Using wire crab traps to catch blue crabs in the St Johns River. If you need crab traps contact Wishard Wire Co. located in St. Augustine Florida 904-615-4180
im moving bk to florida after being gone for over 30 years, going bk to panama city where i grew up, love your videos and all your content, and hopefully one day in the travels in the near future we can meet. thanks for all you do
I used to use traps when they cost 15 dollars. Now they are closer to 50 each. Used to lose a lot of crabs to thieves, and sometimes the whole trap. Resorted to tying a concrete block between trap and float. Thieves hate work. Solved my problem.
The Crystal river crabs , I commented I would have liked to see you clean the crabs before cooking. The very next video I watched was St. John's river crabbing, and you showed how to clean the crabs L O L WE'RE GOOD ! Thank You !
I literally love your videos they are so informative!! I have been binge watching them last couple days lol! Keep them coming your going to have a great channel (: Edit to add I like that you go through the steps multiple times and calmly it really makes you think you can go out as a first time crabber and look like a pro lol
Please try toadfish or just regular . They're called stainless steel seafood fork picks, for blue crabs. They get the meat out of the blue crab body effortlessly so great. Don't every swallow the tiny fiber like shell inbody. No more long time getting that good meat.
Great crab 🦀 video welcome to South Carolina that's where I'm from you may need to come down to Santee South Carolina we have some fat catfish and more great family vacation
When I was a boy growing up in Maryland we went crabbing just about every weekend during season, either to the Chesapeake bay or Annapolis on the Severn river . Towards the end of summer ,early Fall you could catch them mating on top with a net , scoop them up and throw the female back. Females weren't legal , but you were allowed a bushel per boat , and if we didn't catch a bushel we'd sop on the way home up Rt 4 ( turns into Pennsylvania Ave) and a bushel at Jimmy's Crab House was $15 , which was probably like $300 todays money . Crab feasts were a big part of Summer and were excellent fund raisers for charities Nowadays a 1/2 bushel 3-4 dozen ) shipped from Maryland is like $250. I want some so bad but I just can't pay those prices , so when I see you guys out on the water catching crabs and having a blast doing it , reminds me of good times growing up, and makes me want to get out there and catch some of my own. Appreciate you sharing this with us . A lot of people don't know that you are not supposed to cook dead crabs , and that it can make you deathly ill . Even TH-camrs like DMFD and BlueGabe don't know this . ONLY cook live crabs , something I learned as a boy . Steamed in beer and covered with Old Bay is the only way . From Google : You should not cook or eat a dead blue crab. Once a crab dies, bacteria takes the opportunity to spread and make its meat mushy and flavorless. Not only does it taste terrible, it can make people sick. It's best to avoid eating dead crabs.
Wow I'm impressed on the crabs you caught. Great soak. First time on your channel. What part of the Saint John's are you in. Looks like Sanford area. We use to live in winter garden but now we're on the west coast. I'm looking to purchase some crab traps and do a little more crabbing myself. Nice video. Going to check out your other video's. I just subscribed. Tight lines .........
That’s awesome. I’ve never done that before but would like to. Have a few questions. How do you know/remember where you put your traps and/or do they move? Next are you ever afraid someone may take them? I know these may be stupid questions but I’m a newbie who loves crabs and want to try to go crabbing for my own. 😊
We had traps when I was a boy that were square and when the trap hit the bottom the 4 sides flattened out . Crab crawls in to eat the bait , chicken necks aged a little in the sun work best. and after a few minutes you'd pull the rope up , 4 sides would close up and if you had any crabs in it they weren't getting out until you got the trap in the boat and opened it up again .. This way you could fish and crab at the same time, check the traps every 5 or ten minutes . You should also research trot lines on TH-cam . Catch lots of crabs fast without the worry of someone stealing from your traps .
I hate them! I think it’s a tax on recreational fish man! Traps are expensive enough as it is and hard to maintain. Commercial traps do not have the same requirements which is BS!
@@TugTrashOutdoors agreed. I’m like ppl don’t even make them in regs right now from what I’ve seen. So trap and risk it or not. I’m going in the boat to force them jokers to work to catch me. Get wet homeboy

I mark them on my gps. Yes sometimes traps will get dragged a bit.
