Another great video, thanks Nyssa. The roast pork looks wonderful - great idea to put the pork rind strips over the potatoes. Yes, you're right about the pastitsio being a Greek dish. I was shown this recipe many years ago by a friend's mum & I think it's just as tasty (& easier) than lasagne. The best part was the geese perfectly timing their return stroll while you were winding up your chat!

Unfortunately D is in Brisbane today picking up the last of the construction materials on a car trailer and it is bucketing! no rain here yet, but it is moving this direction, we shall see, it has a tendency to peter out before it gets to us we're just that little bit too far inland.
The Pasta dish is Greek pastizio, and is made many different ways all over Greece, doesn't matter so long as its yum, feeds the family, and I think i should also do big batch and have it ready to go when the families visit. Loved seeing the geese walk by, i don't own a thermal mix, it is interesting to me, because if im correct it saves standing over a pot, continuously mixing? Corn cob gadgets are not worth it, mine broke first use, however i have taken note of your method, so ill be giving that idea ago, 😉 watching from central Victoria 👍🏻😎❤
Everyone loves it, so its a big hit :D Yes, basically the Thermomix is a Thermal cooker, it has blades that spin in the bowl while it heats, there's lots of other functions, but for things like white sauces and custards you just throw everything in and turn it on and wah lah, 10mins later you have a cooked dish, it is my sous chef lol, a lot of people can make whole meals and stuff in it too, with our limited power and larger family it doesn't work so well for me like that, but I love all the hands off prep and cooking it can do :D
They don't wander near me that often, not without hissing and getting a bit aggressive anyway lol (They don't attack but they let you know they'd prefer you to be elsewhere lol)
Hehe, they're so noisy at times, but I love the noise of all the animals around here! One day! It will be a big project I think! It will make a tasty stock eventually! :D
just an FYI, ive watched a video on castor oil on YT and they said if you put some on a bump, lump, scar and other things, it can help to get rid of it. i have a bump on my face and im trying it. could take a year but im willing to do it if it works. its organic and cant hurt to try
Great video - many thanks. Love the look of patitsio- I must try it. And the geese! Took me right back to my childhood and our noisy flock. My mum would use goose eggs in baking. And we ate a goose at new year, Easter and Christmas.
It is such a simple dish but super tasty! We haven't tried any goose eggs as yet, they laid a clutch and hatched 10 babies, but only one survived, we left her eggs alone though because we found them quite a while after being laid. We'll see how they do this year!
@@OurSmallFootprint re goose eggs, my Mother would sneak to the nest and mark the eggs as they appeared, in order to ascertain the newly laid ones. We were lucky in NZ with no predators and they bred prolifically.
Great idea for seasoning corn, lightly roasting and freezing, love it, Also for the use of cobs making a “corn broth” so much flavour… thanks Nyssa, love watching the ducks. One channel I watch gets the newest released video the night before being realesed in the a.m. plus some channels have an Amazon wish list, is this something you’ve thought of? Can be anything from cooking tools, gardening implements, socks, books etc
I am so slack with getting videos out currently that I could never consistently get them out 'early' for people lol, maybe if I can get my schedule worked out better now that I'm focusing on it a little more! I do have an amazon wish list set up, but I just struggle to put things on there and share, because as much as i thoroughly appreciate any and all gifts sent! I don't want to feel like I'm 'asking' if that makes sense, I know, silly! :D
@@OurSmallFootprint just a thought if you were thinking patreon, I know how hard it is to stick to any schedule 🤪 believe me. And I don’t see any wish list, and your not asking, I asked you, as I assume others Will/would as well, and it would be up to me to choose what I can afford to purchase, where as sending from Canada is a whole other story.
As always your food 🥘 looks amazing 🤩. Just wanted to say that I have been watching the commercials and I hope that helps you out! I try to make comments, but sometimes my fingers are too stiff to type, so that’s why I leave a lot of ❤❤❤. Can’t wait to see the buildings 😊
If you do decide to get containers for freezer use, get square ones. The inside of the freezer is square and you lose space using round ones. I updated all of mine and it was remarkable how much more stuff I can shove in my freezer
I was looking at a bunch of options on Amazon, trying to decide what would work, and if it is worthwhile atm, or if I'm better off sticking to the zip locs for the moment! I hate that they aren't always reuseable when using a wet product in them though, they tend to split while defrosting and stuff.
I use small cardboard boxes in my chest freezer each one has its own category like ground beef chicken pork snacks and I can stack them two deep it's a small freezer so about six boxes
Did you have to prep the corn? (Don't take that seriously please). It gave me the midnight munchies, at 9:30pm, so I had to cook up a corn cob. Yes, I really did enjoy it. I bought a corn stripper, from Mitre10, when we moved to this town. How often have I used it? Only for 1 corn growing season. It's still in my kitchen utensil drawer. What do we do with leftover spag bog sauce? Use it in baked potatoes, either regular white or sweet potato.
Hello an wow i love corn on the cob too. An i would have just chuckd out the cobs to the chickens an pigs an not thought about making a corn chowder.... Make the broth with them. ❤ Thanks. 😂 An i make alot of my own broths for my soups.
The chooks/pigs will still get them in the end hehe, maybe not much nutrient left, but a fun to eat treat anyway hehe, I love the flavour of corn in soups!
I like the sound of the flavoured corn on tacos or as a lift to garnish a meal. Ive had to let a few bargains of cheap veg and fruit go lately. Such a shame. Everything looks delicious as usual. I nlanch corn , i dont blanch everything but some veg just are better blanched anyway before freezing. I love the idea of doing like a farm journal behind patreon or sneak peek at a recipe you're working on or project. Love your work , thanks for sharing lovely ❤❤
I love the burst of flavour that corn can give meals, and with that bit of seasoning and charring, its super yummy hehe! Corn has to be one of my fave vegetables I reckon! :D. I don't think I've tried freezing it without blanching to be honest, but I know a lot of people do!
definitely, I just love those moments of watching homestead animals being curious and just pottering around living their happy lives. @@OurSmallFootprint
I like to put raisons and glacé cherries in my banana bread. Also in the last video you mentioned left over corn flakes have a look at cornflack shortcake it's short bread with jam and cornflakes with I thikk golden syrup and in England it's served to kids in schools for pudding also there's something called KFC chicken which is like fryed chicken but it's covered in cornflakes and is really crispy and you can add a load of spices as well. Love your videos although I'm missing hearing the turkey in the background 😂
The kids are not super keen on fruit in baked goods, even though they'll sit there and hoover a bag of sultanas together in a day! lol. I will look up the shortcake recipe! I did crumb some chicken with it recently lol, and there is plain cornflake cookies too, Sonnet made some of them while I was on my last shopping trip!
I think its just a kmart cheapie, it has a bowl that it fits inside perfectly! :D. The handle can get a little flimsy if it gets too warm, but its pretty neat.
@@annea7526 I got Surreal to take the washing off the line, but a lot of the time we're just that bit too far inland and it peters out before it gets to us! We'll see! :D. Tanks are pretty empty it would be handy! :D

@@Whimsy_Pose I could definitely do more Q and A/ live style thing in a bit more restricted environment than TH-cam, I really struggle with the idea of doing it 'public' on youtube
It's so good done this way for such a cheap cut of meat, though we do tend to eat more in one sitting when its roasted like this than we do if I mince it or something else.
bakes with banana are always so moist and flavourful! I must admit I'm a bit sick of dealing with bananas atm, but I will thoroughly appreciate having them in the freezer in winter when they are 5 x the price!
I love the flavour it imparts! There's plenty of 'kernel juice' left in that cob so it creates that sweet slightly corn flavour in the stock, and nothing beats a corn chowder hehe :D
Nyssa I've had same problem. Low freezer space but have several things I like better frozen, and not sure what kind of containers to get. I hate regret!! I did buy some of those reusable silicone zip lock bags and love them.
I've had some of those reusable silicone ones too! My biggest issue is storage, though I do find cleaning them and sticking them back in the freezer clean is a good way, but we tried putting them in the tupperware/pantry cupboard and with our weather I think they sweat and if there's even a tiny bit of food left in them then they mould... :S
Hi Nyssa! Just wondering what brand your vac sealer is? My old one is on the way out, and I'm on the hunt for a new one. Would you recommend the one you have?
It’s just an Aldi one, it has served me well, but it does irritate me that sometimes I have to stop to let it cool before sealing the next bag, I’ve been eyeing off the Luvele one seeing as I love their other stuff so much, it is advertised no wait between sealing which appeals!
We definitely reduce meat eaten and replace it with cheaper alternatives, more rice and pasta and veggies etc :). But our portions are fairly controlled already, everything done by weight to make sure we stretch what we have :).
Good morning Nyssa . How are you 😊 . I haven’t been much on your channel as i have been busy . You are amazing I don’t know how you do it but my goodness you cooking a storm in your kitchen 😂 . Plsssssssss can you make a recipe book 📕 and i will definitely buy . Hope you and family keeping well. Much love from Melbourne….
I did make some banana muffins afterwards in muffin tins and have been making some for the kids regularly hehe! I just hate cleaning muffin tins lol! I did find some compostable liners though! So now they can toss them in the compost which makes me feel better and I don’t have to scrub the pans :)
Victorinox! They are awesome, I actually got some free for showing them off in video quite a while back and the ones I've bought since then I've gone for the same style, I even bought one in that brand for our chicken processing! I do have the victorinox sharpener as well, just the small hand held one so that I can use it out when we're processing the chickens every food birds, and I use it probably once a week in the house too.
I think the Patreon idea is good. It will be a separate income stream from TH-cam which could be valuable if anything weird happens with YT. And I believe that people would like to be recipe testers (and early recipe recipients) as their "extra" that they are getting. Maybe you could do one of your Sunday chats each month as a "live" for Patreon members to participate in, then you could upload it to TH-cam later for the rest of your fans. Double dip that income and work smart! 😉 PS - Patreon members could name some of your new animals too! 🤣
I don't believe you have shown all the animals lately and I do enjoy seeing them, too. Maybe you could fit them in a video. The banana bread looks so good!!!!
We're working on fixing up the roofing on the chicken pens atm, the netting has proven to not be enough to keep the goanna's out! We need to run aviary mesh there too unfortunately! So will update as we go forward with that, I think the animals get cared for over summer but not much progress! we are getting some female piglets prob next month though! :D
Yes, though I did make a really nice banana muffin the other day too (future video) which I'm really happy with, I've been working on reducing some of the more expensive ingredients, so used my coconut milk powder (that I bought in bulk and have a 15kg bag of) in the dry mix instead of using tin coconut cream, and making it so the dry mix is pre mixed for Sonnet to be able to just add dry to wet and then her mix in (banana/apple/etc) and cook them off! So that might be the new normal soon!
Have you thought about doing the buy me a kofi thing to supplement your grocery budget? I know your concerned about giving good value but having a bit extra in the food budget will mean being able to produce the content and maybe allow for experimental recipes with new to you ingredients. This would then free up your grocery budget for reallocation. A lot of vloggers have separate budgets for food video production as it's a legitimate business expense of you're a cooking channel . I love your videos and hate to see you struggle ,I'm sure I'm not alone and those few dollars each really add up
Patron of you making a recipe from beginning to end like you did in the beginning would be great ... food prices are so high we are all learning new ways..I think it would be great. Even if it's justa beginning to end of your flat bread..
Yes, the idea was to try and get stuff going on the website with a video of just that to go with, but it would be simple to add them to patreon nice and casual like wouldn't it! :D
Do a membership for $5 a month. There is no pressure on you that way. With membership money..YT does take 30% which is wrong..but it is what it is. You will still have $3.50 for everyone who buys one each month, it can really add up.
I would like to see more of your children I don't see them very much for some reason, but I understand them wanting privacy as well. And you don't let anybody make you feel bad.
I think stick to the website and promote it on YT. Add items on your website for sale,. like your art and cook book etc. what types of jobs are you looking at now?
Admin/bookkeeping is my forte, the typing worked, I have about a 110wpm typing speed, so it was something I could get done quickly which allowed for a decent hourly rate as it was charged on a per minute of audio basis, not much else will I be able to do that. Darryl can get more work for his converting though, and some of that is pretty strictly data entry, so maybe that is the way forward, I do the data entry aspects of that to speed up his workflow :D
I'm watching your why we moved off grid and how things went Q&A basically I've been watching you for a long time I don't comment but I do wonder if you chose to move off grid and kinda want to be away from the world why in the heck, would you want to do social media?? People say that all the time that they're mental they need to live out in the boonies. They want to be off grid but they're on social media which is terrible for your mental health. I do enjoy watching you and I will never be negative and I don't judge I just wonder.
Community is nice, whether online or in person, meeting like minded people and I’m thick skinned so I don’t take the negative to heart :). But it’s also an income I can make without leaving my property, it allows me to put more time into being out here by working from here too :)
The ads are what actually 'pay' me, the advertisers pay TH-cam and then we get a portion of that advertising fee, however, views and comments etc bumps the channel into the front page/watch nexts of other people, which can widen the audience and allow more people who might be interested in seeing the channel, which increases its 'earning potential' So everything helps in the end! Thumbs ups, comments, watching (with or without ads, I must admit sometimes I don't even think about it and I skip ads when watching other channels!)

As always...delicious food. Love the geese. Have to say, your hair is absolutely gorgeous 😊
I don't tend to wear it down much in summer/at home! But I spent the day inside doing admin type stuff!
Yum, I love roast pork dinner. Looking forward to the buildings going up.
It is one of our fave ways to have that pork, although we tend to eat more in one sitting when its cooked that way lol.
Another great video Nyssa!! Thank you for all your recipes and explanations!!❤❤
Thank you Shirley :D
The Pasta dish is Greek pastizio, and is made many different ways all over Greece, doesn't matter so long as its yum, feeds the family, and I think i should also do big batch and have it ready to go when the families visit. Loved seeing the geese walk by, i don't own a thermal mix, it is interesting to me, because if im correct it saves standing over a pot, continuously mixing? Corn cob gadgets are not worth it, mine broke first use, however i have taken note of your method, so ill be giving that idea ago, 😉 watching from central Victoria 👍🏻😎❤
Everyone loves it, so its a big hit :D
Yes, basically the Thermomix is a Thermal cooker, it has blades that spin in the bowl while it heats, there's lots of other functions, but for things like white sauces and custards you just throw everything in and turn it on and wah lah, 10mins later you have a cooked dish, it is my sous chef lol, a lot of people can make whole meals and stuff in it too, with our limited power and larger family it doesn't work so well for me like that, but I love all the hands off prep and cooking it can do :D
awwwwww, the geese are gorgeous. What a precious bunch (gaggle)
The geese are so lovely to watch graceful and yet awkward, its a weird mix!
That roast looked absolutely delicious Nyssa.
It is such a nice way to eat it!
Thank you for another great video, l ways happy watch your video’s
Thank you! :D
Wonderful video , and your hair is beautiful
Thank you! :D
Loved this! The geese were a treat!
They don't wander near me that often, not without hissing and getting a bit aggressive anyway lol (They don't attack but they let you know they'd prefer you to be elsewhere lol)
@@OurSmallFootprint when I was a kid we had a goose that hissed and then chased me lol they’re still beautiful to see! Thank you for replying.
I love the geese! 😂 I am looking forward to your recipes in a book someday. I love your creativity with the corn cobs for future use!! ❤
Hehe, they're so noisy at times, but I love the noise of all the animals around here!
One day! It will be a big project I think!
It will make a tasty stock eventually! :D
@@OurSmallFootprint 😂 yes!!
just an FYI, ive watched a video on castor oil on YT and they said if you put some on a bump, lump, scar and other things, it can help to get rid of it. i have a bump on my face and im trying it. could take a year but im willing to do it if it works. its organic and cant hurt to try
Interesting! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks
Thank you! :D
@@merinzz last year was our first year with them! So we were still learning about them, I’m hoping we can catch the nest earlier this year!
Have you ever used sliced banana bread to make French toast, it's very good
I haven't! I will definitely have to try that... that sounds delish!
Great video. I cut my corn the same way; love the prep for the cobs to use for chowder.
I can't remember where I saw it whenever I did, but it works so well! :D
OMG! THAT ROAST! I wanted to jump through the television.. looked so very tasty🎉
Its such a great way to cook it, it works so well, fall apart, super tasty!
Thank you Mary, for anything and everything you do to help :D. Each and every one of you are so appreciated! :D
@@debbieframpton3857 I have plastic crates for sorting but it’s more for the wet foods I’m looking at, like bolognese :)
I adore corn in all ways! :D. Yes, I need to do some loaded baked potatoes!
Hi Nyssa, Love seeing the geese!
I see them walk past the back door all the time and enjoy them wandering, so I thought you guys might like it too hehe! :D
definitely, I just love those moments of watching homestead animals being curious and just pottering around living their happy lives.
Nyssa, good luck on the construction, will be praying for your job situation. Cindi
Thank you Cindi! :D
Everything looked delicious 😊!! Neat colander you used to strain the corn, never saw one like that before!
I think its just a kmart cheapie, it has a bowl that it fits inside perfectly! :D. The handle can get a little flimsy if it gets too warm, but its pretty neat.
Morning Nyssa.. loving the rain this morning 😊 break from the heat.
Not quite raining here, but pleasantly overcast! Just so long as it doesn't get muggy with no rain :S
It’s bucketing down here Nyssa and it’s heading west.
@@annea7526 I got Surreal to take the washing off the line, but a lot of the time we're just that bit too far inland and it peters out before it gets to us! We'll see! :D. Tanks are pretty empty it would be handy! :D
Nyssa u make everything look good .please try to find the time to work on a cook book i will absolutely buy one❤
I will work on it! I do love the idea of it! Will be a labour of love I think, slow and steady :D
Do you just put the cobs in the soup while it's cooking, and then remove?
An idea for Patreon is writing what you do around the farm each day, that can read when cannot watch videos :)
A bit more of the personal side of things, yes, perhaps that is a point too :D
Or/and recipes include tips and tricks for cooking your style on BBQ...a lot of people wouldn't think to make a lot of what you do On a bbq. Face time to discuss the test recipes as a group
@@Whimsy_Pose I could definitely do more Q and A/ live style thing in a bit more restricted environment than TH-cam, I really struggle with the idea of doing it 'public' on youtube
@@OurSmallFootprint totally understand, your braver than I am 😄
I love your hair. It's so pretty.
Thank you! :). I don't wear it down much in the heat, but once its beanie weather I tend to! :D.
Feedback on the website, I love the layout, very easy to navigate and easy to read :)
Thank you! :D. I'm fiddling on the back end, trying to get it exactly how I want it, its so time consuming to tweak!
That pork looked amazing
It's so good done this way for such a cheap cut of meat, though we do tend to eat more in one sitting when its roasted like this than we do if I mince it or something else.
I do enjoy your videos this month. is g banana looked great
bakes with banana are always so moist and flavourful! I must admit I'm a bit sick of dealing with bananas atm, but I will thoroughly appreciate having them in the freezer in winter when they are 5 x the price!
Wow i didnt knos u could use the vobs like that for soup .ill be trying thst
I love the flavour it imparts! There's plenty of 'kernel juice' left in that cob so it creates that sweet slightly corn flavour in the stock, and nothing beats a corn chowder hehe :D
Yes thats for sure
Is it possible to cut back on some of your portion sizes just so it stretches your food budget with your income loss
Morning! :D. It's a bit cooler today which is nice! :D. Hehe, its in the plans, but it just might take me a while to get it all sorted!
@@OurSmallFootprint yes Nyssa bit cool here too . Later will get warmer once the sun is out :) . Have a great day ….
Make the banana bread or other breads in muffin pans. Cook time is less and easy to serve up.🧡💙🩷❤️💚🦋🦋🦋
I did make some banana muffins afterwards in muffin tins and have been making some for the kids regularly hehe! I just hate cleaning muffin tins lol! I did find some compostable liners though! So now they can toss them in the compost which makes me feel better and I don’t have to scrub the pans :)
What kind of knives do you have, they seem extremely sharp and useful?
I started watching your video, then stopped went and made 2 loafs of banana bread , now i am back to finish your video, lol
Hehe, glad I could be your motivation lol! :D.
Always yummy
I think the Patreon idea is good. It will be a separate income stream from TH-cam which could be valuable if anything weird happens with YT. And I believe that people would like to be recipe testers (and early recipe recipients) as their "extra" that they are getting. Maybe you could do one of your Sunday chats each month as a "live" for Patreon members to participate in, then you could upload it to TH-cam later for the rest of your fans. Double dip that income and work smart! 😉 PS - Patreon members could name some of your new animals too! 🤣
Yes, I think sometimes breaking away from just TH-cam is a great idea, though I know some people don't like swapping platforms either!
If you like peanut butter, I add chunky peanut butter to my banana bread
Oooh, the kids would like that I reckon!
Or turn them into muffin pans
Yes, though I did make a really nice banana muffin the other day too (future video) which I'm really happy with, I've been working on reducing some of the more expensive ingredients, so used my coconut milk powder (that I bought in bulk and have a 15kg bag of) in the dry mix instead of using tin coconut cream, and making it so the dry mix is pre mixed for Sonnet to be able to just add dry to wet and then her mix in (banana/apple/etc) and cook them off! So that might be the new normal soon!
Sounds good
Have you thought about doing the buy me a kofi thing to supplement your grocery budget? I know your concerned about giving good value but having a bit extra in the food budget will mean being able to produce the content and maybe allow for experimental recipes with new to you ingredients. This would then free up your grocery budget for reallocation. A lot of vloggers have separate budgets for food video production as it's a legitimate business expense of you're a cooking channel .
I love your videos and hate to see you struggle ,I'm sure I'm not alone and those few dollars each really add up
They say never work with children or animals LOL. There's always someone that wants to be the star of the show LOL
Lol, I think that's the first time the geese have ventured in shot, they're normally avoiding me! but at least they weren't hissing at me :D
Patron of you making a recipe from beginning to end like you did in the beginning would be great
... food prices are so high we are all learning new ways..I think it would be great. Even if it's justa beginning to end of your flat bread..
Yes, the idea was to try and get stuff going on the website with a video of just that to go with, but it would be simple to add them to patreon nice and casual like wouldn't it! :D
@@OurSmallFootprint I think people would love it
Do a membership for $5 a month. There is no pressure on you that way. With membership money..YT does take 30% which is wrong..but it is what it is. You will still have $3.50 for everyone who buys one each month, it can really add up.
I just hate the idea of 'charging' for something and not giving back in some way :)

The geese decided to photo bomb you
Great food!! As usual
I don't really know how getting paid thru yuotube works..is it views, likes, comments?? Please let me know.
Love your channel but now way to many ads
I haven't changed anything on my end, so I assume its a TH-cam thing :). Not much I can do about it, sorry :)
