Great video, really illustrates the sound. I like that the only change was the mode (ie not instrumentation, tone, rhythm, etc) so you could hear the comparison
Whenever there was an F or D in the melody the backing chord was B-flat major. But you're right - if the backing was only bass notes you could alternate between C and G and nobody would have any idea you were using C mixolydian.
yes, that's right, since the melody has no 7th, the only (pretty subtle) difference is in the harmony. this isn't a good melody for showcasing mixolydian ... but it works well for the other modes.
The chords were different, but only when the melody descends. The dominant chord beneath the Fs and Ds of the melody were minor when they would have been major in Ionian
Phrygian = boldness, exuberance, and passion, courage, leadership, in excess promotes pride, rashness, irritability, and violent anger. Lydian = good cheer, optimism, friendliness, laughter, love, and song. Dorian = sleepiness, lethargy, laziness, slowness, mental dullness, and forgetfulness, calmness, internal equanimity and well being. Mixolydian = solidity, firmness, and steadfastness, but also a certain indolence and tenacity.

I'm not feeling so good … is it too late to deal with this? Lydian: Ah man, this weird stardust I just snorted makes me feel better. I'm still a little paranoid, but I'll get back to these fateful stars tomorrow. Mixolydian: Ah you know what, maybe I can live with this damning prophecy. The stardust maybe fixed my date with a dark fate. *DRUID* shakes his head. Aeolian: Fuck man, the stardust's wearing off. And that huge red star is so big right now, I. Uh oh… *DRUID can be seen running for the hills*. Locrian: An evil grinning face slowly starts to materialise on the demonic red star.
In Greek music that keeps a number of these modes still the melody develops within a fourth and next in the second fourth, the mode is considered to be made of 2 tetrachords. Even a song in Ionian or C maj developed as said will sound different from a Western song. There are over 40 modes in modern Greek music, several tens in Arabic music and about 118 in Ottoman music still practiced as Turkish clsssical music. The modulations possible are very many[ cycle of fifths is just a 2 modes modulation]. Modulation in eastern music is using common tetrachords not Chords like in jazz that uses about 8 modes.
