Thanks for the review. I usually don't comment but you are putting a lot of effort into reviewing the songs for us and your students I am compelled to write this.
I will advise you to go through the magical journey of these songs before reviewing them as some of the experiments are done on purpose. I am a musician myself and it took me a while to accept that coke studio's vision and imagination actually starts way above where my imagination ends.
It's a different art all together and we may call it visual music which makes the viewer not only listen to the music but also enables the viewer to visualize the music and it's creative imagination. It's not a classic run of the mill music which conforms to specific guidelines and rules. They bend the rules or even make new rules. If you listen to Mehram you will realize how they used the instruments tones notes and chords to create such a musical environment which completely takes over your mind and heart. It hits you so hard even if you are not familiar with music. You will feel the pain of the lyrics in the music too.
Those notes and chords are so deep and gloomy that they completely support the song's theme and idea making it even more powerful. Aadat is totally different. Kana Yari has a totally different vibe
I hope this comment will help you in your reviewing process and your students too to appreciate that in making revolutionary music you have to think out of the box and break traditionally taught boundaries
