They didn't lose because they missed FTs. It certainly didn't help, but it wasn't why. Does anyone remember UCLA missing four straight down the stretch. They led from the first minute until the end and without their best player Tyler Bilodeau. So you can't say USC should have won. It was a good competitive game which UCLA led for 59 minutes. They did make a great comeback and COULD have won it but two missed FTs and a ridiculous 3 by Mack ended it. Instead of up 1, now down 4 with 35 seconds left and the UCLA made their FTs to ice it.But USC has two great road wins (Illinois and Nebraska) which UCLA doesn't, so we'll see how it plays out. But gotta start winning at home! Oregon, Wisconsin, UCLA and one other. That will hurt you if they miss out on the tournament..
11-19 from the charity stripe, and they missed 5-7 down the stretch. It's not THE reason, but it's a BIG reason why. Don't take my word for it; Coach Muss pretty much said it, too.
@@LockedOnUSC You can always point to bad FT %, but you have to be in position in the first place so that can't hurt you. we were good in the paint but we let them drain more 3's. and didn't rebound which is my biggest gripe - always is. We must be more physical. What happened to the good ol days of having multiple guys with double-doubles, or even triple-doubles? The friggen refs will always screw us. It's their culture. Remember that's what ended up being the demise of Henry Bibby.

Marc I am glad you are not a mindless homer like many expect. In fact I don't post on WeAreSC much anymore because they attack people who bring honest analysis there. Analysts aren't fans first. And of course we have standards - at least we used to - and know how to succeed. You were right Marc, we aren't very good this year. BUT, I still think Musselman will be better than Enfield at some point. I'm tired of being impatient. We suck in so many venues now and I don't think the Admin really cares as long as they throw money at the problems - and that's all sports. And those same stupid people think we are going too become Stanford. I've had it. I once had high hopes and expectations, but we are not the squad from Bibby's time or even Floyd's time [last time I was a donor]. Do we even know how to improve?
I think Chad will take a lot of pressure off of LR and now he can focus on just football. Butt LR will still have a stressful job don't get me wrong. Butt there's a reason why Jen Cohen went and got him. The ND coach said Chad was EXTREMELY helpful in getting them to the National Championship! Thank goodness they lost! Yes Schrader's just too negative and triggers me! Just kidding, I read his column and I think he's basically correct in the long run, but not sure it's next season or bust. They've just spent a lot of money and made some major changes and I'm not sure Jenn Cohen expects it to bring a play-off contender right away. But she can't wait forever either. Also you are asking good questions about the program and LR. I didn't mean to sound so negative on commenting on your perceived negativity, I'm sarcastic too soI thought you would appreciate it, but I can own my snark, apologize for it and move on. At the end of the day, It's just how one evaluates progress, I'm not sure that means next year or bust. We disagree on that. That's not so bad. About Cohen making the call to hire a GM? Could very well be. She's a very smart and capable AD. You are right that Riley and staff have not nurtured relations with So-Cal High Schools or that is at least the perception backed up by reported comments from local coaches. That seems to have changed for 2026. A smart coach and AD realize the faults and make correctives, and that is exactly what they are and have been doing since last year. Hiring the new GM just puts another tool in the toolbox. So the only thing left to do is keep working and start winning those crazy close games they lost last year. I don't think the new hire is a savior, but he could be a key ingredient. A savior would be a healthy Eric Gentry, another top notch LB or 2, a jelled O line and for our QB to take the next step. We might then start to see some of our players making these to 25 lists. Really, I hope everyone under estimates this team, they could be very surprised.
