"If you are a human, you can make music." THAT'S the revolution we live in. Making music is not just for "musicians" any more. Add "AI musicians" to the mix, and the competition is high for listeners. Thanks for your great content.
Just thought I should drop this, since I’m early. You are one of my favorite guitar related channels. Thank you for everything you do. Tomorrow I will be playing on a stage with some very big bands for the first time in my career. Emery, and Escape the Fate. The band I am in is opening for them. And I will proudly be playing my PRSS2 custom 24.In custom violet metallic. You’re one of the few people that I think might appreciate that fact.
Spot ON! - And.... I'd say Music is returning to the People! One difference of perspective is that EVERYONE has created music from the beginning of civilization... it's only the last 500 years or so that have ceeded to Megastars. I love playing for small intimate gatherings where I can feel the energy of each person and in a sense play to the listening that arises from the collective energy. FAR more satisfying than playing a bigger stage and only playing to my own script. And, THANKS for presenting your own music.. love your feel of guitar, and respectively love that you left vocals in more raw form.. that speaks to or demonstrates one aspect of the message.
Thanks. I completey agree that everyone has always created music right from the beginning. it's a big part of being human. Thanks for checking out the last song
good commentary. one way to work with music but not be a musician is through rearrangement of midi files. if you learn the software and add some instruments, all of a sudden, you have a song playing. nice tune at the end. thanks for sharing it with us.
I know what you mean about releasing music and it only getting 200 views. This happens to me every time with my original music. Incidentally my biggest "hits" are Berserk covers, it's better than nothing I guess. I think it's uplfiting to hear that you can put money and time into making the best original music possible and if it doesn't get loads of listens, so what, at least it will connect with some people.
The problem with supporting an anarchistic utopianism (everybody is a musician, make your own music) against an AI-driven dystopian totalitarianism (production and consumption at scale, family restaurants robbed off visibility in the chaotic environment of media, only holding onto a sliver of hope in the form of going viral) somewhat disregards how "taste" is formed and maintained. If you haven't been introduced to sushi or fine-dining you won't be able to factor it in your actual choices. It becomes a preserve of a social group, more rigidly an identity marker like a club membership rather than assessed in terms of a common, if not universal, musical language. What may be music to some, can be fart that stinks to others. When there is no lower bar to entry into music-making, when there's no a-b-c or crossroads, gateways, it's not only hard to chart a map and follow music that has been put out there, somewhere on the internet, but it's hard to recognize or assess every sonic manipulation you encounter labeled as music. Judgement follows distinguishing or a discernment of what is good and bad, and if we do not allow any aesthetic principle, that "musical particle" attaining value for want of principle and judgment becomes null. Furthermore if you cannot or unwilling to determine what is good and bad in a given situation, how may one take action? Niche marketing is nice and all, but when you leave masses be, dropping the civics of musical education and literacy, so that fine diners won't be bothered, it even takes away from musical artistry, since quality attain value in relative terms, not in absolute terms. I don't know, I can't help being a "concerned citizen" and I see merit in commons rather than private estates of this or that lordship's. I feel overburdened with excess stimuli, trying to find my way in a jungle, and don't share your newly found optimism for the reasons stated above, but I can only agree that enthusiasm is better than indifference, and will argue that the actual pattern of distribution impacts both production and consumption of any commodity. Most new faces like Mancuso or Sibiriano looks to me showing technical/athletic prowess (in some way this isn't any different than when Page or Blackmore were session musicians) rather than an obviously artistic expression that I can appreciate and enjoy immediately as a consumer (more of a sense of wonder that ensues from a spectacle than pleasure from an artwork).
What AI will do is people to question really good musicians. People will argue "tricks" being used since the general public or listener has no idea of music making. Yet gear like vocoders and sequencers as drummachines and synthesizers have been debated and questioned it to be "true instruments" and part of musicianship... Opinions will be diverse...by listeners as musicians (Keith Jarrett really dislikes electronic instruments...yet his music I like as I do like Kraftwerk 😅). The direction we were heading with sequencers etc. just got another dimension...we can like or dislike this. Take sampling in hip hop and rap...very often just short excerpts of James brown (Hear the drummer get wicked!) or DeLaSoul... A Canadian band sampled phrases from movies and put this in their horror music 😅 (seen them three times live 😎). There will always be debate on what is music is and should be.
Sometimes I can't believe the statings of the professional drummers never having heard the tunes. Though I don't prefer the one or the other style, I'm still aware of the songs. And they don't select b-sides from a garage band. Generally they choose singles from Tier 1 artists. Portnoys attempt on Taylor Swift was exemplary for an alleged Mark Twain quotation: Having a hammer everything appears like a nail. Hence Portnoy used the full spectrum of his kit - and it is way too much, especially double bass. A "master master" sometimes is not capable for a lean approach. Not anything is a dick competition. Keep it short, simple and stupid (KISSAS). In terms of the contemporary distribution of music via mass media: The uncountable amount of daily published tunes requires a multi domain approach to gain attention. It's not the pure quality of music, a captivating hook e. g., you need something that catches clicks: fancy locations, cats, ...
Utkarsh, your closing song/vibe reminded me of the song 'Black Swan' (But I know there's more to life) by Pink Turns Blue. th-cam.com/video/ukMvH-F85RA/w-d-xo.html
@@ministryofguitar Definitely on the dark side 🙃 Their older stuff is great: I Coldy Stare Out, Walking On Both Sides, etc. Great lyrics with a dark rock vibe. Seems you have a similar mix in your songs...and awesome soloing in your Shackles!!! 👍 Just a random thought (no need to reply): Do you ever think you'd ever consider posting recordings of you playing or consider doing Live Stream? 🤔 www.youtube.com/@JennyColquitt/streams
