BEFORE anyone new EVER comes to serve at a rehearsal YOU as the Leader must explain the difference between a "rehearsal" and "practice". The operative letters of those two words are R and P. The R in rehearsal is RELATIONAL and the P in Practice is PERSONAL. Your practice is personal and done at home privately and on you own time. You do all the work there and then you come to a Rehearsal to "RELATE" your personal work in harmony with the others in the band who also have done that. This also gives everyone the musical flexibility to alter the arrangement on the spot under the leaders direction from the recording to work for a church service should you need to do that. If you as the leader have not "clearly communicated that before the new person attends" you will have a bigger problem to fix and sometimes sadly it's too late. Make sure you always use the words correctly in your team communications. Don't say..."see you at practice at 7", say "see you at our rehearsal at 7" or " I now have uploaded for you practice at home this week the chart and audio on the site etc. What I do is after their audition concludes ask the new band member to attend a rehearsal FIRST before they come to serve so they can see and experience what a healthy, efficient, fun, exciting, productive rehearsal looks like and also experience our prayer/devotion time as well so they truly understand what a worship team is about and that we are and not just a band focused on technical perfection. Again this all has to be done BEFORE not after the fact. God Bless.

I have found that there needs to be clear expectations put in place when on-boarding team members.
Rehearsal is not the time to learn your parts. Rehearsal is the time to put all the parts together and work out transitions and such.
When someone is habitual about not learning their parts and being unprepared or showing up late. That person needs to be sat down for a time and they need to access and see if they can give the time and commitment needed to serve with excellence. If not then there's no hard feelings and they can serve in other areas. If so the time they are sat down and not leading worship will show them that they truly are called to be up there and they will change. Too many worship leaders are simply winging it.

Thanks for sharing what key should we be singing when we lead worship. There is a reason why the original key is preferred when we sing any worship songs but we still can transpose by 1 or two key differences to suit our congregation vocal range. Lately, there are some worship songs with exceptional too low or high above our normal range. We want to avoid losing our voice if we sing too high for too long. I heard some worship song leaders lost their voice due to constant abuse of their vocal cords in the music circle industry. The keys chosen also affects the mood of the people how we sing the praise and worship songs. Imagine singing "How great is our God" in low keys compared to the original key of the song.

Great observation on the song keys! "Who is asking the question?"
    Great clarification.

Guest leading worship and have provided team with direction of when to come in after our two rehearsals.
Drummer who invited me and is part of church elders disagrees and wants to be on the drums throughout songs and off melody.
It is hard for me to hear the piano key and lead. I want to lead people to Jesus and feel connected .
How do I approach this kindly considering I am a guest too.
