses in a completely new universe” This is so exciting and I can’t wait to use this feature in the future!
The little tidbit that we could become pack leaders of an already existing pack is fascinating, and would be quite fun to play out. Though I think it would be on the rarer side because you would have to wait for the death of one of the pack leaders then swoop in and court the existing one, or court one of the pack members and take over before the previous leader has had a chance to find mate.
One thing I think would be very interesting would be to have the player move to a choice of dispersal pups' save upon the death of a successful iron or aged-out wolf.
oh i love this! the game is about to feel like one big soap opera haha. i love the mention of merging packs after becoming mates with a leader because i was hoping that would become a thing! imagine all the step children you'd have 😂
THIS IS SO COOL, I'm so excited!!! I'd love to have a similar option when your wolf dies; the option to end the game or select a pup old enough to disperse (if applicable) and stay on the same world (rival packs etc)
I'd like that too, or even better, have a wolf that is old enough to inherit the pack. Maybe go to the mate or a grown pup to continue playing the same pack
I can feel it getting closer!! When the saga comes out, I plan to do a full playthrough and draw a comic showing my wolf's life and I'm just sooo excited for this now!
Adding to this: please add a line of what pack the wolf is originated from on Departed Wolves for ALL. All those numbers for those who I never named (cause I am bad with names, and fine with numbers) are really hard to remember
Yeah adding origin packs to the departed wolves tab would be so nice. I've started naming every wolf I encounter to note which pack they're from, which gets a bit tedious
I swear wolf quest just keeps getting better when I thought it couldn’t get better. The wolf quest team is absolutely incredible thanks for giving us such a wonderful game.
My heart becomes happy each time I hear " later this year"! Amazing game, I've been a fan since my childhood, seeing how far we are now, it just makes me so happy!
The fact that you can play as your babies while also knowing who your natal pack was is so cool! This makes me wonder if you decide to play as a pup that dispersed with their siblings, will they be your travel companion until you find a mate?
It'd be neat to first choose what age you wanna start. Cuz I think it'd be neat to first start playing as a yearling and work your way up. Plus its really great insight into learning what young wolves go through at yearling age. Not heavily studied enough tbh
I can only imagine the amount of coffee/tea that went into designing the whole system, especially in regards to making the pups playable. Can't wait to play this! :D
I know this comment most likely won’t be seen by anyone important, but I have been playing and following Wolfquest development for a long time and I remember a moment when the game was nearly ‘canceled’ because of just general struggles for funding.. I am so happy to be seeing the saga finally coming into reality when for the longest time, it was merely an idea !
I love the way the devs had incorporated everyone's ideas and thoughts about how the game should be played. We understand it gets dicey and complicated, but we are here for the ride! One part of the winter and beyond with yearlings I thought of was 'chasing off dispersals in your territory'. When you're a dispersal looking for a mate in another's territory, they chase you out. When I just have puppies and no yearlings in the game now, I don't do this. But having a part where chasing dispersals out when you have yearlings would be cool and more realistic! Love all the work being put into this game
This is awesome! I'm so grateful ya'll are willing to put this much detail in just for our stories. Question: Will pups disperse in groups like they do in the game now? If so, what happens if you play a pup that disperses with siblings? Will you stay with them until finding a mate or go off on your own? I think it would be cool if you could start packs with your siblings and mate and maybe their siblings. Obviously, they probably wouldn't stick around in the pack long, but it does seem like there are a lot of Yellowstone packs that start as a collection of relatives. Another thing, if your wolf dies, it'd be interesting if you could select a pup and potentially save your pack by finding a new mate to stabilize the pack with a new breeding pair.

I have a complicated journey with Anniversary Edition: it eventually stopped working well on my old macbook at the end of 2020. I had some personal problems in my life at the beginning of 2021 but by July of that year, i was able to build myself a gaming pc and play the game properly in all its beauty and glory...and then two months later, i lost my dog. For over two years i've still enjoyed this game (and waited desperately for the saga) but a month ago I finally got a new puppy. And now this incredible update will be out the same year. i feel so blessed
Love the way ya'll are planning to handle dispersal and the 'multiverse'! It's going to be loads of fun playing the game and seeing how things unfold throughout the wolf years!
The excitement I think we all share when hearing the words "and it's definitely coming out later this year" is so amazing. I'm so glad I found this game and it's amazing community (and developers of course)!!!
I just can't wait for the saga anymore! I am going to absolutely book it to my computer once I hear the saga is out. i feel like this will open up so many storytelling opportunities!
you know, it’s funny that on every wolf quest video there’s likely to be one or two comments saying ‘ EVERYONE WAKE UP WOLFQUEST POSTED ‘ and the majority of the time it’s around the first 5 top comments. Never ending chain 😂😂
This is so exciting! The game is straight on skyrocketing! ❤ I have a question, though. Say one of your pups disperse and you choose to play as it, then another of the pups disperse from your ‘natal pack’, would the wolf I’m playing as now be able to meet it or court its sibling..? Also at 5:23 it says ‘pup’ for 1 year old and yearling for a 2 year old wolf. I assume it’s just a glitch? Sorry, I pay too much attention to details ^^’ XD Also, say you became leader of a pack as a dispersing wolf. Would you now be able to raid your natal/old pack’s den or see their pups since you know it?
It's neat to see how all this is going to work, and the dev team's thought process behind deciding which ideas to implement or leave out. The mechanics for pups dispersing seem great, and I'm continuing to eagerly look forward to the Saga :)
So beyond excited to get my hands on the Saga, and I know that one of my fav TH-camrs is as well! Cannot wait to see her new playthrough series after this is all released!!
I love this! As a person who loves RP and story telling I'd love to play as my main wolf until a pup disperses and then start a save as that dispersed pup rather than doing it from the family tree ^^
Just when I think the game can't get any better, a new video comes out and hits me like a truck with above and beyond upcoming features that I didn't even think about. This might just be the greatest game of all time, no joke. The amount of effort put into this game and the consideration that you have for us players is just...I haven't seen anything like it in any other games, it's really impressive.
I only get more and more excited for the saga with each devblog upload. While playing the AE, there's a few things that'd be cool to see, or get fixed, in the impending update! (it's kind of a long list, just a warning) - Some sort of stretching action when you wake up after sleeping. I think it would be cute - The option to add scars separately from coats. Scars only being apart of certain coats feels really limiting honestly.. Even if it had to be a brand new DLC, for a permanent injuries customization set, I'd definitely pay [for] it. (Although I suppose adding another paywall to that sort of thing might not be appreciated by every player) - This is gonna be something nitpicky, but having dedicated sfx for certain emotes such as rolling would be a nice touch (sounds of contact with the ground). I also miss the little happy/excited whine your wolf would make whenever you play bow from the classic edition - Speaking of emotes, getting some new ones would be awesome. Not sure what kind, but having more to pick from surely can't hurt. Also allowing us to have more Favorites (to give a hotkey) - Having an in-game clock (and maybe also an environment temperature). Should probably be a toggleable thing, like the FPS counter, which is pretty small and out of the way - Severe thunderstorms? When a storm gets too bad, the game could tell you "It's too risky to be outside! Go back to your den for safety" or something. Extra challenge could be that the storm washes away most of _every_ pack's territory hexes/scent posts, not just your own! - The action of picking up and putting things down takes a while, I wish it was quicker - More blood/gore! Nothing too crazy, just some blood during certain actions/things, like eating from a carcass (blood on the muzzle for a couple hours or so), and while fighting enemies (retaining bloody wounds, depending on severity. Actively getting wounds that will become scars could be cool, like getting clawed by a competitor during a carcass fight! It would be toggleable in the Modify section though, should you want to remove it) - Speaking of fighting/injuries, a few more types of injuries would be interesting. Like maybe a cut/gash as a minor injury, or even a torn nail while climbing rocky surfaces? - Using the Targeting while circling a competitor to intimidate them (away from a carcass) sometimes doesn't work that great, and even sometimes steers me right towards their attack instead..Seeing that modified would be appreciated - Floating scents aren't super consistent, particularly the ones for a nearby den. I'll get the prompt for one underneath the compass, but won't be able to find it using the Scent View? - Getting a Graphics setting like Bloom would be sooo awesome
as always, biggest hats off to you guys for always thinking of options for players! i'm SO excited for the stories that can be made with keeping continuity as you switch to playing as a pup! my only concern is the "my wolves" wheel feels like it might end up getting cluttered haha, but just a small nitpick. i'm looking forward to this update so much! :D
I had been playing WolfQuest for about four years when anniversary edition was announced and after all of this time and development I have never ever been so excited for any game update in the history of my life
I really love what you guys are doing! Not only is the game educational, it’s realistic without compromising on fun gameplay. Plus, the family tree and overall pack dynamics are amazing and provide great opportunities for storytelling.
This. Is. Gonna. Be. So. Cool. I’ve never seen a game with this much depth, a realistic yet mythical feel, such amazing graphics - UGH. I’m pretty new to WolfQuest (been around since about 3 came out) and I CANNOT be more excited. This will become, (and already is) a phenomenal game, and as soon as I get a new pc, IM PLAYING. All of the hard work and dedication has really paid off, keep going!
This is the best way I think this issue could have been handled. I would think about it sometimes and get confused myself on how this would work haha. This is so cool!
This has got me super exited!! I love the way you did it so that so you can play as a pup with your natal pack being an npc pack, couldn’t have done it better myself!
I can't even express how excited I am for this! Ever since you guys first posted talking about the Saga I was thrilled, and to see how far it's come is amazing! Thank you guys so much for your hard work and dedication to this game and education! I can't wait to play this. :)
As much as I love wolves and love to learn about them I never knew that wolves could just come back home and join their birth pack again and leave again, the more you know.
THIS IS AWESOME!!! I genuinely cant wait for the saga and im sure nobody else can either, the hours and effort yall have put into this amazing game is just astonishing. im so impressed. i started playing this game when it came out and its evolved so much-- for the better, absolutely! when i started playing this game, like many others im sure, we were all hoping and wishing, literally DREAMING about the idea of your pups being able to grow up and hunt with you, etc.. i literally asked myself out loud that i wonder how the playable pups will work with them dispersing, RIGHT before you explained it. im so so SO glad you all put so much effort into this game, its one of my favorite games on steam. keep it up!
All of this is so cool!! I was just wondering how pups dispersing would work! And also maybe for that 'less aggressive' part between related packs- Maybe your wolf's parent pack just doesn't do den raids? Like they can still steal territory or attack you if you trespass, they just won't go after your pups!
@WolfQuest, I believe I have a solution for having to overwrite a dispersals save. Hear me out… If you were to go to the family tree to make a pup a playable wolf, then you could only be given the choice, (“create new game with __ and play now” in that world) that you would be given if this pup had decided to leave on its own later in the years.. except it avoids that ahead of time with this particular wolf. Basically, because as that forced playable pup you can now only choose to start a new game from that map you were being raised on at the time of dispersing and in that world still, such as if the pup dispersed while you were the parent player wolf. That way if you go back to the parents game it automatically has that pup as dispersed and around the homesite walking off but hanging around the territory until parting ways. But ultimately with no possibility of ever returning to the basement. (Might be a bummer for some players, but realistic I believe) I hope that this was understandable! And I hope it’s a possibility. Nonetheless, the additions to this game are AMAZING and all the kid-me could hope for.
I've had a save waiting for the saga for nearly a year now, it's so good to know I won't have much longer to wait to see what will happen to my favorite little pack. 💕 Everything about the saga so far is so exciting and it's wonderful to see how far this game has come. If I could go back and tell myself when I was like 13 what this game would be now, I would probably have cried from excitement. 😂
This is looking amazing! I was really hoping there would be a way to continue as a dispersal with the continuity of the parents' game and I'm excited to hear that will be an option!
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!! Wolf multiverse! It's all I ever dreamed of! I actually had been working on a spreadsheet at one point that would "track" dispersal pups after they left home and what happened to them. And then if I made a savefile for that wolf I would adhere to that spreadsheet and pretend it was all the same universe. This is pretty darn close. The time lines will diverge eventually, but I can still pretend they're more or less the same! I'm so excited for this feature! Fantastic attention to detail as alway. Balancing realizom, with gameplay, with player wants/needs. Not an easy task at all!
Really glad this covered what happens to your dispersed pups and how you start games with them, that was one of my biggest questions with the saga. Super excited to continue my family legacy in the same world!
This dispersing system and the way you can continue as your pup in the same situation as when they left is really cool! I feel like it could be a challenge to claim a territory of your own but I'm not complaining, the saga just gets more and more interesting and I can't wait until it comes out!
This is straight up amazing, the dedication you have to your audience and fanbase is so passionate and I appreciate your effort with my whole heart. Played WQ since it's early days, and with how you all are working so hard to update this amazing game, I don't see myself losing interest any time soon. I watched the progress videos of WQAE since the first one, and I have eagerly been clicking each update since. Keep up the work! We love this game so much.

That's an interesting question XD tho courting your sibling would be.. quite awkward lol 🤣🤣🫣
@@PsychoticHarleyy I know right!!
This is freaking amazing! You guys are seriously talented people! Can’t wait to see more on this game! ❤
It's neat to see how all this is going to work, and the dev team's thought process behind deciding which ideas to implement or leave out. The mechanics for pups dispersing seem great, and I'm continuing to eagerly look forward to the Saga :)
Wow… now this is intricate detail
So beyond excited to get my hands on the Saga, and I know that one of my fav TH-camrs is as well!
Cannot wait to see her new playthrough series after this is all released!!
“The MULTIVERSE”
I was literally just thinking about dispersing pups the other day. This is the coolest thing! Great work!
I love this! As a person who loves RP and story telling I'd love to play as my main wolf until a pup disperses and then start a save as that dispersed pup rather than doing it from the family tree ^^
Everything i wanted to hear in a devblog is here. Aka, the best devblog ever
Hell yeah wolfquest posted!! I'm glad you sorted out this confusion in the community
I only get more and more excited for the saga with each devblog upload. While playing the AE, there's a few things that'd be cool to see, or get fixed, in the impending update!
(it's kind of a long list, just a warning)
- Some sort of stretching action when you wake up after sleeping. I think it would be cute
- The option to add scars separately from coats. Scars only being apart of certain coats feels really limiting honestly.. Even if it had to be a brand new DLC, for a permanent injuries customization set, I'd definitely pay [for] it. (Although I suppose adding another paywall to that sort of thing might not be appreciated by every player)
- This is gonna be something nitpicky, but having dedicated sfx for certain emotes such as rolling would be a nice touch (sounds of contact with the ground). I also miss the little happy/excited whine your wolf would make whenever you play bow from the classic edition
- Speaking of emotes, getting some new ones would be awesome. Not sure what kind, but having more to pick from surely can't hurt. Also allowing us to have more Favorites (to give a hotkey)
- Having an in-game clock (and maybe also an environment temperature). Should probably be a toggleable thing, like the FPS counter, which is pretty small and out of the way
- Severe thunderstorms? When a storm gets too bad, the game could tell you "It's too risky to be outside! Go back to your den for safety" or something. Extra challenge could be that the storm washes away most of _every_ pack's territory hexes/scent posts, not just your own!
- The action of picking up and putting things down takes a while, I wish it was quicker
- More blood/gore! It would be toggleable in the Modify section though, should you want to remove it)
- Speaking of fighting/injuries, a few more types of injuries would be interesting. Like maybe a cut/gash as a minor injury, or even a torn nail while climbing rocky surfaces?
- Using the Targeting while circling a competitor to intimidate them (away from a carcass) sometimes doesn't work that great, and even sometimes steers me right towards their attack instead..Seeing that modified would be appreciated
- Floating scents aren't super consistent, particularly the ones for a nearby den. I'll get the prompt for one underneath the compass, but won't be able to find it using the Scent View?
- Getting a Graphics setting like Bloom would be sooo awesome
All of these ideas are absolutely awesome! Though my guess would be if they do, do some of these it might be after the saga but idk
wolf quest videos bring me so much comfort
as always, biggest hats off to you guys for always thinking of options for players! i'm SO excited for the stories that can be made with keeping continuity as you switch to playing as a pup!
my only concern is the "my wolves" wheel feels like it might end up getting cluttered haha, but just a small nitpick. i'm looking forward to this update so much! :D
DROP EVERYTHING AND WOLFQUEST!! All of this is SO COOL, I can’t wait!!
I'm so excited! I grew up with Wolfquest and seeing it come this far and the fanbase grow has been amazing! Thank you!!
Really impressed with how well you guys worked out this super complex dilemma, can't wait for the saga!
IM GONNA CRY I NEEED THE SAGA TO COME OUT ALREADY AAAAAAA
I love how much thought you guys are putting into the update I'm so excited!
I LOVE WHEN WOLFQUEST POSTS!! THIS IS SO EXCITING! ❤
This is amazing. I'm so excited to see it come together. Can't wait to play it!
WolfQuest into the Sagaverse!!!!
WOLFQUEST POSTING? HECK YEAH!
thank you wolfquest its always a good day when there's a new post!!
We are so excited for this!!! ❤ Wolfquest is always a perfect balance of educational and fun!
Wow, thank you so much!
Like they can still steal territory or attack you if you trespass, they just won't go after your pups!
i love how the pup sagas will work!!! this is perfect imo, keep up the great work ^_^
I love the more we find out about wolves the more their social dynamics seem familiar. Never did I imagine that they'd have basement dweller wolves XD
Been Waiting for this!!
@WolfQuest, I believe I have a solution for having to overwrite a dispersals save.
Hear me out…
If you were to go to the family tree to make a pup a playable wolf, then you could only be given the choice, (“create new game with __ and play now” in that world) that you would be given if this pup had decided to leave on its own later in the years.. except it avoids that ahead of time with this particular wolf.
(Might be a bummer for some players, but realistic I believe)
I hope that this was understandable!
Super excited to continue my family legacy in the same world!
seriously though the love and care and consideration put into this game is incredible, I am so excited to see the saga come out later this year
This dispersing system and the way you can continue as your pup in the same situation as when they left is really cool!
