0:42 Watch this in slow motion. He does NOT start a new turn with his feet, ankles and knees. He starts a new turn from his face, chest, pelvis, thighs and then his knees. The very last thing that happens is in his ankles and feet. As his upper body stops crossing the slope and heads down the hill, the skis continue across the slope which creates the new leg angle which rolls the skis over onto the opposite edges. The torsion created in the muscles between the upper and lower body is released when the skis flatten out and the muscles will unwind to help the feet start the new turn. You think about turning from the top down, not from your feet up. This is true from beginner to expert racers because, skiing is skiing is skiing. The only difference is the degree you put your upper body in the direction of the new turn.
Insurance companies don't pay anybody anything. They'll pay you for your medical expenses when something goes wrong. If what you're asking was how much does it cost for someone in this risky sport to pay for an insurance policy, I don't know, but I bet it's a lot.
I was. I'm just being a stinker about it. I used to be a snowcat operator at Beaver Creek. I just think it's weird that anyone would say Vail when they are talking about Beaver Creek. I'm a pilot now and we do the same thing. The KEGE airport is in Gypsum about 45 minutes (with clear roads) west of Vail and you have to drive past Beaver Creek to get from the airport to Vail. They put "Vail" on the departure board in the airport and when I'd land there I'd hear the flight attendants say "welcome to Vail". Haha
Didn't his skis come off easier than they would have today in the same crash? I think that could have been so much worse if he had to go the whole way down with the skis.
Too bad!! He was #1 in the 2nd intermediate time with 28 hundredths ahead of the future winner, and only 20 hundredths behind in the 3rd. He would have won another medal, at least, if...
@@rmsmith2396 it is a joke my friend I was referring to grandmathers of the pilots who were worried about son or grandson hurting themselves And the best advice they could come up with was "please fly low a slow" which is exacly what they shoud avoid doing. Got it now? Happy skiing ,enjoy your powder days !
I was just kidding around too. No offense was intended. I'm from the east, powder days are few and far between. I ski Tahoe, where my son lives, and Utah, but even there I've only been lucky a few times.
One of the best U.S downhill racers of all-time.
Absolutely right! I'm proud to wear one of his trainings-suits :)
Not just US
Slalom,GS and Super G also
Bode did not fall, he had other plans that day!
That I did not know, sorry to hear that happened, Bode is and always will be the best in my book...
I was in the stands. This race was Bode’s last. He sustained a severe laceration of his calf!

There were only 2 options for how Miller's races went: win or crash.

How.much does insurance pay him for hos risky business?

That's not Vail. Vail is a different resort down the interstate from Beaver Creek.
They were just talking about a training session Miller had in Vail a few days before this race in Beaver Creek.
Oh sorry, I think you referred to the name of the video and not the words of the play-by-play announcer.

How he smashed those gates, thats incredible. He'd take gold "if".

I had the paralyzing desire to invade something listening to this.
When he came over that rise and was facing the wrong direction, I was pretty sure that it wasn't going to end well for him.
if those trees and that fence wasn't there he could problably land a Llama

Birds of Prey is such a gnarly run. I've skied it and you can see why they have gigantic nets on the side

Uh, maybe those glasses weren't enough for the reflection off the snow? lol dumb comment.
If he skied nice and slow he would not fall !!
