  • In this video I go over how to make a some costume armour, specifically leather vambraces / bracers. Of course as with most of my videos I add some leather carving to them, specifically some Viking style knotwork.
You can find the pattern and artwork on my Etsy store long term, and on my Patreon month to month.

This was fantastic, I would love to see a belt frog for attatching a scabbard/sheath to. There are so many parts to it, it would be nice to see it done by someone who knows whats they are doing.

It would be nice to see you do something big for a multi-part video series like maybe some greaves, a bag, or a chestpiece etc... but something like where you get your inspiration for your serpents and knotwork would also be neat. What about it makes it interesting, what keeps bringing you back and inspires you, that kind of stuff... It also allows us, the viewers to get to know you - the creator - a little better. I'd also love to see maybe like a "picking leather for projects" type video (You mentioned black carving leather? Yes please, if it's a thing!).

I just finished a wood core wrapped scabbard and it was a lot of trials and errors. In the end it came up pretty good (just like all your projects.) Possible you want to show a version of that project. Mine was for an English mortuary ceremonial sword (looks a lot like a musketeer sword.)

your absolutely right about stropping a ceramic blade. leather leaves a gluey residue on the blade which causes it to drag. that has to be cleaned off regularly. for best performance

If you hit the edges with some sand paper after you bevel and before you burnish, it really helps get those edges nice and slick. the smoother you can get them before you burnish the better your edges will be.

loving all of your videos so far, I noticed in this one when using that rivet setter/punch that the striking surface was mushroomed, if you haven't cleaned that up yet, I hope you do. the little mushrooming is work hardened and if/when it breaks off can fly and cut you, this is more important with bigger punches for driving bearings etc. as you're probably not striking this punch very hard in comparison, but I imagine with finer work like this, your face is probably close to the work as well, and probably not wearing safety glasses.
Keep making amazing videos please and thank you!

That copy/paste technique should make you billions! BILLIONS! :^)
    - can I assume you didn't dye the flesh side b/c sweat from your arm would likely make the dye run?
    - can you use alcohol to pre-wet the leather prior to dying or does that depend on whether you use alcohol-based vs. water-based dyes?
Thanks for sharing your expertise it's much appreciated.

Hey there, due to the Big Ol' COVID19 Situation i have just purchased 2 full Cow hides in different thicknesses from a supplier that we use at work (i work in orthotic products, n the leather we use is for Back Braces). Cost me a Bomb even though i got discount so im gonna FINALLY START this Leather passion iv had for quite some time. I work in the Correctional insoles department so i have NO CLUE at all how leather moves etc etc. Any tips on how you sized these up to your arms seen as they look pretty beefy. I have quite large foreams with little Noodle wrists. The only leather i have Cut/Used/Manipulated is 2mm thst we use for Made to measure shoes... im not after Art tips seen as im kinda BADASS at hand punched Brogues lol. Just after Sizing, cutting and finishing tips. Thanks for your time listenin to me blab on. Keep up the good work. Hope to hear from ya soon.
