Surfing, to the level that you can get "soooo pitted" and "smack the lip - waapah" is one of the hardest things you can do... It literally takes years, surfing 2 or 3 hrs nearly ever day, to reach that level .. You also have to "pay your dues" along the way, with a lot of beatings, hold-downs, stitches from cuts, and what feels like near death experiences in the process ... This is one of the reasons it creates that level of shear excitement, thrill and "stoke" that it does when the waves are good and you're tuned in ... Don't get me wrong, there are levels to this thing, with excitement and stoke to be had at many different milestones e.g. 1st stand up on white water , stand up on green water , do a turn , do a top turn, race down the line, duck dive etc etc - but the "it's better than sex" level takes a lot of time and dedication to reach !!
