Watch how FDR pushes Churchill aside and supports Stalin making way for the American Empire. FDR's death changed the direction the US would take when dealing with the USSR and later Russia.
Very nice. Yet it's impossible not to notice the adorable elegance with which they avoided the storyline of the bomb, which had a huge presence in the background and a heavy impact on the atmosphere of the negotiations near the end of the war.

Poor FDR was worn slap out from pushing WC uphill in a barrel. WC created and talked up the iron curtain and cold war until he died. This movie filled in the details about these "giants" for me. Great actors and production.
i recall a witness to these pow wows between the Big 3 saying FDR and Uncle Joe Stalin would make wry quips about pompous Winston. i must say i would not relish having Joseph Stalin ( Russian word for Steel ) my real uncle. that might cost the end of my life or a trip to the Gulag. utterly ruthless man without a doubt. his biographers said Stalin loved American Cowboy movies and admired gun slingers that made a living with Pistol dueling. and yes he had his own movie theatre and numerous dacha's we would call mansions. Communism was very lucrative for Stalin . he made Churchill look like a pauper.
funny phrase " up hill in a barrel " that would be a load. no doubt Winston would be smoking a cigar inside the barrel. if he could of managed it he would have had a whiskey in the other hand. brings to mind the lyric " he aint heavy he's my brother" . Transatlantic of course 😊
Thank you for this excellent post. A quibble with the program. It is true to say, long before the late entry into the war by the USA the British & Commonwealth forces were planning an assault on northern France, with or without the Americans. The raid on Dieppe is part of the proof. Although a disaster, very many useful lessons were learned for the eventual Normandy invasion. It is also true to say Churchill was very aware of the post war 'difficulties' if Russia was permitted to overrun eastern Europe including the Balkans and to take Berlin. Roosevelt opposed Churchill in those regards.
Roosevelt didn't quite get it, what kind of extremists paranoid Stalin and his gang were. How come he was so naive about the totalitarian toxic nature of stalinism? Like Stalin's purges were purest horror.
These three guys were right about one thing nazism was a pernicious evil against mankind that had to be dealt with sooner or later. Youngsters should watch this film as part of their history teaching
He was very smart. What wasn't smart was that they didn't curtail his power immediately after the war. He was a tyrant and a mass murderer, responsible for the deaths of more of his own people than the nazis. His character should be insulted. Stalin's place in history as Russia's leader through these times is truly the only redeeming thing about the man.
@@MrMenefrego1 You're right he did. He was also in denial that the Nazi's would ever invade the Soviet Union. But he unlike Hitler he was smart enough to let his generals do their job as oppose to Hitler who wanted final say in military matters. Still think Stalin was a just as bad as Hitler.
@@richardmcguigan7834 It was difficult at that time after the war to do that when he had that cult of personality around him. But he did move the Soviet Union to become more industrialized and produce more arms for the military. That and leaving his generals to do their duties would be the difference in the Red Army defeating the Nazi war machine. Still Stalin is responsible for millions of deaths of his countrymen.
I use to be a huge fan of Winston Churchill when I was younger but I've come to realize that he was a far better speaker than military strategist. Every military operation he had any serious roll in turned out to be a straight up disaster or close to it. I've actually come to realize that FDR was the best leader in that conflict. He basically used Lend Lease to pick the British Empire to pieces and bribed Stalin into sacrificing 25 million Soviet citizens to save 2 million American GIs... Which was the loss estimate of retaking Europe had the USSR fallen or made a separate peace with Hitler prior to D Day. Very smart man.

@Doug Holliday True, but he keeps saying the reason is constitutional, not the disease. What exactly is against the constitution about it is unclear to. I will try to read up on it.
I noticed one flaw in this brilliant film. In the scenes with stalin the map of Europe shown is post 1945 where polands border has moved to the oder Neisse. In other scenes it shows the border as the 1939 border which was one hundred and forty kilometres eastward !
This material could have been as dry as toast. But here is some brilliant writing and editing. Some of the one-liners are scorching hot zingers. For all their failings, these were indeed great men who carried the weight of the world on their shoulders. These men argued their way into an agreement. The thought occurs that Hitler lost in part because he brooked no objection. He took credit for all, assigned blame elsewhere, and surrounded himself with panderers.
You're right. Everyone else was at fault and he never took the blame for anything bad that happened even though he was the #1 man. He was an awful man.
How did they film this movie? The lighting is muted and the sound seems over worked, but the acting is so good...drunk history without the bad lip-read and laughing breaks...😅
Note: By this time, the communist Polish groups who had worked closely w/ Partisan Poles against the Nazis had already turned on Partisan Polish groups & executed them. Those partisans who were invited to meet with Communist Resistance groups all vanished; never seen again...
Winston was a great man, one thing he said, if you want to know where your going? Look to where you've come from?? He knew how mad Starlin was? What support during Soviet-Finnish war you are taking about ? That war was in 1939-1940. The Land Lease act was signed in March 1941 mainly to assist Great Britain. Soviet Union became eligible in November 1941. Also, what is getting conveniently forgotten, is that after European powers, led by Great Britain , handed Czechoslovakia to Hitler on a gold platter, Poland annexed part of it, Zaolzie, that they lost in 1919 conflict.
Churchill was as committed to an invasion of France as much as the other two but seemed to be the only one to realise there was only going to be one shot at it.
Simbol of rainbow is a simbol of good fortune and hope! T. Rosevelt.! And how can someone would be able to steel that?! 😮 Not to mention that is kids signe! That stounded me....
Historically speaking, Stalin was the one who gambled and instigated WW2. He hoped that Germany and the Western Powers would bleed each other out in a prolonged fight such as ww1 and that he would come in last and reap the spoils.. And thus he enabled the initiation of war, by signing the German-Russian Pact of No Agression.. Hitler off course got back at him, because he was less of a planner and more of a fanatic (he hated communism and Slavs and underestimated them)...
I am an economist and professor of economic and social history at two universities and I am very sorry that many Westerners continue to watch these Western propaganda films, besides to the great performances of the actors, without understanding all the lies about WWII. Because the truth was never told. Roosevelt was the last great US President and the greatest politician of the 20th century and the true giant in this history. Who overcame the biggest financial crash to date and helped the USSR defeat the Nazis. On a side note, it is estimated that the recession to stealing Russia after the end of the USSR was three times greater than the crash of 1929. And millions of Russians died again that no one talks about. In the same way that the West never honored the 30 million Soviets killed in WWII, because they fought alone against Hitler. Like few Westerners blame the US wars of the last 30 years that caused millions of deaths and millions of refugees. Like the destruction of LY that destabilized the entire world. But if Roosevelt hadn't died before the end of WWII and the creation of the UN, the world today could be completely different. Without another war in Europe, in Ukraine provoked by the US and the UK to cut off Russian gas and separate Europe from Russia again. And for take and divide Russia to steal its resources again like in the 90s. Roosevelt was not a imperialist, hated Churchill, dismantled the British Empire and defeated the Japanese Empire and Hitler. And with Roosevelt, Europe would never be divided at the end of WWII. Because Moscow after the battle of Berlin only demanded the neutrality of Germany and all of Hitler's allies. Austria chose neutrality and was a free country. But the US preferred to drop the bomb and create NATO to control Europe. And Russia made half of Europe its buffer zone. Hitler screamed for 20 years and wrote in Mein Kampft that he wants take over Russia and destroy the Jews. And the film says that it was a surprise that Hitler invaded Russia. The truth is that Moscow spent the 1930s begging London to both stop Hitler before the total arming of Nazi Germany, which the Treaty of Versailles did not allow. But the Russophobia of the British aristocracy allowed and financed the arming of Nazi Germany for Hitler to take over Russia. Like unfortunately many American Jews do just to make money. For some reason, Hitler spared the British at Dunkerke, where he could have destroyed the entire British Army. Because Hitler never planned war with England, which was an ally until 1940. This is the truth. Nazi Germany, after the invasion of also ally Poland, which did not even defend itself, only turned to the West after disagreements with Poland because England and France, who allowed Hitler to arm himself in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland. Which Hitler never thought would happen. England and France always told Hitler that they were not opposed to Germany destroying Russia. But Germany in 1940 was also not yet prepared to face Russia. And in 1941 it was too late. The trigger for WWII was the humiliating Treaty of Versailles, the economic crisis and the Munich agreements where Chamberlain offered Czechoslovakia to Hitler and Poland did not allow the Red Army to cross Poland to defend Czechoslovakia. The Polish nationalist and leader Piłsudski, an enemy of Moscow and very close to Hitler, signed a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany in 1934 that also provided for Poland to help Hitler take Russia. A pact that is never mentioned, unlike the Molotov Ribentropp pact, which was the last pact that Hitler signed to deceive Russia, which in turn only wanted to gain time to arm itself to defend itself against Hitler. And Russia gained almost 2 years. Since even the great France only resisted Nazi Germany for 4 weeks. Because half of France and the English aristocracy sympathized with Hitler. Tsarist Russia entered the 20th century as a very backward feudal country with almost no industry. And the population very poor and illiterate. And I'm not a communist, but the Revolution of 1917 developed Russia and the West feared the spread of communism. Which ended with the death of Lenin 10 years later. Stalin was a nationalist who never wanted to continue expanding the USSR and the comunism. But the British Empire, the most bloodthirsty Empire ever, also provoked WWI to separate Germany from Russia. Like today the war in Ukraine to separate Germany from Russia again and keep Europe divided. Always the first goal of the US and UK foreign policy. And in 1914 England also feared that the friendship between the Tsar and the Kaiser would allow the Germany Navy to dethrone the British Empire. BS. Moscow and Roosevelt never wanted WWII. But Chamberlain wanted Hitler to defeat comunism and take Russia. And Churchill, who had already forced the US to enter WWI when he let the HMS Lusitania, full of Americans, sink off the English coast, was no less Russophobic than Chamberlain. But as he was removed from power after the Galipoli disaster, like all politicians to return to power, he criticized Chamberlain. But he let Russia bleed against Hitler. 27 Million dead. But the films also portray the Normandy landing, at most a footnote in WWII after Hitler diverted 50% of troops to the eastern front, as the great battle of WWII. Lie. The major battles all took place on the eastern front and it was Moscow that defeated 80% of the Nazi Germany troops. Unfortunately, after the Nazi defeat and Roosevelt's death, Churchill wanted to rearm the Germans to continue fighting against Russia on the Eastern front. This is the real Churchill, a thug that Roosevelt hated. An old drunk and racist aristocrat who thought he owned the world and that India knew very well and divided Europe to reign as he did in India. And in 2014 the US and UK carried a coup in Ukraine to separate Europe from Russian gas and provoke another war to weaken Russia again. People must know the truth. A war again with thousands of deaths. Because the US thinks that Russia should tolerate US missiles on Russia's border just as the US did not accept Russian missiles in Cuba. To maintain US hegemony and Empire. Which Roosevelt never wanted. And Roosevelt is the only Western giant in this story. JFK was murdered too early for us to make any assessments but he also wanted to live in peace with the entire world without dominating the world,

The end result of anything is war will always exist but to what extent and how horrible can be controlled but not the wars themselves. And that such negations although extremely tedious display clearly how to control such events but that war now can happen in minutes and the increase speed of war makes the future more and more impossible to control that the only thing that can be controlled is good people in leadership and not corrupt or evil men for in this is the only true prevention of such crisis.
Watching this, which is an excellent summation of the European conflict, nonetheless leaves out the US Pacific conflict entirely. To acknowledge the US was fighting on 2 fronts at the same time is important to the facts not discussed here with UK and Russia. A further episode of what the US faced during these years in the middle of this presentation might put a better understanding of the complexity of decisions that led to European decisions.

David Rintels wrote & directed fantastic movie . Such amazing actors and story of these three giants of leadership during those times. Enjoyed so much, didn't want it to end. Bravo to all involved in the talented efforts of bringing this to us to enjoy and appreciate. Thank you, Sandy Ibarra Gray from LA.❤
Hey there.👏👏= Great film, and two part series that took volumes to write as well as catalog. The Big Three were extraordinary men as well as extremely intelligent. The way the producers, @ directors portrayed them is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed this program. Thanks: 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Superb. Beautifully made series.
never thought i'd learn much going into this movie. wrong. great insights into the planning of victory. wonder how accurate it is.
Watch how FDR pushes Churchill aside and supports Stalin making way for the American Empire. FDR's death changed the direction the US would take when dealing with the USSR and later Russia.

A living legend who'll still be a living legend after loads of other living legends have died.
Poor boy makes good. I never missed his movies while growing up and I'm still watching him.😊
EXCELLENT !!!! --- nothing more to say .
Very interesting and great acting.
Where is part 3 ?
Very nice.
Yet it's impossible not to notice the adorable elegance with which they avoided the storyline of the bomb, which had a huge presence in the background and a heavy impact on the atmosphere of the negotiations near the end of the war.
Great insight into the Tehran and Yalta Conferences!
Everyone should watch this series to get an idea of what our presant world politics are based on

All three nailed it
And we think we have problems!
It's incomprehensible to think that we could perceive such horrors!
Poor FDR was worn slap out from pushing WC uphill in a barrel. WC created and talked up the iron curtain and cold war until he died. This movie filled in the details about these "giants" for me. Great actors and production.
..and Churchill was worn out from trying for years to persuade FDR to get off the fence and actually do something before it was done to him...
i recall a witness to these pow wows between the Big 3 saying FDR and Uncle Joe Stalin would make wry quips about pompous Winston. i must say i would not relish having Joseph Stalin ( Russian word for Steel ) my real uncle. that might cost the end of my life or a trip to the Gulag. utterly ruthless man without a doubt. his biographers said Stalin loved American Cowboy movies and admired gun slingers that made a living with Pistol dueling.
and yes he had his own movie theatre and numerous dacha's we would call mansions. Communism was very lucrative for Stalin . he made Churchill look like a pauper.
funny phrase " up hill in a barrel " that would be a load. no doubt Winston would be smoking a cigar inside the barrel. if he could of managed it he would have had a whiskey in the other hand. brings to mind the lyric
" he aint heavy he's my brother" . Transatlantic of course 😊
Hopefully this gets remastered on HD
1:10:00 The map is inaccurate for early 1945. That is a modern map he is pointing at.
Many died to stop the nazis. My thanks to all the nations that suffered so many lives.
These three guys were right about one thing nazism was a pernicious evil against mankind that had to be dealt with sooner or later. Youngsters should watch this film as part of their history teaching
Idk. They can't watch tiktok all the way through if it doesn't capture their attention in the first few seconds.😂
Well, they didn't insult Stalin's intelligence in this program. He came across very smart.
@@richardmcguigan7834 ..and Stalin is today 'enjoying' a resurgence in popularity in Putin's Russia.
@@richardmcguigan7834 When Nazi Germany first invaded the USSR, Stalin hid in his home like a frightened rabbit, not the bravest man in the world.
Lithgow is a great FDR
This may not be bad but it cannot be compared with the "longest day" masterpiece.
Longest day only covered 24 hrs. This covers the entire war.
Well worth watching. They even covered the “nasty paper!” not included, was the inclusion of the Balkan states in that paper.
Magnificent!
WATCH. GREAT MOVIE
Roosevelt and Churchill did a remarkable job of getting their two worse enemies to destroy one another. Brilliant!

Can anyone please tell me why at the beginning Roosevelt can't go to Tehran for the conference?
Do you even have a clue of what Polio is or was and the enormous pain that came with that dreaded dis-ease?
P.S. And no cure at that time.
@Doug Holliday True, but he keeps saying the reason is constitutional, not the disease. What exactly is against the constitution about it is unclear to. I will try to read up on it.
@@yechezkelberlin2887 yes, i wanted to say that exactly. He says the reason is constitutional but no clue is given.
Lithgow as fdr. More please.
Shocking! Why?
Winston was a great man, one thing he said, if you want to know where your going? Look to where you've come from??
He knew how mad Starlin was?
Not being voted in after the war, gave Starlin he's grip.

It's *Stalin*.
Bob Hoskins looks like Churchill crossed with a mafia mob boss!! Well worth the watch though
JFK was murdered too early for us to make any assessments but he also wanted to live in peace with the entire world without dominating the world,
90% of Americans today have almost no idea that these events ever happened!

Now the threat of war comes from within the United States. It's falling apart. Then what?
I’m afraid we lost that sense of duty and morals that the people had back in those days, even lasting right up until pretty much the 80’s. That’s when the last of the greatest generation all but died off. Being close to 60 myself, I got to experience some of those morals through my grandparents. They were a great bunch of people and I do miss them. I’m afraid those days of morals and doing once’s duty are gone forever my friend. It reminds me of the famous book, You can never go home again.

They're relatively accurate but the timelines are drastically compressed

There is a similar BBC film ‘Behind closed doors’ and even a better book with the same name.
