Lux Aeterna 源自英國作曲家艾爾加 (Edward Elgar) 於1899年所編寫的《謎語變奏曲》(Enigma Variations) 中第九變奏--《寧錄》(Nimrod)。艾爾加在這段音樂裡描述了自己和他的好友一次在晚間漫步，欣賞著貝多芬《悲愴》鋼琴奏鳴曲的情景。在1996年，英國編曲家James Cameron為合唱版本轉寫了管弦樂章，配上安魂彌撒(Requiem Mass)中Lux Aeterna的文本，成了這段優美的樂曲。
Lux Aeterna is originated from the Ninth Variation - Nimrod in the 1899 Enigma Variations, composed by the British composer Edward Elgar. The work commemorated a night-time walk Elgar and his best friend had, while listening to Beethoven’s graceful Pathetique Sonata. In 1996, the British arranger John Cam- eron transcribed the orchestral movement for choir, accompanied by the text of Lux Aeterna from the Requiem Mass, forming this beautiful piece.
