The Project’s ‘botched’ Louis Tomlinson interview leaves musician ‘visibly uncomfortable’

- An Australian interview with Louis Tomlinson took a “dark turn” this week when a grilling by The Project’s hosts caused the former One Direction star to become “visibly uncomfortable,” Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says.
Host Peter Helliar asked Mr Tomlinson about “beef” between the five former band members in the wake of a podcast interview where Liam Payne spoke about tensions.
His positive response didn’t satisfy the hosts with Carrie Bickmore following up by asking a similar question.
Mr Tomlinson responded by telling the hosts they were gearing up to “stir some s**t”.
“Let this serve as a lesson for wannabe famous journalists in this situation,” Mr Houghton said.
“Just have a conversation with the bloke.
“Not everything needs to trigger a headline.”
Thank you calling them out, that was such a missed opportunity. It was his first interview in years, after all the success he had with his solo career and they decided to waste the time on questions to create drama or dumb questions about burgers. That even wasn't from a fans perspective as the expert said because they never ask about his solo career and the achievements he has made, seems like a they only knew about Louis because of one direction but they didn't even try to do research and make thoughtful questions about him as an artist.
Never underestimate a musician's ability to outclass a journalist.
they weren't even fan questions they were just bad questions, I think his fans treat him better.
I know y'all will cancel me for saying this but unfortunately, that's how those people on the project are when they interview celebs, they start off asking friendly sort-off questions or whatever you call it then the "digging" starts and they start asking stupid questions for about 1 or 2 reasons:
1. just to be funny and for comedic purposes
2. just to get a story out on tabloids and social media and when that happens they earn lots of money from it in my opinion

Since they were very young, this band has had to answer inane questions posed by mean people but, years on, Louis is still able to keep composed and hold his own. He must be sick of it.

ikr plus I've been in the audience on the project once with my friends and honestly, they're not that funny, I felt like I just had to laugh just because everyone was laughing at their funny comments and the camera people keep telling us when to clap and cheer loudly and when to stop doing and everything so they should really get their act together and maybe it's better if they ask the fans to send in their questions and ask the celeb the actual fan questions instead of trying to be funny or something

The awkwardness from this interview was entirely the fault of the interviewers. Louis is a very intelligent, engaging person.
2 - this was definitely not a ‘fan’ session. I don’t think most fans were interested in these questions.
3 - I love how Louis calls them shit-stirrers. He’s not new. He knows exactly what they were tryna do.
4 - I love seeing Louis get more interviews. Can’t wait for LT2

Well done appreciate this. Louis is a very interesting man and as you can tell by the interview he is intelligent and was expecting them to be too. Louis is an extremely good and prolific song writer, this is what they should have been highlighting not trying to set him against Liam and Harry, and by the way they would never get him to badmouth Harry and also he stood up for Liam by saying Liam also appreciated the one direction days. Louis has the fanbase he has because he deserves it and may I add they are not all teenagers I am a 72 year old singer/songwriter and I am very much a fan of his.

I was offered a contraction the condition I offered some sexual favours in return. I turned down that offer. Another time I was offered a contract, I got the papers looked over and it was setting me up. They would record 3 albums but they didn't say they would release them, so it would stop me competing with someone else they already had on their books. It would have tied my hands behind my back for 5years and never be able to release those songs. I knocked that back and just did gigs and a bit of work for ABC. We need good people out their. Louis fight in people's corners. He is one hundred percent my hero just for that but I also love him, his songwriting and his voice. I am so ready for his next record I hope he gets better PR for the next one because he is magnificent

That bloke from 1D! His name is Louis Tomlinson and had writing credit with 38 of One Direction songs, he's an amazing Lyricist who also supports upcoming bands and musicians. Since this "interview" has another best selling number 1 album and is currently on his 2nd World Tour as a solo performer. Last night at Sydney 's largest venue! Sold out the O2 London and all his shows. 👏👏

Thank you for calling them out. It was horrible what they tried to do to him. Mentioning Liam as the bad one and Harry as the more famous one...come on. He never talks shits about other people in interviews. And they were so close to each other for five years. What did they expect? It wasn't even a fan club session. We didn't want to know these things. We know better than that. We don't treat him like that. Fortunately, he's got his own way to cope with things, is very intelligent (i don't agree what you said about singers not making sense while talking) and media trained from young age. He handled the situation in his own style and i am glad that the other interviews weren't in the same spirit.

Even when Louis is on the outs with someone (Zayn) he doesn’t disparage them in interviews. He just states facts and moves on. These kids were heavily media trained ... do interviewers think they can get an impulsive reaction from them??? They have heard it all and been treated with disrespect and had women interviewers who were in their 30s proposition them, ask them for kisses when they were teenagers.

This is so great, we have watched a female journalist getting told to back off from Louis because she was getting too close and then gave him her number, a male journalist grope Harry live on air and now these awful 'questions' from the project, I was beginning to think it was Australia so thank you for proving me wrong and showing some respect, I love Louis and he deserves the world but it's not about that, it's about respect and common decency to another human being.

We don't put up with them I refuse to watch them or the morning shows. They are just a pack of narcissists wallowing their own glory. I don't even know why they have guests on they make the show all about themselves all the time. I watched Louis' interview on TH-cam and he was great he kept the in their place beautifully but I felt so ashamed that this is the best Australia had to offer him. So sorry Louis.

That whole interview was basically about One Direction. The intro was like 90% about 1D it was annoying

That 'interview' was cringeworthy, like the most uncomfortable thing to watch. The hosts just embarrassed themselves in front of the world because Louis' fans all around the world have watched that so it's going to be used as an example of what to not do when interviewing an artist. It was just the bottom of the barrel, to be honest.

They still giggle, but they certainty don’t spew venom the way the TV hosts did. 2) And Lou doesn’t need to be coddled as a musician or an adult human. Louis Tomlinson has amazing skill to help an interview flow or derail it depending on the journalist’s attitude and tone. He knows how to shift the mood at a turn, just watch the old 1D interviews. Leisa Goddard was more on point in her brief analysis. Ask her opinion first the next time.

Frfr as someone who is n college for journalism. To ask artist silly fangirl questions is stupid I hate it. I want real authentic questions because fangirl questions get asked millions of times.
