I suppose it could actually be done, just with lowww pressure. Maybe take like a red bull can, place inside of like an Arizona can with water in it. The pistons would be difficult but surely there's something cheap that could withstand a little heat and pressure. Flame inside of the red bull can, maybe from a slow burning candle. Could also be a vertical boiler at that point. I definitely would have used popsicle stick drive rods too.

I THINK YOU DID A GOOD JOB! Really, what kid would not like to have one of these cute little locomotive. Shoot, I'm 74, I would love to have one. I guess some of us never grow up, we just add more years but always remember how much fun it was to be a kid . Your locomotive makes me wish I could be a kid just for a few hours!!! Excelent work, excelent video. Thank you.
I'm a 64 year old grandmother and my 6 year old grandson and I love this DIY this is an awesome little train steam or battery operated it doesn't matter it's still cool to us and we particularly love that most of the items needed to make this train we already have here at my house so we're so excited that it's a cheap build we know we can do it. My grandson and I share a love for trains when we saw this one we both were pretty excited and my grandson wants this train right away so I guess we will be trying to make it together we love doing things together should be fun and we will be careful using aluminum cans and other sharp tools wish us luck hope he will get to enjoy it soon

Man, I thought this was actually going to make something steam powered, like with a tea light or something for the fire source. Disappointing.
In the build all 3 wheels are connected. In the run the motorized axle is separate. Something is not proper here.
Actually, they're called side rods, and I'm guessing that the reason why they separated it is because it was unable to run while it was together and ended up breaking it, so they fixed it and separated the side rods.

It actually is powered by 9 volt battery and has nothing to do with steam.... That is smoke and not the steam

The way you connect the wheels doesn't make sense. Just gluing a stick to the top of the traction rods will prevent the wheels from rotating
