► About Gremlins
Gremlins is a 1984 American comedy horror film directed by Joe Dante and released by Warner Bros. The film is about a young man who receives a strange creature called a mogwai as a pet, which then spawns other creatures who transform into small, destructive, evil monsters. This story was continued with a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, released in 1990. Unlike the lighter sequel, Gremlins opts for more black comedy, balanced against a Christmastime setting. Both films were the center of large merchandising campaigns.
Steven Spielberg was the film's executive producer and the screenplay was written by Chris Columbus. The film stars Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo, the main mogwai character. Gremlins was a commercial success and received positive reviews from critics. However, the film was also heavily criticized for some of its more violent sequences. In response to this and to similar complaints about Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Spielberg suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) alter its rating system, which it did within two months of the film's release.
#gremlins #80s #readalong
I had so many of these movie read along records and cassettes as a kid in the 70s and 80s, this one included. What a time to be alive.
Holy shit! I remember this....vaguely. The chime brought it all back. When I was 4-5, I would have my grandparents put this in their record player while I followed along in the book. I couldn’t read yet, but Id play the movie in my head while I followed along.
When I was a young kid, I had a stuffed mogwai. My mom told me that I always took it everywhere with me.
Thank you for bringing back my nightmares all due to the movie and this story book😈😂, no, seriously, thank you for posting this. I miss the good old days when record players were a thing. 🖤♥️
Mr. Wing: Perhaps Someday, You May Be Ready. Until Then Gizmo The Mogwai Will Be Waiting.
3 Rules Of The Mogwai!
1: Stay Away From Bright Light, Especially Sunlight, It Will Kill Him!
2: Stay Away From Water!
3: Don't Feed Him After Midnight!
4: Don't trust chinamen.
Wow this brings back so many memories! I feel like a little kid again watching this. Thanks for the upload the Nostalgia feel! Hey guys pop it to full screen it looks like your reading and listening in digital it’s awesome!
Who else loves the gremlins movie?
Always and forever 🖤❤️
I love
Gremlins was my favorite movie
i do. Anyone who doesn't I'll beat them up.. Just kidding!
I loved it. But you must remember the rules.
1. Keep it away from bright lights.
2. Don't get it wet.
3. No matter how much it cries or begs, NEVER, NEVER feed it after midnight,
This had to be pretty traumatic when compared to the rest of a kid's read-along book collection!
I've jusy remembered kids books I had but seeing this... I think I jurassic Park may have been one of the last ones I ever got.. That was also a bit darker than the rest
It made me a man
I had the book and record. This was the frist time I got to see what a gremlin looked like. The Trailers in 1984, kept the appearance a secret. Never got to see the movie in theaters, but had to wait a bit for cable.
I had this same record & book when I was 7 thanks for posting this.
Dude you are so RAD for doing this thank you for such a core memory!
Holy crap! THis is nostalgic AF I remember this thank you!
damn this brings me back to when i was like 6 years old. this was my favorite of these
As a kid I noticed this audio book lacked the orginal music score by Goldsmith and was disappointed to hear some totally random music instead. Even the sound of the keyboard played by Gizmo has been replaced as have many sound effects. Some of the gremlin and gizmo voices are orginal but here and here these too have been replaced such as when Stripes dies or when Gizmo says "bye". The producers probably failed to get the licence to use original audio to a noticable extent.
The other books in the series (Star wars, Indiana Jones) used original audio and are labeled "story, music and photos" from the original movies while this only mentions "story and photos" from the original with "musical background".
I haven't been able to find out what music they used instead.
Wow not heard this for 39 years I still remember every word..jeez I was only 10 back then
This specific read along was pretty scary as a kid... lol
That narrator - and the sfx being pretty much dead on - made it seem a bit more darker and serious than the movie did. Imagination is wicked lol
I remember this! I had a copy way back! Last time I listening to it was Halloween 1984 (?) after we got back from trick or treating.
Gizmo is driving a car
Gizmo is wearing a santa hat.
Pencil holder is not knocking over
Stripes hair looks like a bunny
The snow turned to blue and the water is turned to green
The gremlin is hung on the fan
Kate looks like jasmine and Bailey looks like aladdin and gizmo looks like abu. Gizmo driving a pick car.
The china guys face is turned blue
Remember it like yesterday
My mom got all of these records from Hardee's. She made sure to record them to cassette so I "Wouldn't scratch the records". I wish I still had the records.
12:39 Yep, definitely a children's story. 😂
Oh the memories of my childhood!
I know someone who had a copy of this tape and book when she was a kid(I think she still has them). she wrote "peepee poopoo snorty head" on the inside of the back cover of the book and drew an arrow pointing to the Chinese man because she was mad at him for taking gizmo away from billy
Sorry for all the messages but I used to have quite a few of these that you've uploaded.
I had this one. Weird though, because the audio is different. My version had samples from the film, and different narration. The cover and pages are exactly the same. So crazy, I haven't seen this in 30 yrs, remember it all.
Thanks so much, this is great!
I am the 70th like! I like Gremlins (Both Roald Dahl's Gremlins and Stephen Spielberg's).
If They do a 3rd Movie they should do an ORIGINS. On The Mogwai
I still have a few of these. Got them from Hardee's.
Yeah,I had the record set too. That version had the actors from the movie providing the voices for the characters too, i.e. Zach Galligan as Billy, Phoebe Cates as Kate, and Hoyt Axton as Rand Pelzer. This one has Corey Burton as Billy and Tress MacNeille as Kate. I'm not sure who does the other characters though.
Had this book and the 7" record.
I had these as a kid, but I think my books were different. I wanna say I remember comic-style drawings of the movie scenes ... oh if I had them still. #antiques
You probably had the 5 book/record set from Hardee's. It added up to over an hour long.
HI ITS JAKI LOVE THIS STORY
What type of dog was Barney?
GREMLINS 40TH ANNIVERSARY.
1984-2024.
This is a kids movie?
Do you have any of the Star Wars book & tapes from the 1980's? I had all 3 back in the day and played them to death. many thanks for posting.
I know it's been 4yrs but I too had the original trilogy read along collection. We grew up really poor but my treat for christmas and my birthday were read along audio cassettes. I still have 2 of the Star Wars sets (with snapped/chewed tape) I'd love to hear some of my innocence again =)

That shit fucked me up as a kid.
nice
Narrated by:Chuck Riley
Music:Jerry Goldsmith(1984)
But Goldsmith's music isn't used here, unfortunately. I noticed this as a kid when I listened to this audio book. I had the real OST on cassette and knew the movie very well with all the dialogues and sound effects and was so disappointed about this audio book. There must have been a problem with the copyright. Not even the original audio from Gizmo playing the keyboard is heard here. The other books from this company such as Star Wars used correct music and sound effects.
Directed by:Joe Dante
@@chrismossy9774 Yeah, this instead uses the usual Disney/Vista Records read-along stock music tracks. I especially recognized the track starting at 6:49; it even got used in the later CD reissue of the "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" read-along story, playing during the scene where Snow White rushes through the woods.
@@ZakWolf I see. At least the booklet had nice photos which I cut out and used as wall paper. There are versions in various languages and I had the Swedish one. th-cam.com/video/A2NmSINRjhI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1R2MhXlZVeQZdGSw
I only realized a couple of years ago that this English version existed.
In the 80s, when my family rented moves on VHS, I used to put a cassette recorder in front of the TV-speaker and after returning the movie, I could experience it while listening to the tape. So rememeber all the lines and sound effects. And that's why I noticed that this audio book wasn't legit.
Since those movies with their audio is ingrained in my memory, I found it disappointing when George Lucas changed some sound effects in his later versions.
I also had a real Gremlins movie poster from the local cinema on my wall and even carried a gizmo doll in a small back pack as Billy did in the movie. The older kids in the neighborhood found out and stopped me on the street and forced me to show the Gizmo doll while making fun of me. I can see why they thought I was a nerd.
I want more foto in book
Who's narrating, Orson Welles lol!
What is this music? 11:35
I'm also trying to figure this out since this audio book does not use the orginal soundtrack by Goldsmith, probably due to copyright issues.
