- Wavy banners, what could be better for showing the names of things in a flowing old time way. Maybe you want a banner that shows how much you too love guns and or roses. Or just the word mom. Or the name of your company, first girlfriend, or a favourite pet. I suppose those are all just about the same thing anyway.
This technique uses the bezier warp, bulge, and a little imagination... ooooooooh imagination!

awesome tut Evan!
Such a widely applicable tool to have up your sleeve -- great stuff! And I like how you consider different use cases based on what others might like to do.
I'm blown away by these tutorials, thanks so much for making them!:)
So epic ! Continue with these awesome tutorials ! Love you work dude !
Love it.Nice step up from the classic pop out kinda banners,You previously done a tutorial on it a while back.
it's like the sequel.
I've been away from AE for a minute. Your tutorial, as always, open the doors to learning AE. I never fully understood collapse transformation, but now I will always be on the lookout of how it can change the final outcome. And the use of the merge path/shape layer just became that much more clear. Happy New Year.
thank you for all your tutorials, you are awesome
Definitely have your lessons style down, you don't waste any time, Thanks a lot.
Bezier Warp is my new favorite thing. Thanks for sharing. This will help me a lot at work.
Nice one (as always). I thought you were going to go puppet tool at first, but you've managed to show me a new technique again. I always learn something from your tutes, thanks.
puppet too, bah!
great work, i'll post the fruit of your loins on Monday. The repeater worked out like a charm
Love it! Thanks!
Nice I´ll try to do something like that...thanks Evan
Great tips about Bezier Warp at 5:56
Great tut!
Another great tutorial! Thank you! This vids are so useful! Thumbs UP!
I'm practicing my Ae skills right now using this tutorial and I had a specific banner in mind for this, so I used an image banner from one of my previous projects but somehow isn't going through the null. is there a way for it to be affected?
Superb explanations... Really useful, and lots of side tips as well.. Thanks! :)
Thanks very much for your tutorial !! You are the best with your instructions and the view of your video... 👍
Thanks, great little trick :)
this is very helpful! thanks :)
nice, thanks!
This would be great as a lower third graphic!
love the videos :)
I love getting on TH-cam each weekend and seeing that you've posted a new tutorial!
Do you feel like doing tutorials has kept you sharp in After Effects and perhaps made you a better motion graphics designer?
I'm glad you like my stuff. Perhaps the tutorials accomplish that but I feel solving creative problems for clients is more the cause of my increased ability and sharpness. The tutorials are mostly my tried and true methods and my growth in this career happens when I must invent new things out of nothing.
Thanks very useful
You save my life
GREAT!!
I have a question. What kind of program do you use when you capture your screen? It looks very clear!
+Seulgi Kang I use iShowUHD, it's simple but good.
So coool!
you saved my life
hooray! tutorial!
This is prettiest
witch button you press in the minute 2:12? thanks!!!!
|| You are always the Best of the Best ::::: Loving all your creativity that is totally different than others in Adobe After Effects. You inspire to create somethings in Life :) Thumbs Up :) ||
I'm SUPER new to AE, and still struggling with basics... BUT, can someone explain how to do this same "wavy" effect into the frame, but when the text/banner is at the center of the frame, it's straightened out? Basically have it distorted as it enters the frame, then leveled/straight across in the center. :)
Nice tuto.
Hey you did some advertising on Spotify? or im just crazy.
We do not advertise the channel at this time. Must have been something else.
I am in the beginning stages of learning After Effects - is it easier to bring in layered illustrator vector files or build everything within AE?
***** the answer really depends. If you're very confident in Ai, then it'll be far simpler to start there. If you're as confident in either Ai or Ae then Ae might be the best place to start because it'll limit the things you need to do. And if you're very confident in Ae but not at all in Ai then sticking with Ae is a sure bet. There is a tutorial on this channel about importing from Ai if your'e interested that may help.
***** I do most of my artwork ahead of time in Illustrator and then import it. I've been using Illustrator for longer and I find it more productive for working with vector art.
Man, I love your tutorials, I allways learn a looot of things...
Plz can you tell what you hit at 2:12 to see all your layers at once... And is it the same thing to see your "composition view"???
Thank you very much, plz keep up your awesome work!!!
howdy. I hit the ~ key. Or maybe it's the ` key. Whatever that key is called next to the 1 on your keyboard at the top left side. That will make whatever window you're in the whole size of the screen. Then just hit the key to go back to the previous view. It's very handy.
ECAbrams Well it doesnt work for me, but thank you very much anyway...
ECAbrams
Thank you again man, but I had to search it on google and change it on this file:
C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\10.0\Adobe After Effects 10.0 Shortcuts
Since I'm using CS5.5, but I have CS4 and CS5, I did change it in every single file...
for every one who wants to know that...
ilusaosemlimite Okay, my advice to anyone else: consult Adobe.com for all shortcuts and DO NOT alter your shortcuts before you consult the official word on shortcuts for your version, language, and keyboard configuration.
yeah, youre right!!!
ECAbrams you are my hero... if one wanted to add a 3D look, how would they go about it? basically a shadow on the background that is true to to the movement and warping.
You could try precomping the banner then making a duplicate, filling it black, giving it a blur, lowering the opacity, and moving it about to where you feel the shadow should be cast. or try the drop shadow. I'm not sure what all you're going for in the overall look.
that is why you are my hero... i was going to turn on 3D and start adding lights... because i like to suffer for no reason... thanks again for all the tutorials!
"It will basically create a Boolean operation"
Boolean is the AND/OR gates, right? How does that fit in the context?
The best way to see what that means for geometry is to get two circles and overlap them and then change the merge paths operation. We say "boolean" because it is saying the resultant shape is "this shape AND this other shape" or "this shape NOT this other shape" or "this shape OR this shape" or "this shape AND ONLY this other shape". The boolean operation defines the resultant vector shape geometry just like in 3d programs or illustrator's pathfinder window.
thank for your good After Effects tutorial
I have been Watching your tutorials everyday.^^
why is it when i create a polystar its is very small? how do i make it so the polygon fits the rectangle?
ImSmartYo you can just make it larger in the layer's properties.
the reason why i like after effects is because if you want to create really cool motion effect you don't use templates, you have to do everything from scratch. Lot more creativity.
and you can always download other people's templates too if you feel lazy :)
+ECAbrams I was able to create my video intro, thanks.
Is it possible to make the banner circle around a 3D object?
all things are possible. imagine a sandwich with your object in the middle and a banner is the bread. does that make sense?
ECAbrams yea it does, thanks
Nice oonee
can you make a video to make cool looking lower thirds?
Depends what you consider "cool looking" I suppose.
7:39 You just got yourself a like.
everytime i move the polygon layer under the rectangle path the polygons are resized and i dont see an option to fix that.
I don't know why a position change would ever alter a size property. There must be more to what you're doing than you have described here. Neither do I understand why you would not be able to simply alter the size back if the size property is what is being altered.
well im really new to this so maybe i am doing something wrong but i dont know what because i followed you tutorial step by step. I'll just download the project and compare mine to yours. Maybe something in my settings is off.
Sir, why did i always have a different graphic shape? I've already followed all the instruction before.
I'm not totally sure what your question is. However, if when you follow the instruction of the tutorial you get a different result you should consider starting over and taking things one step at a time. Likely there is a small step you have skipped in the process somewhere.
teach me personal please !))wow! it's real good
thank you!
Sony vegas?
+Chilli Nothing what about it?
+ECAbrams I want to do the same in sony vegas because I find after effects intimidating
Is it possible?
Sorry I can't find a video on it anywhere and you seem to explain things well
+Chilli Nothing I don't use Vegas. I'm sure it's possible to do something similar... I don't really know. I'm an Adobe person.
That Canadian accent xD
