    Great video, I had no idea that type of Lawn-Boy existed. Another Lawn-Boy fan here. Bought mine new somewhere between 1986-1988, model 7351, aluminum deck, pretty much basic old school as far as engine, controls, push style mower and need to mix the fuel. Replaced the worn out bushing wheels with ball bearing types a few years ago. Also replaced the plastic primer fitting on the bottom of the carb, which cracked from age, the pull cord that broke, and the ignition which went out. It has been an absolute champion, in use every week since new. Pump the primer 3 times, pull three times, and it's running. Great mowers.

    That is an awesome mower, last of the true Lawn-Boys. The handle and controls kind of remind me of my Honda HR214 SMA, another top quality mower with a blade clutch. My current favorite 21” mower is probably my Toro SR4 Super Recycler with the blade brake clutch option. I like the Personal Pace drive on it, no handles to let go of at the end of every row plus you don’t have to shut off the engine if you have to move something or dump the bag. Anything with an aluminum deck is pretty sweet!

    My siblings and I gave one of these to our dad for Christmas. He ended up having problems with the oil mixture system that no one could fix. Upon further research he found out that the problem was very common. I'm glad to see that has not happened to you. The concept was fantastic but the execution seemed to be somewhat haphazard.

    Our family was a LawnBoy dealer starting in the early 50s. There were 2 versions of the M series engine, one being oil injection and the other oil mix. The injection series failed prematurely and were discontinued. Then the US had a drought, OMC couldn't sell any outboards and needed money. OMC sold off Ski-Doo and Lawn Boy. Toro bought LB but since the M series engine was actually an OMC product, they did not get the rights to that engine. Business was OK for a few years, Toro selling 4 stroke mowers, and LB selling 2 cycle mowers. The EPA finally killed off the 2 cycle mowers and Toro was left with the same mowers, just one painted red and the other green. The Lawn Boy dealers did not get any more mowers but due to a contract, Home Depot continued to get them. They were just mix and matched left over parts from other machines and were not the same that were sold to the dealers

    In my opinion the best mower for me is the 21in honda commercial mower. It's got alot of power. Bumpers on the deck. Variable speed transmission. No belts to change. Very simple oil changes. Built very heavy like a tank. Made to last a lifetime. Lawnboy I will agree though was one of the last final good mowers.

    I have a 10401. 19" aluminum push deck, 5hp F engine. It is the peak of the peak. The black top silver series engines were the beginning of the end. This still has the old F engine. I really like the M series, but more for a collectible. The lack of parts availibility would have to make it a Sunday driver. Plus for me the joy of the lawnboy is how well grass discharges from the staggered deck chute, so I really don't any use for an M.

    • @hondayamahafan
      @hondayamahafan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the F engines. I havent had any issues with my M series. Its wonderful. I bagged the yard when the grass got too tall. I think the safety switch is disabled on mine, but it was fantastic to just let go of the bail bar, dump the bag (with the engine running), put it back on and continue. The duraforce engines are very powerful but also the most temperamental in my experience. M and F always start and run.

  • @rabbitfootedkitty1339
    @rabbitfootedkitty1339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The clear fuel and oil tank window and the cables going through the ALUMINUM handlebars so cleanly is legendary, you don't even get that with a Honda HRX or a Toro Super Recycler! I can't even believe that it is oil injected. People who hate mixing oil into gas for some reason would have no excuses for this engine. Do you have the bag for it? If not, it's not even a problem because you have the freaking mulch plug, ultra win. I prefer pre-mix because I don't trust oil injection, and it could use a side-discharge, but I do agree, that is the world's best push mower! ALUMINUM HANDLEBARS! If the a company with the name of Outboard Marine Corporation made the engine, I wouldn't be surprised if the engine is as indestructible as a 2 stroke outboard motor. I wish you would have showed underneath of the deck, but great video! That is a dream mower for me. Whoever was selling that for only $200 must be insane.

    • @hondayamahafan
      @hondayamahafan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, legendary mower. The best I've ever had! And I do have the bag for it. Ultra win for sure. I love every part of this mower. I would like a side discharge though. OMC made Evinrude and Johnson outboards for many years. These engines are rock solid. I didn't even think of showing the underside. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I have been comparing old mowers i have a Toro commercial 2 cycle , a Snapper Hivac ,and a Lawnboy mag deck. So far the Toro wins hands down for nicest cut ,the Snapper sucks up everything like no other the Lawnboy cuts well and bags ok . If I were to only have one choice it would be the old Toro, to be fair i just today bought a non running Lawnboy 2 cycle bbc when I get it running right ,I will be able to tell better . I have a 1991 aluminum deck Toro Recycler with the Suzuki 2-cycle you mentioned. Best cut I have ever seen. It blows my Honda HRX 217 away in terms of finished cut quality. I am also interested in 1990's aluminum deck Honda 215's and Lawn Boy 2-cycles. The only currently produced mower that may equal the quality of those 90's mower would be the Toro commercial 21's at $1,800-$2,200+ depending on motor and blade clutch option.

    • @campbellpaul
      @campbellpaul ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The '89-'91 Toro 26622 (Vacu Power) is another honorable mention that few people know about today. There's also the "Landscaper" version of that mower with the Suzuki 2-stroke engine that none of them can beat, as far as bagging leaves goes (I also own an '86 I/C Snapper Hi-Vac, so it's really hard for me to call, but it has trouble with damp leaves, which the Toro doesn't). With these mowers, it may come down to the blade you choose. I do agree with Eric about Toro 2-stroke cut quality, for sure!

    I love this mower. Been mowing with one for twenty years plus. This just does not miss a lick. I run mine with 16 to 1 To 24 to 1 oil mix by premixing oil in some of the gas. I do not care that it smokes at all. The mower must of been designed for really tall people who thought of everything at building a mower PERIOD. The design is second to none. This was one expensive machine to purchase back in the day as the price was 800 to 1400 dollar. One could purchase a riding mower for the price of this machine. The top of the line was electric start. I believe these gems were made for three years ??? Please correct me if I am wrong. The machine is super clean design, very maneuverable and built like a tank without the weight of one. The downside is that parts are no longer available, which sucks. I see you have the CHINAMAN FLOWERING TREE in your yard. Get rid of invasive species.
    Peace to you Sir and have a Happy Easter too. vf

    I've got a 35 year old Lawn Boy that I wouldn't trade for any new 4 stroke mower! Two stroke power may be a little bit harder to start after a long sit, but with twice the power pulses of a 4 stroke, It'll cut tall, wet, heavy grass all day without bogging down. I run a 30:1 ratio with synthetic 2 stroke oil, and an additive to counter the corrosive effects of the methanol gas we get today. A little heavy on the oil I know, but I'd rather have a little smoke than a failed engine bearing.
