Congrats Micah again on passing and earning the gold coin! I passed the exam in July and I agree that the VMs could be a bit beefier for the $500 price point. Great review of BTL1! 🙂
I'm taking the exam on the 15th of next month (NZ time). I'm planning to make sure I've done every lab the maximum number of times I can, doing a bunch of the BTLO labs etc, etc. I'm also planning to write down every question with a pencil and then make notes about the question (really hoping to avoid misreading a question and there is so much time to do all of this). Wish me luck and thanks for this vid!
Congratulations my guy!! Beast of an exam! Heck of an accomplishment! Your youtube channel definitely helped me pass my cysa+ exam this year! Been following your content and it’s very clear and concise and very high quality! Definitely a must watch and keep up the great work!
Good review. Coming from someone else who passed it last month. Took me about 3-4 weeks to take the entire course and pass. If you've done the SoC level 1 course on THM you're in an amazing stage to pass. Overall was a fun exam for me to take. What other cert are you looking to grab? I was looking at CCD but that price is pretty hefty. Congrats again!
Hey @@Micahs0day I wanted to ask a follow up question. Im struggling to get more job interviews for SoC positions. Deciding on whether or not i should go for CYSA+. I know you passed it sometime last year, how does it compare to BTL1. In terms of knowledge, in passing BTL1 would you think someone would even need CYSA+? Deciding on my next step is getting more and more pricy so i want to make sure im taking an optimal path.
Tailoring my resume helped me a ton when I was on the job hunt. There's an awesome video from BHIS on it. Search TH-cam for 'Tailor Your Resume Kip Boyle'. It's 2 parts. As for the certifications, I can't recommend which will help you get a job faster, it's all about the job req. However, I will say that I feel like the BTL1 teaches you how to be an analyst with practical hands-on learning, while the CYSA+ gave me a base knowledge and understanding of what being an analyst consists of through lectures. Two very different experiences.@@Strive117
@@Micahs0day Hmm okay. In terms of CYSA+ vs BTL1, a huge part of me wants to avoid brain dump COMPTIA exams. Running through practice exams now and I feel confident that BTL1 is basically CYSA+ just in a more practical sense. CYSA+ focuses on minute stuff that I don't see as important. But a part of me wanted to knock it out just for the HR REP. But ill start by tailoring my resume. I'll look into the videos! Thanks man!
Idk practical skills seem like the best way to break into the industry. That’s what I’m gaining now so I can speak to it in an interview. My certs haven’t taught me much other than general IT skills and knowledge.
Thank you for the review. And congrats on passing! Did you work as a SOC before taking the exam for BTL1? OR did this cert help you become one? I just got my Sec+ and need hands on. Does this really help you get actual experience to be able to start contributing when you first get into the role? Thanks in advance
Yes, I worked in a SOC before taking the exam. However, you definitely don't need to in order to pass. This cert definitely helps you get hands on relevant experience that can transfer to the real world.
Hey Micah, Are you able to use your notes on this exam? I have procedures for artifact gathering written in a Notion document. Will I be able to use these during the actual exam?
Hi Micah, How to prepare for BTL1 exam. Topics covered in the course is sufficient or should i refer to external sources. Of course. Experience trumps any cert. Have you taken any practical/hands on certifications, though?
Congratulations !!

thank you!
i just started HTB CDSA and its not great at teaching i feel. but now thinking of the BTL1 but its a bit more pricey
Not sure about the HTB one, but I can definitely vouch for the BTL1.
Going to finish my sec+ and splunk then rethink btl1 or cdsa
@@ZeNex74 Probably a smart decision. Feel free to reach out. Good luck!
Ggwp! Are you allowed to use internet during the exam? Google etc
Yep, sure can.
What's the difference in gold and silver?
Gold is awarded to those who scored 90% or above on the test.
Hey Micah,
Are you able to use your notes on this exam? I have procedures for artifact gathering written in a Notion document. Will I be able to use these during the actual exam?
Yep, sure can.
Congrats bro! How do you make these videos? Do you use a special software or just screen record using windows and edit in premier?
shotcut
Is it better to take this over sec+?
I may have missed this but is the exam open book?
Yep, sure is.
@@Micahs0day Appreciate the response! Just enrolled in the Blue Team cert after watching your video.
@@gilbertorona9142 Nice! Good luck!
Still tempted, sec+ finish soon. But i keep hearing how basic this course is... but maybe anyway..
