      Just found your channel. I have a question. Do you have a windshield cover for the outside of the van? It helps to keep the windshield clean of frost or ice. Living here in Colorado, we have used our to help protect from hail. We stick cushions under it when we know hail is coming.

      A wonderful, really cheap, hail protection device is pool noodles fastened together with plastic ties.

    When you come to South Dakota, no matter if you're in the Black Hills or the city of Sioux Falls on the eastern farmlands, you simply have to deal with violent weather. We've had two derechos this summer. I lost a huge pine tree and had roof damage here in the city, and the Hills on the other side of the state get terrible thunderstorms with massive hail every summer. And winter? That's a whole other ball of wax! It's beautiful, wild, but can be dangerous. We're used to it, but visitors can find themselves in shock and horror at what they have to live through. Anyway - WELCOME to South Dakota - the next boom state!

    • @LetsTurnItUpWorld
      @LetsTurnItUpWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Amanda, wow, we had no idea! We love South Dakota but the weather is a bit nuts! We have not visited in the winter yet. Have you lived in South Dakota for a long time?

    • @janetdiaz8916
      @janetdiaz8916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I have lived in the black Hills of SD for 40 years, and yes we get hail a few times a year, and heavy winds several times a year. But you are safe here the other 350 days. The Black Hills has very welcoming weather a majority of the times, excluding some winter days.

    • @ms.rlsteele351
      @ms.rlsteele351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I grew up in SD. Sturgis is gorgeous in the Fall. Lived in Sioux Falls for 9 years and still have friends and family.
      Oh hail, ya just roll with it.
      Not so much any more with temp warming, but we've had -90F with wind chill a few times, -40F many times. When it's-90, you cannot breathe outside. Certainly you should not.

      Lol I’ve lived in South Dakota my entire life, so I expected something pretty extreme, since we actually had baseball sized hail this year, but had to giggle by what I saw. We definitely wouldn’t even wake up for that.😮 I’m on the eastern side, and we spend 2 weeks a month, May thru Sept, in our RV, on a lake, in the area, However, we deal with horrid hot/humid weather in the Summer, with lots of bad storms that entail anything from tornadoes and hurricane strength straight lined winds, to, like I said, baseball sized hail, and even dirt storms called, haboobs, which are really nuts. Google that if you haven’t seen one. I always say, never travel across S.D. In the afternoon during the Summer, because I’ve gotten caught in a real tornadic storm on I-90, & that was the scariest thing ever! I’ve been through a LOT living here too. There’s nowhere to go for shelter, so travel early. Hope you loved our great state!! Come back soon! God Bless!! 🙏🏼👍

    I took a 4-mo trip in my micro camper van last summer. I visited SPs and NPs in Indiana, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, California, and Arizona. My favorite spot was the Black Hills of SD (which is rather "green" for the most part). I will be going back for sure.

    We were in Deadwood last year! Drove out from NYC-
    We took a trailer to SD years ago too- so fun!
    Glad you were ok!
    On the drive back last year we drove down the coast of WI to Chicago and on to Indiana late at night and the thunderstorms all around us were absolutely terrifying! Huge bolts of lightning and heavy rain- we were praying the whole time.

    Back in that era, of the 1870's, that place, and others like it, are really known for:
    "Booze, Brothels, & Bullets".....😂
    Can you imagine.....how they lived? And all of society, today, is spoiled to laziness, spoiled to convenience, running water, paved roads, toilets, refrigeration, and fast food, etc.
    Actually, it would good to remember how little human beings can do for themselves compared to how human beings survived & thrived back in those days.
    It's sad that society didn't carry the ethics, dignity, morals, self-respect, and pride of accomplishment that our ancestors had in achieving their goals and dreams.
    Anywsy....hubby & I are now looking to visit Deadwood because of your AWESOME video. So much info on things to do, places to see, and and how wonderful the people of Deadwood are!
    Deadwood's Chamber of Commerce & South Dakota's tourism should hire you two to create a "Visit SD/Deadwood" advertisement, as your enthusiasm would draw folks to visit SD/Deadwood. Your humor & enthusiasm....and your AWESOME videography skills really drew us in.
    Heck....you could even edit this video down to an advertising video, by using the highlights (there's so much to see).....so much to do and see here!
    LOVE IT!!❤❤❤

    That's a pretty light hail storm for Lead/Deadwood! Worst I experienced when I lived there was busted out car windows and about $20k damaged to one of our cars. Looked like snow drifts of ice chunks, sounded like the building we took shelter in was going to come down. Those nasty storms can be intense in the black hills 🤣

    I just have to say you guys are the cutest couple. You compliment one another. My husband asked me about rving and I told him no way. But after watching some of your videos, the first one I watch is when you were in Mount Charleston by yourself. Now I'm a I may consider buying an RV like yours. I just don't like the big ones too much work. And now I definitely want to go to South Dakota. Thank you for sharing your experiences

    Hail can precede a tornado, which is scary because at night in the RV you can’t see it coming or hide from it. Stay safe.

    I just found your channel. We used to go every Christmas as my inlaws lived there. In fact, their house was right next door to the historic Adams House on Van Buren St. It was so interesting when they were just refurbishing the Adams House and getting it ready for tourism for the first time. A lot of historical things were found.

    Omg...I was so frightened by the hail even watching this. I can't imagine being in the rv with this going on. oh my. Even before watching the entire video, I can certainly see why its a traumatic experience.

      Raveena, we were pretty freaked out! It was our first hail storm in Desert Snow and the noise from the hail was scary. Thanks so much for watching, we appreciate it!

    Grew up there. The weather can definitely get crazy. Have fun. The biggest hail I've seen is softball sized.

    New to your videos and what a treat. Binge watched about 6 or more episodes, and LOVE traveling with you both cuz it's been so much fun - not to mention a great educational opportunity for me to learn the history of places I've yet to visit. You guys have the best energy and make living the RV lifestyle attractive ... I'm sure more folks are now embracing this idea to living their lives by design. Can not wait to see where we're going next 🤗. Thanks
