I have watched about 8 videos on how to make coasters with resin, you are the first that applied a backing. Thanks for the great instructions and the detail.

Great video and tutorial. Thanks for sharing. Consider using a stop block on the mitre saw to have the exactly equal lengths. It's far more precise than measuring each piece separately and also much quicker.

Nice video. You can also set your jigsaw blade at an angle so the edges have a bit of a bevel along the edge like a live edge would have.

Just a quick observation: When using a Dremmel, be aware that it can burn the resin because of the high RPM it turns at. Just be careful when getting close to the part you want to keep.

Invest in a good random orbital sander. It usually doesn’t leave sanding marks like other palm sanders. Board looks good though.

good video, and instructional. what did you use on the casting box to keep the resin from sticking, you did not mention it or list it? Craig
Hello Craig and thanks! On the casting box I used silicone spray. The casting box is covered with tuck tape. I went ahead and added both of these on the list with links on the description now. Thank you for letting me know.
Great job! Your video was well made and easy to understand. As someone who has never worked with epoxy before, I have 2 questions. 1, when you remove the project from the mold, which side of the project is the finished side? Are you using the side that was in contact with the bottom of the mold s as the finished side? 2, will the stain that you used on the wood wipe off the epoxy easily? How do you make sure the epoxy doesn’t get stained?
Hello, and sorry for the late reply.
1.When I remove the project from the mold the top is the finished side.
2.The stain wipes off easily as long as you wipe it right away. I just try to wipe off the stain as carefully as possible.

Funny you mention that, I have fully painted over it on accident lol. But yes that’s a good idea.
I put painters tape at cut line just for added security against chipper and tear out

Very nicely done! When you stained the wood did you just keep the stain off of the resin or does the stain not adhere to the resin? I would have thought it would have made the resin cloudy where it touched. Thank you?
I tried to keep it off the resin and wiped off what touch the resin right away
You should use a stop block and you will have a same and consistent

I agree with all the nice comments you are getting. Can you start to sand the resin too soon? How can you tell that it's cured enough?
Thanks! Depends on the resin, I recommend following the instructions on the specific resin you’re using. I believe this one is 3 days before you can sand.

Looks great, thanks for taking us step by step. Did you let the first layer cure totally before pouring the second, or was it still tacky?
I normally let it cure for 24 hours, it’s good to touch after 24 hours. Some resins will tell you in the instructions that you can do a second layer within just a few hours.
These aren't very thick and I think I would have poured them all in one go and if they were thicker like 3/4" or 1 3/4" I'd switch to a deep pour epoxy just because I speeds up the process but the general rule for building layers is let it set till it's tacky and you can still poke it with you finger and it will leave an indent and then pour your next layer. Or let it cure rock solid them scuff it with and sandpaper and wipe it off with a rack cloth. I almost always go with the first option unless it's a tabletop but either way it's important to do to insure the epoxy bonds to it's self.

Hi, I noticed that you didnt seal the cut edges first before using the blue resin. Other videos suggest that sealing is important, could you give your opinion based on experience? Also, I assume the blow torch is used to simply warm the surface to release any bubbles? Thanks
Yes sealing the edges is a good idea because it will prevent bubbles, and yes the blow torch is to get rid of the bubbles.

Do you have to wait for the first layer to cure all the way before putting the 2nd layer?
Rob I it depends on the resin, the one I use I believe I can do a second layer after 6 hours but if I miss that timeframe I have to wait until it fully cures. Most times I leave it drying over night so I end up waiting at least 24 hours before a second pour.

Kind of new to this.. What is the red colored film you're using on inside of frame?
It’s called Tuck tape. Is a construction sheathing tape and epoxy resin won’t stick it. I believe other brands will work too but this one has always worked for me. I have the Amazon link in the description if you’re interested in ordering it.

I’m using pine wood
Instead of using the dremel to remove the excess resin, I would just start with 80 grit and work up from there. 80 will take that crap off in no time
I’ll give it a try next time. It’s always taken me a while to sand epoxy down when it that thick. Thanks for the tip

Hello sorry for the late reply. I use a heat resistant epoxy so I’m able to use hot cups on it and it doesn’t get sticky.

cool project but you should do some research on how to shop for wood before giving advice on what wood to use because it "warps" I have seen specific videos that teach you how to shop for wood and they will teach you what to look for in the end grain of wood to know whether it is going to warp or not.

I bet the reason it leaked over is because your floor isn't level. The table is only as level as the floor it's sitting on. I've had this problem before! LoL
