I reuse all glass bottles and jars, not in any major event zones either. I have also used my vinegar gallon jugs, hydrogen peroxide bottles. I have filled 3 cup mylar bags and they are taped to pieces of coroplast and under furniture.
I have about 100 dark brown root beer schnapp bottles filled( i don't drink). I have those hidden behind pictures and the photo albums, everything is up to the edge of the shelves so less dusting is a bonus. I line store bought 20oz bottles under clothes in most drawers. I have sand, gravel and activated carbon filters made, silver impregnated ceramic dome with activated carbon filters for diy gravity fed system and a few hundred purifying pills for the nasty dirty clogged creek near me.
I'm prepped for Tuesdays, two to three months of water and food. I'm 59 disabled and in constant chronic pain with spinal stenosis in 3 areas, 4 herniated discs and arthritis up and down the spine. After a laminectomy L4 and L5 slipped, so I don't have much standing and walking. But I can walk out of my apartment and get a small bucket of creek water to filter for myself. Anything less than a gallon of milk weight wise is safe a few times. Though I have lifted less and end up in bed for a couple weeks. Twisting and lifting ruins my life for a bit. Because of my back I don't plan to refill the bottles, some have been filled since covid. I also just use our crappy tap water, you can smell chlorine in it at times. I will filter before drinking but I think the extra chlorine is a good bet for water thats sitting forever.
I push others to prep some but most think im nuts. My son is no longer with my grandson's mom so i made a gravity fed filter for their home too.
I see all these people thinking I can just go buy some when needed. A talk of the port strike had toilet paper and water gone from many stores. At my grandson's house they drink tap water. If shtf they are screwed. I also made them some cook, heat cans. Three eight hour tea lights in a frisky can. Those bagged with a large tomato sauce can and enough sand for about an inch on the bottom of the tomato can. Works for heat, light and cooking on with small camping pots and pans.
I'm so worried about all the kids( all over, not just my family ) with no food and water for even 3-7 days.
I save all clothes now too for bidet toilet paper. Both my sons wore cloth diapers and not afraid of germs. Hell as a single mom, I scrubbed kennels at a huge vet that also housed cats and dogs, a very filthy job.
I do believe anymore water prepped will go in mylar bags. Less weight over so much glass

I worry a lot about the people in east Tennessee and west NC. They still have little to no services. and FEMA is not doing a great job of helping. I guess they are doing what they can, but they are short on manpower and funds, and they seem obsessed with "controlling" the situation. I have heard from a lot of "preppers" who realize they aren't quite as well prepped as they thought. This should be a wake-up call to ALL of us. I plan to build my water supply gradually and also my food supply. Food is a problem because my wife has so many food allergies. We have to be so careful about what we store. For example, she is allergic to rice and rice-products (which includes rice flour and rice vinegar, which is in ketchup and a LOT of other products).

Living in Phoenix and SHTF I’m not going to have a cool dark place to store my water containers. Can’t store them in my garage and don’t have a basement. Looks like I’ll have to find some space inside the house and at least they should be good while the electrical grid is up and running. Will have to do the best that I can.
    Great information, thanks.

The good news is that the water rocks don't take up much space.

In addition to a supply of water, everyone needs a system for filtering and purifying large quantities of water. It is amazing what Sawyer is doing in Africa. Watch the video below: th-cam.com/video/jwDqlwew7IM/w-d-xo.html

Dude...all the water being wasted by leaving the hose on is criminal.

Yeah . . . I noticed that after I posted the video. Not sure it is "criminal", but it sure isn't a good look! It's a good thing we have plenty of water where I live!
