I recently picked up the AM3 and the Redcat 51 iii. Weather has not been cooperating but have tested it out a couple nights at home. Definitely a quality mount and a lot easier to use than the mounts I’ve had in the past. Great grab and go gear. Took me about 5 mins to setup everything so super easy and intuitive to use. Just need clear skies now!
Mine arrived a week ago, with my RedCat51, ASI2600MC Pro, ASIAIR Plus, EAF, and mini guide cam with ASI120MM Mini, it has satisfied my color coordination OCD! I was going to buy an AM3 anyway, but on the day I looked on the weekend after Thanksgiving a couple retailers were taking pre-orders for the RedCat edition, and I jumped on it.
You are very fun and interesting to watch and listen. I know nothing about space but I do always look around up there and have a telescope. But I am also old. :) lol
I wanted to get one last year, but as you know the delivery of AM3 was somewhat indefinite, so I got myself an iOptron HAE29. It weighs 3.9 kilos and carries 13 kilos w/out a counterweight. Would love to see your reviews on other strain wave mounts, as this technology is taking the market by storm.
That is a really impressive weight to payload ratio! I haven’t been keeping up enough, that is the first I’ve heard about that mount. I’m really interested on how the guiding is on the version with the two encoders.
@@Robservatory yeah, iOptron has a line of new strain wave mounts nobody is hurrying to review for some reason. It's like 10 AM5 reviews to 1 non-AM5 :)
Thank you for this, just subscribed. I got the Redcat 51 for Christmas this year, have been eyeing this and want to pull the trigger. I have previously just done planetary with my Celestron 8se and an asi224 camera. What camera do you recommend for the redcat? I saw there’s that new 585mc pro but also the 533. Also, is it easy to setup the am3 with asiair? Thank you!
Congrats on the new scope! The 533, 585, 183, and 2600/6200 are all great choices. It depends on the field of view that you’re after. You can plug everything into the FOC calculator on astronomy.tools and get an idea of what they will do. I like the looks and the price of that new 585. The mount works seamlessly with the asiair, super easy to setup and use. You can carry the whole setup in one hand!
Keep your fingers crossed that you got a good one. My AM3 stopped tracking after just a few weeks of ownership...and the customer support is pretty crappy.
@@RobservatoryIt took 15 days to get an RMA from them. They've had it since 12/27 (New Jersey location). I have not heard back from them since. I can log into an account to get repair updates, but there is nothing there, except a message that says the mount is not under warranty. I emailed them to inquire about that yesterday...waiting for an answer.
Just got my AM3 Redcat also, been playing around with it in the house, I just put an AT125 Refractor, I do miss the vixen clamp as that's where I was going to attach my Polemaster. True NEVER MOUNT YOUR ASI AIR there, learned the hard way...LOL Just wished someone would use SkySarfi 7 on Apple IOS to control it on iPhone or iPad??? No one has don that on YT!!!

Awesome setup! Hopefully the weather gives us all a break soon so we can shoot some winter targets!
Loved the photo, looking forward to seeing the ones with the am3!
Thank you! Fingers crossed for clear skies, because I am ready to go!

That is a sweet setup! You’re going to make some great pics with that. What are you doing for filters?
@@Robservatory Thanks! Been having good success with the Antlia ALP-T.

Thanks you! Keep looking up!
Just bought mine. Excited for some clear nights.

Sorry to hear that. Did you end up doing a warranty, and did they replace it?

I have never heard great things about their service, but at least they have a US service centre now. Hopefully they get you a working mount ASAP!

I am deep in the ZWO ecosystem so never needed Sky Safari after they introduced their Sky Atlas. I still use Stellarium everyday though.
music too loud; nice video
