    J P I think you should get the first place trophy for cleaning of a smoker. Eric that has LonestarGrillz put up a video, and there was someone with Shirley Fab put one. This should be watched by anyone that wants to keep there smoker clean and avoid issues of rust and decay. You mentioned in your video one being should of could of. What extras that you did'nt would you have gotten. Just Curios

      Well I appreciate that John very much. Thanks for watching and commenting. Some of the things that I should of gotten when I first got my smoker were
      1. Fire assist (will light up your wood much faster).
      2. Ash pan (easy on clean up and will save the bottom of your fire box. It is a heavy duty ash pan. Never seen one built this tough).
      3. Stainless steel shelf (makes clean up easier and it looks good).
      4. Pull handle
      Hey thanks John appreciate you stopping by and watching. Hope this helps.

      @@JPBBQ do you wish you got the 1/2 inch firebox? Chris says it holds temps better. How has the 1/4" firebox do with holding temps?

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrPanthers23 thanks for watching and commenting on my video. im happy with the 1/4 inch it does a good job it hold temps pretty good. Sorry i dont have nothing to compare it too. Im guessing that the extra thickness in the metal will hold temps longer and use less fuel to hold that temp once its heated up. The thing that gets beat up the most is the firebox, those are usually the first thing to go out, meaning burning through, rust, etc... ofcourse im talking about the cheap offset with the flimsy metal you would get at a large box retalier not LoneStarGrillz. Those are built like tanks. So if you can get the 1/2 firebox that thing will last you a very long time, even the 1/4 inch will last you a very long time. Chris and his team build an awesome product. Thanks again

    J.P., I noticed you have 4 tuning plates, did your smoker come with 4 or did you purchase an extra one. I ask because I bought the same LSG 30" offset cabinet as your's and it only came with 3. I called LSG and they said it's supposed to have 3.

    • @JPBBQ
      @JPBBQ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting KB. Yes it only comes with three. I ordered a fourth plate to see if it made that much of a difference in keeping a steady temp across the pit and really did not make a difference at all. The best way to keep a steady temp across the pit is by filling it with water. Hope that helps. Thanks again.

    I have the ash pan. It doesn't catch them all but it does protect the bottom of the firebox from hot coals and embers that drop down. If you think the grate is heavy, that ash pan is more so!
    Drip pans and foil will save you hours of effort cleaning.
    What do you do with the water loaded with grease? It's bad to dump grease down the house drains.

    What was the main reason you went with this vertical smoker rather than a traditional offset like the 20x40 or 24x40? I was leaning toward one of those but seeing a bunch of your videos I'm thinking the 24" vertical might be better for the amount of room.

    • @JPBBQ

      Hey there Kevin I appreciate you watching and commenting on my video. I went with the 30 x 36 because it was the biggest smoker they had in their lineup at the time and for the money it was not that much more for the amount of extra cooking area. Also I knew that I would be cooking for friends and family and needed the extra room. Thanks again.

    I treat mine like a cast iron skillet scrape out the excess grease and wash it out with water. I never use soap because it breaks down the seasoning of the smoker. The reason why cast iron and smokers are so good to cook out of is because of the flavor of all the past cooks in it. It helps better with the seasoning of the grill and using soap is counter productive. Seasoning also protects against rust and wear and tear.

    Great walk through JP!!! I have an offsett LSG as well and yes that fire grate has some weight to it bro. I did get the ash pan as well and that thing is heavier than the grate!!! lol So I definitely clean out the firebox pretty similar to how you do as well. Every blue moon I'll pull out the ash pan to get the ash around it and re spray. I also use that grill spray oil on the exterior when I do see rust too. And yes it definitely does cook that oil into the metal there and turns all that rust back to black. (If you don't have touch up paint, this will definitely work in a pinch too.) Curious here: what do you use all over the exterior? I've seen where people will use 50-50 water and oil in a sprayer and apply it when the pit is warm. For me is just ran off and didn't seem to really do much. The best result I've had is spraying the exterior as I said with spray oil but after a few days man it would attract all kinds of dust and/or fuzzies in the air. Thanks for sharing your greatly detailed cleaning process bro!

      Thanks Dawgfatha appreciate the comment and compliment. On the exterior i just use water and distilled vinegar, roughly a gallon of water to a cup of vinegar and wipe it down. Seems to do a pretty good job. Some spots are tougher than other where some grease or oil had spilled over from the backside of griddle but that is really about all i use on the outside, and again thanks, I appreciate you watching my video.
