I ACTUALLY MET ERROL GARNER BEFORE HE PASSED ! I GOT TO SIT LIKE 6 FEET FROM HIM THROUGH HIS ENTIRE PERFORMANCE ! AND WHAT A PERFORMANCE IT WAS ! HE WAS SO SMALL THAT HE HAD TO SIT ON 2 HOUSTON PHONE BOOKS ON THE PIANO BENCH ! MAN, HE REALLY WORKED FOR HIS MONEY ! AWESOME !
Man, I clicked this video very fast as soon as I saw it, I love Erroll Garner's style. Erroll Garner actually wrote Misty, by the way. Thank you very much for this video; gonna go practice my arpeggios!
great, I love the steady groove in the left hand, combined with the “laid-back” feel of the right hand. It reminds me of the Count Basie big band with Freddy Green on the guitar.
That tip to move around diatonic within the melody was a good one, I never put much thought into diatonic movement until after watching this video. Thanks love the videos, keep them coming!
thanks Noah. I'm I'm just starting to dig deep & play hours a day. Novice. Your showing me techniques i can use & make some things i'm fighting with easier. If i can pick up 1/10th of something i'll improve so much. I love it ! Thank You very much. I'm not in a rush. But progress is satisfying.
Excellent topic!. 9:13 We look forward to parts 3 and 4 for even more on how to play arpeggios and right-hand soloing behind the beat, I notice when he laid back his right hand that Erroll played a lot of even eights.
Excellent break down of the skills to create these grooves..You got to start with basic coordinations, If you can't do this, it will never sound right and solid.. when I was a young be-bop guy, we used to make fun of Garner's playing.. Boy! Were we stupid!.. He da man! specially now when solo playing is a major market...Sure, trio is great, but harder to find work that way.
Dude this is insane, I literally search up How to play like Erroll Garner and I got your video from 7 years ago! Really enjoyed so I though I'd check out your channel.... your latest vid is the same topic?! What are the chances! And so cool to see how much you've improved man, keep it up! Subscribing for sure
Thanks for going in depth on an understudied pianist! My only wish was that this had been on your grand, as the action on electric pianos doesn't respond as well to rapid chord switching and repeated notes. But otherwise, really well done. I love this series of videos.
.... 'keep left hand steady AND hang back rhythmically with the right hand " : that is the WHOLE point of Errol Garner's style. It's so easy to say it and so hard to do, so the question remains HOW to learn that skill.
I'm a guitar player by trade, but Errol Garner is the reason I started teaching myself piano. Absolutely my favorite piano player
The left hand arpeggio style deserves its own in depth video.

The best study of Garner that I am come across in 30 years. Thank-you.

Thanks, Theo! Yeah I know what you mean. It's kind of a piano version of that arranging style.
8 years ago now ten! You improved so much
Thank you for this!
He has crazy right hand!!!

Wow ! This is a great video ! I just watched an Erroll Garner documentary ,so it's great to hear you explain what he's doing ! Thank you kindly...
Spot. On. Noah.
it would be great a book like 20 killers exercises for Erroll Garner style piano :)
Thanx, Maestro.
Awesome video! I'm thrilled by this trick of keeping the inner voices the same while the octave-melody changes.
Even though a lot of this stuff is beyond my abilities it is very inspirational to keep me moving and improving!
Excellent video.

the left-hand arpeggio...you have such a way with piano.
logan green Thanks Logan, appreciate it 🙏
That was an awesome lesson. Thank you!
Il migliore video esplicativo su Garner, lo riguardo infinite volte, è bellissimo, per me un po' troppo veloci gli esempi ma bellissimo!
Grande!

LIKE SO MUCH !!!
like your videos, always thoughtful and on point structured, great videos, thank you and please keep it up :)
Hey, you're welcome! Glad to hear they're helpful
Interesting technique , I'm an old fan of this . Love it even though I'm a Blues Guitar and Bass player....
Those licks are so tasteful! I'm definitely going to practice this
Awesome, let me know how it goes!

Watch his face from 2:40
hahaha. Good catch-- threw in that watery psychedelic transition
hahahaha wow xD
Wait I'm confused... is this whole channel just an AI generated deepfake of an awesome pianist? If so props to google.
Alic4444 hahaha ahh you caught me.

Noah Kellman haha not as good as you man! Trumpets my main instrument 🎺
@@georgeclayton Ah cool, well it's great to meet you bro.
Noah Kellman likewise! Looking forward to future vids 😊
I’m glad I’m not a Piano player cuz I would just play Garner all the time and get a copy-cat label. 😅
hahaha I feel you man... I'm probably gonna get one of those labels one of these days :p what instrument you play?

Step 3 dragging the right hand for me is the bigger part of this technique. Still haven’t mastered it myself yet.
Great!
Thanks, Alejandro!
NK means excellent.. Wonder full super... 👍👍👍👍
Solomon Y Thanks, Solomon 🙏🙏
Garner most underrated in my opinion

10:45 song name?
He doesn't just have a famous recording of Misty... he wrote the damn thing!
2:40 LMAO
Look at his face!
Garners left hand was like Freddie Green
He actually wrote misty
Is no one going to talk about his face @ 2:40 ... oh .. ok
that intro sounded like SHIT, now we all know how hard it is
