A mulberry tree can produce a lot of fruit! Matt Lebon with the Foodscaper shows how he uses a tarp to quickly harvest delicious mulberries.

Harvesting mulberries with a tarp can efficiently collect the ripe fruits that fall from the tree. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
Choose the right tarp: Select a large enough tarp to cover the area beneath the mulberry tree. A size of 8 feet by 8 feet or larger should work well.
Position the tarp: Spread the tarp on the ground beneath the mulberry tree. Make sure the tarp is centered directly beneath the canopy of the tree, as this is where the majority of the fruit will fall.
Secure the tarp: Place rocks, bricks, or other heavy objects around the edges of the tarp to hold it in place. This will prevent it from shifting or blowing away when the wind blows or when you're picking the fruit.
Shake the tree: Gently shake the branches of the mulberry tree to encourage the ripe fruit to fall onto the tarp. You can use a long pole or a ladder to reach higher branches if necessary.
Collect the fruit: Once you've shaken the tree, wait for a few moments to allow all the ripe mulberries to fall onto the tarp. Then, carefully gather the corners of the tarp and lift it up, creating a bundle of gathered fruit.
Transfer the fruit: Move the gathered fruit from the tarp into containers or buckets for further processing or storage. Be gentle to avoid damaging the fruit.
Repeat the process: Continue shaking the tree and collecting the fallen mulberries until you've harvested as much fruit as desired or until there are no more ripe berries on the tree.
Clean up: After you've finished harvesting, remove the tarp from the ground and clean up any fallen leaves or debris.
Remember, mulberries can stain clothing and surfaces, so wear old clothes or use protective gear if necessary. Enjoy your freshly harvested mulberries!

We have an old mulberry tree on our farm but I've never had a ripe mulberry from it, the squirrels and birds get to them first. We have eaten the white mulberries from it and they are good but not very sweet. Do you have any suggestions for protecting our crop on this 25 foot tree?
