That's cause they are just partners, not really employees. Those drivers don't work for Uber, they only use Uber for their own business. It's basically similar to using eBay, you don't work for eBay you only use their website to list and sell stuff or you use it to buy stuff. Same thing with Uber you use it to offer rides or use it to get rides. Uber is a platform just like eBay, you don't work for them you use them for our own business.

  • @Ben-gg9in
    @Ben-gg9in ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've had conversations and sometimes the driver is only making 30 to 50% from whatever the passenger pays.
And then if you were to do the math on the maintenance and gas and cost of the wear and tear in a vehicle and how long that vehicle will last before it stops working, you're really only making half of whatever you take home.
So, you're making $7 to $10 an hour after expenses. And who knows one day your car will just break down and then you'll be making payments on it still. Meanwhile, you won't be making any money.
And on top of that there's just no benefits at all that are really worth it. So of course it's not great.
And what do you think you're going to do? You think you're going to convince them to pay you more so you can make an extra $2.5 to $5 more an hour?
What are they going to do? Charge the passengers more?
They don't even really care about you long-term because they think everything is going to be automated anyways in the future which it will so they're not going to change anything.
Because they're hoping that by time all the cars are automated, they can just not need you anyway.
So think about that. It basically is what it is and if you don't like it find something else and if you like it stick with it, but they are definitely not going to change anything. You just know they won't because they're going to go out of business if they do because we're going through a recession and everybody's cutting back on expenses.
So to be absolutely realistic it is what it is and you don't have to do it if you don't want to. But you should just know what the outlook is and the expectation of a business like this moving into the future with the use of AI and automated self-driving systems.
Yes, maybe you can convince them to offer you benefits or increase your pay but you will still be out of a job at some point because of the autonomy built into the future vehicles which will be the future taxis.
So with some added foresight I would say that this is really a problem that the government needs to be thinking about and addressing now, so that in the future when it becomes a problem where there are no jobs, the government can then tax the businesses a little bit more money and take money off the top and spread that back out to the people who are losing their jobs (universal income)...
That just seems to be the thing to do.
And if the government doesn't do that then we're all just kicking ourselves in the back of the head.
I'm not saying by any means that the government is the problem. I'm saying this is going to become a problem for them if they don't address it before it becomes the problem. As it certainly is becoming a problem.
You got chat GPT.... There's no excuse government. Use it!
And I'm not trying to belittle the drivers because I'm just like one of you guys. I work but that's why we have government officials appointed in office to be able to predict these things and deal with them. Not when they're problem but before they become a problem and so really this just comes back down to them.
And since this isn't about blaming anyone in particular, because that's not going to do any good and it's more about selling a problem than the question becomes. What's the solution?
And the thing is because everybody is tied to each other in a chain link kind of way. And if you hurt one person you heard everybody then this really needs a solution.
And I am going to say it, but basically there needs to be a little bit more taxes on businesses and that money needs to be redistributed back out towards the people dealing with job losses in their transition into jobs that are more secure in the wake of AI taking over those jobs...
And I'm not saying anything new here because there's been a meeting of top officials all around the world in every single country just about who got together and said there needs to be universal income because of this very problem.
And for all those people out there who don't want to work and are just going to use this, you're going to hurt the rest of us. So basically I would say that this is the kind of program where it needs to be there to help you find yourself in a new job and this universal income isn't going to last forever. It's just there to help transition into another job that isn't going to be taken by AI.
And if AI ends up taking all the jobs well then universal income will truly become universal and you won't need a job.
And that's not a bad thing because if that happens, then that means we've become so efficient as a society to where you are not able to work because a machine can do it better.
So therefore you don't actually need to work at that point, but that's a few decades away.
So yes, in conclusion, this is a problem for the drivers, and it does need a solution. The drivers do need more pay because they are the ones taking the most risk.
Lyft and Uber also need to continue doing business until we transition into autonomous taxis.
I think the thing here is that the government needs to step in and give money to the drivers to help support them. Because if the government doesn't do that and the businesses pay more and then they have to charge the passengers more, the passengers will stop taking lift. The companies will go out of business and there will be no jobs.
The big picture is this is a transition and the government could come in and help here.
The tax deductions are not enough. After tax deductions, you're making the seven to $10 an hour.
I've done the math. I have the charts to prove it. I have the data.
Yes we are in a recession currently but there's also something else that's going on that we may not all be paying attention to as much and that is. We are going through a transition as a world where we are transitioning into the use of AI and this is actually a really good thing for us and so with that the keyword is transition for 2023.
People in the government just need to realize and businesses as well that this is a transition. Things will be okay. Things will get better. We just need to create more programs to account for the loss of jobs and the use of AI and that means the government does and should step in to help assist these drivers to cover their expenses because if Lyft and Uber increase their prices like I just said earlier everybody's going to go to go out of business and people are going to lose jobs anyway, and the people relying on those drivers to take them to work won't be able to make it to their jobs ,and then there will be no need for a government at that point.
Now I can also just see Jerome Powell saying that the jobs report came in too good for the economy and that we're going to hike interest rates by 0.5 most likely or 0.75. and I can see the temptation to let this become a problem so that we can let the numbers look good for us by having more people lose their jobs.
But there's a fine line between all of this and it's not just numbers you're dealing with, it's people's lives at that point and that could get a little out of control even for the government. So there's a fine balance in all of this.
There is a solution. I just hope the people that we appointed to be in these positions of leadership or even the CEOs of companies are a little bit better at communicating with each other because what's happening is not something that just came up recently. It's been a problem, so I hope that now that we're all aware that there are some solutions, that we here of some pretty soon. It's 2023. This is going to be a year of change and transition.
And old ways of keeping and maintaining power are not going to work, especially with what we see Putin doing. If you try to control the change that efficiency is bringing about, especially with the use of AI because you want power, you run the risk of losing everything.
The solution is to embrace the people around you a little bit more than you have in the past in order for us to all transition into this new future of abundance. The opposite is going to be catastrophic.
And the cherry on top of all of this is that we have the data and the technology and the use of AI to realize this before it happens.
The irony is, will we be so human that we will let our carnal nature prevent us from moving forward into this future of abundance. Will we close ourselves off from each other and become more tight knitted to the point where we regress into another dark age? Because there haven't been too many or if any at all before instead of ever experienced an age where we have benefited so well and it usually has to do with efficiency. We are very efficient at this time in 2023. But the question is will we be able to become better than ourselves? Or will we try to revert back to old ways of setting up walls and borders and trying to control the change the AI will bring to all of us? Will we just revert back to the old ways and never evolve to this new way of living? Or will we find solutions? This is just one problem that represents many of all the problems that all businesses and people are facing today in 2023.

What non Uber drivers don’t understand is that in nyc you need a special license to drive for hire vehicles call a TLC license. Your vehicle also needs a tlc license and plates. You have to invest so much money and with the price of everything going up it’s harder to make money now. A lot of drivers have invested a lot and can’t simply just find another job. It’s not that easy when all you’ve been doing is driving for several years. On top of that most drivers have families and can’t simply stop driving to find another job.

Why are they going on strike? Why are they going on strike somebody? Please shoot me an email so I can explain it to you. Why are they going on strike? Do you people in the news know anything about Uber or Lyft? Do you know how they get the job you know how they get the job driving for Uber or Lyft do you I do so let me tell you how they get the job why are they complaining? Why are they complaining? This is how they get the job they download the app no different than a rider Uber and Lyft do a background check and if their background check is fairly clean they have a job there’s no hiring process. Why are they complaining why they didn’t get hired? There was no job interview there was no second interview they did not get hired. They download the app they volunteered. Why are they complaining when they go online and drive they signed up to do whatever Uber and Lyft want to do to them they gave Uber and Lyft all the power to do whatever they want to them and that’s what Uber and Lyft is doing to their drivers the same drivers that voluntarily signed up to drive Uber and Lyft why are they complaining? It was OK when they helped Uber and Lyft put the taxi drivers out of a job the taxi drivers used to make a good living Uber, and Lyft keep taking more of the percentage than what they give to the drivers some of the drivers are actually former taxi drivers but that’s OK. They signed up their own free. They signed up of their own free will to drive for Uber and Lyft, and the only way that things will change is if every single Uber driver and every single Lyft driver stops driving let the taxi companies come back and they will start making a good living until that it will never change. !!! There will be more TH-cam videos from drivers that are not happy. It will never end. It will go on and on and on and on it will never end. !!

Just my opinion, but maybe yellow cab taxis should have exclusive rights to NYC, just as the black cabs do in London. The Uber and Lyft drivers of NYC could save or pool their money to go the yellow cab route in this hypothetical scenario. Uber and Lyft are going to continue to take advantage of their drivers anyway. My advice is they should be asking NYC to ban these companies and provide loans to help them make the transition to yellow taxi drivers.
