They didn't smile in the old portraits because the photo took so long to expose that they couldn't hold a smile steady long enough. It came out as a blur. Also, as you say, they had a different life. We take smiling for granted. They didn't have as much to smile about. Thanks for the tour! I will definitely stop there when I travel through Kingman.
Can you imagine what Rt 66 was like in 1950 which was when my parents took us on a vacation to see Hoover Dam, The Painted Desert, The Petrified Forest, and on to Missouri. I remember it being so barren it was almost eerie. Glad you are doing this video. I haven’t seen Kingman since 1986.
RTE 66 … ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME ON LIFES HIGHWAYS … Have been on RT 66 many times …. We moved from Maine when I was a little girl (2nd grade) … Connected up on Rt 66 in Chicago … All the way to “back home” … My bucket list hopefully to go back home on Rt 66 … Sadly many parts are now decommissioned …. Sad situation … Perhaps one day it will all be put back into its original condition (wishful thinking 😩😩😢) … Thanks Russ for your travel videos …. You bring back so many memories … How I absolutely love your travels … Making so many memories for us … Godspeed … You are living my life ❤️❤️💯💯😀😀😀🌴🌴🌴🌵🦋🦋🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for the Kingman tour.i'm one of the new influx of people moving to Mohave Co. i will be in the Kingman area [Yucca] in july getting my septic system installed on my Property.
Thanks for another great visit to my hometown Russ. Some of those ranching pictures are of my ancestors. Our Brand is on that wall also. WF - Grounds. My great grandfathers name was William Franklin and they used his initials to design their brand.
I was born in Kingman and lived there from 1973 thru 1978 and 1984 thru 1986. I also attended that high school (Kingman/Lee Williams) accross from Railroad Park. I published some videos recently on my channel featuring my experience and some significant events that happened there over the years. Thanks for sharing your drive through of my old hometown. It's nostalgic to see that familiar scenery again.
My wife and I were there in Kingman, AZ in February on our way to Phoenix, and stopped to take a picture under the sign and find at least one geocache. Great video, information about the area.
Hey Russ driven the 66 Flagstaff to Chicago 6-7 times…… ALWAYS in a hurry to get to SW Michigan. Albuquerque 7 hrs, Amarillo 10 hrs, Seymore Okla halfway there! All times from Phoenix btw
Awesome documentary of Kingman Old Town! I love road trips and discovering our history hands on. Just passed through Kingman AZ on our way from Houston Tx with a stop in Santa Fe NM. Route 66! Major!

I'm planning on relocating to the Kingman area. It was nice to see some of it through your camera before I arrive there. Cool museums. Thanx for the tour..
Old Kingman below, new Kingman up over the bluffs, on "Andy Devine" Blvd. If you enjoy geology, it's worth taking the freeway cut. Thanks for the look inside the museums I never took the time to visit!
In case you read this: You mentioned going to Henderson tomorrow. I know you avoid the madness of Las Vegas, but tomorrow, it's especially important. The Golden Knights' parade to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup is tomorrow. They're expecting what the police called "A New Year's Eve crowd." I live in Las Vegas, and I'm going to Overton for the day. Safe travels.
Hello to you, this is Gerri from Ohio (state im in now).Truly you have made an amazing video. I was born in Kingman, AZ at the old Mohave General Hospital which was located downtown Kingman. Definitely a lot has changed over the years. I remember when 'Mr. Dee's', as it is called now, used to be an A&W. Thank you for filming this and reminding me of where I was born and raised. Sincerely grateful for memories recounted.
Hi Russ when you get to n.m. You may want to check out canyon de Chelly you will have to make a small detour back into az my wife and me really enjoyed it when we were there in 1996 I really enjoy your videos thanks robert
I lived on Packard st. in Kingman for a while once--- it was NICE.. HOT'ern heck in summer though- never got out in the day time there. Have a picture of the house I stayed in there-- with almost 2 ft. of snow on it!!! :) No one back here believed it snowed in the desert!! ha. I worked in Laughlin- I always stop in Kingman to gas up when I drive back to Califrnia..
Awesome ride!! My wife and I will be riding through Seligman Peach Springs and Kingman in May.... Only thing I see missing since we've been through before is the Route 66 badges on the roads where they asphalted.....🥺 Hope they'll re-badge them. Thanks again, Great Job!! 👍
12:50 - That's probably my favorite color in the world. I'd love to have an exact color match to paint my house that way, LOL. By the way, I'm watching it on my TV, but switched to my phone to type this comment, and there's no comparison for the color; it looks much better on my TV, just in case anyone wonders what the big deal is. I want to move there.
Russ, if you travel through Northern New Mexico, in "Grants" along Interstate-40, you will find "EL MALPAIS", a region covered with volcanic ashes eons ago that New Mexico turned into a State Park well worth exploring. And when you are around Las Vegas, go climb Mount Charleston, another "must-see" natural wonder. RICHARD
Always wondered what Kingman might be like in the daytime. Always went through late at night except for one time when I just couldn't stop due to a pressing schedule. Thanks for the tour...
Russ, in northern New Mexico head to Chama where the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operates over the Southern Rockies. Great filming and drone opportunities.
Love being back in Kingman and Golden Valley. I want to check out the museum. Hven't been there in a while. love the history of Kingman. Ask Jim Hinkley. He'll tell you all you need to know.
Thank you Sir. I really enjoyed this video. I remember the one you did last year in Kingman. I first visited Kingman in the middle 70’s. Sure has changed.
Been watching you for awhile now and I didn't see you ever stop at Nelson's Ghost Town Nelson, Nevada (Just north of Searchlight). Got married there this past March. What a unique, fun place!!
Places to visit along RT 66 in AZ. & N.M.- Window Rock,Fort Defiance, Old Town Alb.,the Crest-Sandia Peak Tramway,Moriarty,The turquoise trail, Madrid- where " Wild Hogs" was filmed, Mesalands Dinosaur Museum in Tucumcari are a few!
Russ have you ever gone into The Route 66 Bar & Grill in Belmont, AZ.?? If your heading that way it would be worth a quick stop. I haven't been there for yrs.! They had numerous old style gas pumps, hot rods and an old motel sign from a motel just east of there, it was in the movie where Peter Fonda flipped off the motel owner as he changed the sign NO Vacavcy, Didn't want them hippie motorcycle guys staying there. Anyway it might be worth a short stop and see. I totally enjoy your video's and content. Thanks
The picture of the man bending down to the toddler with all the family's belongings tied to the old ford; that's how dad came out west and I have an old picture of them just before they left Oklahoma. Grapes of wrath - Oklahoma dust-bowl depression going west to look for work. I believe he came through kingman on their way to so cal. He mentioned there was no bridge where they crossed a big river, (I assume he meant the Colorado), and took a river ferry somewhere. I've not heard of such a thing but there must have been one back then somewhere. That generation sure had it rough,....and then went off to fight in a war. Whew.
Hey Russ! Great vid! Hey, while you’re in New Mexico, any chance you might get over to Angel Fire Ski Resort? Would love to see that if you’re able. Thanks Brotha! 😎🇺🇸
Hi Russ! I see you been running around Kingman! We met at the post office down in Quartzite. We had the old skoolie. We’re sitting on our property up in the Peacock mountains! So far we are really enjoying Kingman!

And little did they know that people would be looking at their photos 100 years later.
I love living in Kingman
Phoenix here….elaborate please. Can’t see how? Close to Vegas,Grand Canyon? Summers in the100s
@@keithbalke6352 Yes, it is close to both, and the summers aren't as bad as its not in a valley, hell, it's higher up in elevation.

Buckeye reservoir Colorado rimrocker trail. My understanding is they built some of the high roller in Vegas in Kingman
In case you read this: You mentioned going to Henderson tomorrow. I know you avoid the madness of Las Vegas, but tomorrow, it's especially important. There are spots in NM with ponds that have 3day camping spots with free electricity and water in Eunice NM
FREE ELECTRIC? What’s the elevation there?

Thank you for the advice and the info about what to expect. We’re taking a trip but time is a concern and knowing what to look for is important 👍
When in kingman you should go west of kingman on the original rte 66 through oatman Arizona.

That’s the family has been mining those turquoise since after World War II
It's ok however you want to say route, your telling the tell. 🎉 😂
That Kingman route 66 arch is a exact replica of arch they've had in Grants NM for a long while.
It’s been in circulation since the 1800s and it’s still in circulation today called the Kingman daily miner

Mohave county is the 5th largest county in the US.
I was out there a week ago! It's getting very California in Kingman at least with the gas prices 😅
Yes, Williams and Flagstaff had cheaper gas than we saw in Kingman. Even down in Bullhead it is less.
I'm from Phoenix and one thing I can say is that Arizona has well paved streets and sidewalks everywhere.
Hi Russ! I see you been running around Kingman! We met at the post office down in Quartzite. We had the old skoolie. We’re sitting on our property up in the Peacock mountains! So far we are really enjoying Kingman!
Great place to visit. They love Andy DeVine
They couldn’t smile because it was a long process for them to take the picture you had to stay still for a certain amount of time
