    Your bench looks like my kitchen when I am done with cooking. My son often walks into his kitchen after I have cooked his family a meal and says "I can see Mom cooked today".

    I make overnight oats for my daughter and I and my basic recipe is simple.
    2/3 cup rolled oats
    1 cup milk or milk substitute
    1-2 tsp chia seeds
    A pinch of salt
    3-4 tsp of sweetners (for my daughter, I use a combination of brown sugar and maple syrup, for myself I use a non calorie sweetener with a couple of drops of maple extract)
    I add 1/4-1/2 cup of any dried fruit as well.
    I stir everything thoroughly and they can stay in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
    We've added peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, chocolate chips, cocoa, coconut, cinnamon, and a bunch of other stuff. Your only limit is your imagination. But the basic recipe stays the same. If you like it less loose, use equal parts oats and milk.
    My daughter calls it her dessert for breakfast. And she's not totally wrong. 😁

    Hi Nyssa, your mid summer temperatures would melt me into a greasy spot on the floor lol I admire all you Aussies that cope with such terrific heat, I don't know how you do it because I certainly couldn't. I can't cope with our little heatwaves here in Scotland when it gets above 20* C lol

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      We've definitely acclimated to it in comparison to when we first moved out here, the first couple of summers were a lot harder to tolerate and yet my weather station seems to say they were much the same temperatures, but I just think as time has gone on we've gotten more used to it, learned more limits to and allowed ourselves to take the time out we need to get through, its still frustrating though! :D

    I blend silken tofu with melted choc and it makes a mousse that makes a great topping and you can add flavours to your taste and it's made in moments it's also high protein.

    So tasty thanks for the better you recipes. I don't do overnight oats...it ferments..so I'll mix and cook Add the extra stuff..
    My breakfast
    Peanut butter dark chocolate protein bar 190 calories
    Milk whole 1 cup- 149 calories banana medium 105 calories
    Cane sugar 2 tbs for large coffee 90 calories- I'm breaking the fake sugar...going back to honey, cane sugar only. So I have to watch it..
    Already 534 out of my 1150 total. Gonna eat citrus, beer battered fish, romaine salad with tiny cheese bits & Granny Smith apple bits and cottage cheese with 🍍 pineapple tidbits to round out my day. So thanks for the recipe ideas. Keep them coming. Anything with a cottage cheese, cream cheese, chocolate, coffee, or strawberry lol. I'll try.

    Not a fan of porridge even in winter but your oats look lovely. I know my sister would love them.

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Neither am I, I like granola and I don't mind like oatmeal biscuits, but porridge isn't really my thing, and the kids aren't fans of cold porridge, so I thought this might work because its creamy rather than the texture of oats, everyone seemed to like it, so I'll experiment with some flavours and maybe even soak the oats a bit first to get them smoother!

      Have you ever made cashew butter

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      We manage to consume nearly all our eggs, we sometimes barter with a neighbour who has far less chooks than us :D she lets us use her bore for water :D. But generally, if we get a lot we make food to use them up or we use them as animal feed :D
      I love roasted cashew butter, its great for thickening things up, we actually use it in our butter chicken that I can, because its quite thin when canned, when we reheat it we use some cashew meal/butter to thicken it! :D

    Very interesting and creative how you come up with recipes. Please don't start creating recipes/food neatly. I would struggle to keep everything "neat." If I don't have some messes, food could be boring.😊

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Hehe, I was saying to someone else that the biggest issue I have is that I don't have the time or food to waste getting things perfect before filming, and the kids like variety as much as me too, so I don't always make the same thing over and over again quickly which is what I'd need to do to be able to have a clear/concise video of making something! So you get real time and all its messy hehe.

      Do the kids put milk into the oats?

    • @OurSmallFootprint
      @OurSmallFootprint  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Tessie2601 no, they ate it straight out of the jars as is, it actually wasn’t as thick as I had expected, and it was creamy, I think I will bump the yoghurt ratio, or add some coconut cream as well, to make it a little more loose but they didn’t have a problem with the texture at all, which surprised me because they don’t like the overnight oats that aren’t blended.
