I love this show. I'm not even American or a huge basketball fan. I loved the old style, the talking to the camera and the humor. These are the kind of writers that need a raise.
Being A Man of the 80’s, everything about this series is so surreal that at times it brings me to tears thinking about what has passed, while these moments would bring me pure joy as a Los Angeles Lakers Die Hard.
Pistons fan here. But I’ll watch this series. First episode was good. And the pistons will have their day in the show as they ended both the Celtics and Lakers dynasties of the 80s. 😀

Kareem had one heck of a Retirement Season that year as it was turned into a tour where every team he visited had a ceremony in his honor along with gifts he was receiving along the way. After the Pistons swept out the Lakers in the 1989 Finals(The beat Portland the following year), the Lakers came back to the Finals for one last hurrah before “His Airness” and company quickly squashed them. After Magic made it public that he contracted HIV Before the 1991-92 Season, that’s when the Lakers went down.
There’s no franchise in the NBA like the Lakers. Some franchises are lucky to have had one dynasty (90’s Bulls, 60’s Celtics, 2000’s spurs, current Warriors) the lakers have had 3 (49-54, 79-91, 99-11) hard to replicate greatness.
One of the best shows of all time up there with Seinfeld and Stranger Things. But the actor that they made play Jerry West in my opinion, is the best part of the show

This show kinda of put it in perspective though. Jerry West was violent, aggressive and a drunk. Just wow, things we didn’t know about him… Hopefully HBO makes a series about the Chicago Bulls and their dynasty. What a watch that would be.

Or maybe we start a new one...We're making a trade with Charlotte for their draft pick. They'll make the pick for us, but we told them who we want them to pick. Jeanie: Who are we picking? Jerry: (gives a knowing smile) Who do you think we're picking? (Jeanie gives a similar knowing smile back. The scene cuts to Jerry West at a podium with a new young player. The player, face not shown, holds up his Lakers jersey, and the camera stops at the number on the jersey: 8.) (Cut to black)
Unfortunately, we got a glimpse at what might be the final scene in this series at the very beginning when a bow 32 year old Magic is in a doctors office and leaves and we see his agent cry.
Anybody know if this like the Bulls w/Final Dance will end up on Netflix or TH-cam for free? I"d love to see it be don't exactly have the money to pay extra for HBO right now? I know Final Dance was an ESPN 30 for 30 that worked w/Netflix to make it a limited series?

@@mikecotto1167Ya but Birds Celtics is far more dynastic and famous than Bill Russell’s. It’s also a much better story since there’s more than only a couple good teams in the league.
@@Dante-mw2ez not exactly. You have to think about what that Celtics team endured. Remember, there was heavy racism during that era as well as segregation. Most of the team couldn’t eat in alot of places and even the great Bill Russell was treated as a lower class citizen in his own town. There’s a lot to tell about that team in a series. A lot of hardships they endured that players today can’t even imagine.

I was the biggest Magic and Laker fan and absolutely loved Showtime Lakers. After 1.5 episodes, I'm done. In the early 80s, nobody spoke the way Magic speaks in this lazily written trash. The writers and directors have zero respect for the people this is based on and even less respect for the audience. 👎👎

Give it time. At least they have Michael chickis as Red already cast. However, I wouldn’t do the 80’s Celtics, I’d do the 57-69 dynasty.
