POE 2 - Widespread Cheating? Crashes Used To Dupe Items, Rig Vaal Orbs & More. Path of Exile 2

This will not be a good day for Grinding Gear Games. There's been pretty solid evidence posted on a now deleted Reddit thread (was at / temporalis_rug_pull_te... ) claiming groups of players were crafting mirror tier items by applying RNG currency to items, then if they didn't like the result, rolling back the server by causing an instance crash.
They then developed a variant of this to start Trials of the Sekhema when the Temporalis relic was applied... but without (permanently) consuming the relic.
A similar exploit happened once in POE1 but was patched pretty fast and all involved were permanently banned. It... might have gone on longer in POE2.
I don't accept all the claims of the Reddit thread (although I don't think the OP is lying, I think there's just a risk they've been misled about some things) - some of them might be 'market PVP'.
However on the main point - I dug into Ingenuity, an item the thread did not discuss, and everything I saw pointed to widespread rigging of Vaal Orb results through this exploit.

"headstart in collecting pixels in a game youre about to get banned from" made me laugh haha great vid love your content
Yeah but it's really about RMT. These guys aren't doing it for a gaming advantage. they are collecting real dollars
this ^. you think they are the fools but divs are 3 usd each. buying new ea keys is not even a cost barrier.
On an early access server that will be separated from the standard league when the game finally launches anyhow... 🤦♂
some ppl prob make more money with poe2 then you do working 40 hours a week 40$/hour job a week. imagine if they find shit like that where they can get infinite money and sell it :) (i dont know how much money u make but just saying they can make alot! )
@vanadyan1674 tbh most people buy for temp leagues in poe1, most dont care about having it in standard.
o7 they killed our boy sushi
I'm so happy that people are trying their hardest to break the game during early access. If people waited to exploit those weaknesses during the first league, i would be so much more mad.
I’m glad it’s happening now. Get these pieces of shit perma banned now so we won’t have to deal with them when seasons start.
This happens in leagues all the time, and its been happening since the very first leagues. Exploit early and exploit hard was always moto in POE
The nice thing about PoE is that when things like this happen they're never *really* permanent with consistent new league launches.
Yeah, honestly, breaking the game/pointing out the potential bugs/dupes is kinda the reason to have an early access. Still, obviously this should never be abused.
most people treat this early access as the real game, when you spend time playing the game, anyone cheating will affect you, be it because of inflation or because your legit drops are worth less
I figured something like this would happen, I'm just surprised it took this long. If anyone was wondering why they stated clearly that Early Access stuff would never carry over to Standard league, this is one reason why.
I can say with almost certainty someone knew this for a while. just took some careful measurements to make sure it wouldnt get fixed fast enough without doing damage. He probably started finding people who he knew would be willing to pay for the method or share the sheer scale of currency they could make of it. Poe 1 is the biggest rmt market for an arpg game out there, so despite poe2 being in early access but with this many players. Someone is totally willing to pay real money for this despite being in early access.
@@rhettorical literacy and comprehension is difficult for so many these days. So many people assume “early access” means “finished game.”
We are playing an extended beta play test - 6 of the 12 classes are not even in the game - 3 acts are not even in the game - many model assets are not even in the game … how they made the conclusion that this game is completed is confounding.
So, given that this is all a beta test… how in the fuck did they assume you’d be carrying over progress? We will probably have our characters wiped at some point in the next six months too.
And yeah, the point of these test is to catch exploits and cheats like in this video.
People, stop treating PoE2 like it’s a game that has been officially released. Read and comprehend the words you’re reading and maybe you’ll understand things better.
@@ripleyhrgiger4669 You're the one failing reading comprehension here buddy. Early access and beta testing are not the same thing, not even close. Early access is a paid privilege to play the game before it's official release. Beta testing is a job, one that has become popular to volunteer for in recent years, but a job regardless. PoE2 is an early access, the players did not pay hard earned real cash to beta test for a multi trillion dollar company (tencent) and are owed what they paid for.
@@healergirl28 that's not what EA is... It is clearly stated in the bold warning on Steam for instance "this game is in early access and as such is not a finished product and all features and content are being tested and are subject to change" I don't know where you got your understanding of EA from besides out of your ass but your wrong and GGG specifically on multiple occasions have said this is the final testing phase before release to get player behavioral data which they can't replicate in house. The EA league will also be completely separate from the other servers in full release. Their are 2 reasons games do EA , they need more money for development or testing. Period. Don't comment about things you don't understand. You look like a moron.

Vaal orbs seem to divine the item then apply -22% to +22% on the numerical values. I don't know if that's exactly right but that's what I've been seeing and it matches my experience so far
Given that real money trade sites are selling divines for like 5-10 bucks each, I imagine gheres a strong incentive for orb sellers to learn and exploit this regardless of whether they get banned or not.
I saw a site where divs were going for 2 bucks
Ngl 10 bucks worth of trade site divines to make me enjoy the game even more isn’t a bad deal
@@itzjustkris7964 Imagine paying ten dollars to get yourself banned.
The only reason to look means you were probably trying to buy. Pathetic

I love these reports in whats going on in parts of the Community I generally stay away from, but it still feeds into my curiosity :)
Wow it's crazy because in the first week I had a crash where I logged back in and had to put in one of my passive points again because it rolled me back, I didn't even think that if someone figured out how to replicate that crash, that they could definitely dupe items. Holy shit. Great job reporting on the PoE news as usual, Sir Gog.
@@CactuarNick My shit still crashes daily during breaches. Super annoying.
@@HuxleyTheProf Hey man i was having the same problem. Game would crash every few hours, Breach, 8 out of 10 would crash. Sometimes during bosses and delirium it would crash. Super super annoying.
I did two things and it got fixed:
1. - Updating Visual C++. One guy on poe2 forum said to update Visual 2013 and visual 2015-2022. When I checked mine I was a few versions behind, for example, my visual c++ 2013 one was version 12.0.30501 (from 2014!! the last version being from 2017). Just to be safe I uninstalled all of them (all 12 programs) and installed all the latest versions.
2. - Disabled shader cache in nvdia driver
Since then I have done more than 20 breach, countless bosses, a few deliriums and rituals. Absolutely ZERO crashes. In fact yesterday I even enabled 'shader cache' back to test (loading seemed longer with it disabled) and so far good, still no crash.
Hope it fixes for you.
Just play a build that makes milions of projectiles and let the game crash. Or just use third party software
@@m3zussusually its third party software as they usually just crash as soon ad they are able to trade the item off to the other player in the instance and wait for them to leave
it was happening to me with weapon swap to cast sigil of power. was gonna try to rollback an item but it was inconsistent.
I like the logic with less lower rolled corruptions but I think there is a fallacy there in thinking that if it rolled bad people will still always sell it vs if it rolled well. You're not as likely try to sell a bad item as trying to sell a good one.
Yeah but you also wouldn't throw away something that still may be worth multiple divines if you were legit.
I'm in a massive guild, something like 600+ PoE2 players across all our branches atm. If any low rolled high contention unique drop, it just gets tossed around the guild instead of sent to the trade site, and i've heard this is pretty common in other large groups, too.
Most long-term PoE1 players can't mentally wrap their minds around anything but solo play, so they don't even think of how group play might factor in to the trade economy atm. PoE2 is significantly more popular, and has brought in far more people who are used to group play in games than PoE1.
So besides the fact that solo plays a large majority of the game so therefore their way of playing would be more representative, How are you so sure that your group is the same as others? I would assume that in a large group of people you would want to just be selling the things that you can to get more money not just chucking everything into a large stash tab that you may or may not have and forgetting about it forever Doesn't sound conducive to helping everyone in the group.@@silverpact1008

This is also why mirrors jumped from 200 divines recently to over 400+ divines.
the Temporalis dupers were offloading their "cheaply" sold Temporalis' into divines, and then divines into mirrors.

Depends on what you corrupt though... These are not trash uniques even if you miss, so it would be stupid to delete them.
@@thayalol but these are uniques that are quite valuable regardless
Wait, so the Vaal orbs can roll wider ranges regardless of what the original item had on it so divining wouldn't make a difference?
Yes, people have found out that it divines the item befpre multiplying the the roll.
Right
Yeah vaal orbs divine the item then roll so 😅kinda hurts no clue wats they used for if you just vaal
divining is important, only 1 in 4 u will get a divine effect, the other 3 times u will end up with a non divined corrupted item
Yup. My Thiefs Ring - resist can be 10-15, and mana on hit is always 15. My vaal rolled resista and mana on hit both to 16. Other things got rolled lower, too. Theres a 50% resist to something... slow duration or whatever, and it rolled to 41%
I’m really happy for any glitches/exploits that get found in the pre-release. I’d so much rather them deal with those problems before the official release
This takes 2nd place, 1st place is still the hacking of accounts by hijacking session ID's when you trade with someone(At least that's the speculation of how they are doing it). That stuff just feels beyond horrible.
EDIT: Another content creator hacked, Ashimar for 900 divines. RIP.
If GGG adds mandatory 2FA these hacks will disappear I bet. I could probably “hack” into thousands of accounts with a script that iterates through the haveibeenpwned database.

@@AmaranthaGaming Sure. But these “theories” on how these so called hacks occur are baseless. Like the person above suggested people are stealing session secrets via trading? Where’s the evidence? Oh, there is none, you just heard it on the grapevine.
I’m almost certain a large proportion of hacked accounts - more than 95% - are due to compromised passwords. GGG is not responsible for their players poor security practices.
The team behind Web3 Infinity is dedicated and transparent. A recipe for success!
The people doing this level of mass duping are likely also RMTing, so I dont think they care if they get banned lol.
If I think Im gonna get banned for glitches im just gonna offload several thousand in currency and move on with my life. Buying a new account or spoofing HID or MAC is trivial if you are generating like 1000+ divines for the effort.
Yup, finally an actual good comment, once the money is done it's done, bans are nothing, paying 30$ on a 10k $ day is nothing but a drop of water, a spoofer is barely 5$ if they even bother to hwid, else you kill the egg by destroying everything related to these items and deny the next RMT workday by erasing currencies from logs else you act like you're taking some random action and we'll have a new exploit in 3 weeks causing the same outcomes.

This is early access; I don't understand why people feel entitled to their progress not being reset. GGG should just fix rarity and duping then wipe the servers and start fresh again. This is essentially a beta test, so they have every right to hit the reset button, and they should.

Exactly this is EA, so there is no reason to reset. They will delete dupes, ban ppl and EA will continue as is for sure. They would do more damage by wiping than good. Wiping makes a tiny percentage happy, wiping damages most people.

Permanent ban in free to play game, how scary
Assuming a 1 in 4 chance to hit "magnitude change" on unique corruptions with a vaal orb, and 1 in 2 chance with an omen corruption, I have calculated the following:
2.43% chance to hit 81%+ ingenuity with vaal orb (1 in 41)
4.85% chance to hit 81%+ ingenuity with double corruption (1 in 21)
There are multiple 98% ingenuity belts listed, which has a 1 in 3,690 chance to roll with a double corruption. Definitely some shenanigans going on

Also, they had the same issue with people crashing the server in PoE1 to rollback failed crafting attempts, it's why Frost Wall basically got annihilated from any form of usefulness for years
I fucking knew this would happen the second I saw jungroan messing around with the build and able to crash instances on demand. He rollbacked so much that he had to nerf his build to stop rollbacks. I don't really know how this went on for so long because being able to force a rollback on command can always be used to dupe items extremely easily, the second GGG saw what temporalis did it should have been nerfed or locked from the game. I think the thing you're missing is that people also don't have as much money to spend on high rolls. When I sell my better rolled howas for more expensive it takes longer than the low rolls as people are building piece meal and will just take what they can afford. if you have 10d and a garbage roll ingenuity shows up for 9d, which would still give you a boost, that leaves you with 1d leftover to put towards another item. If a 75d 85% shows up, well, you can't afford it and you're getting into end game hyper min max to spend 35d for an additional 5% over an 80%.
That being said, I can definitely imagine there's something happening with crafting. I'm not sure it's specific to vaal. Most of what I've heard is omens.
people in global are literally displaying their results after every reroll. He had done it 56 times and was linking the new roll every time. Some people are just that stupid
GGG are resting and doing nothing, it's disgusting. They don't say anything, a bunch of exploits are not being fixed. All topics are erased on Reddit. Content creators should raise the topics of these exploits!
yup starting to get wayyyy out of hand now and the "devs on vacation" excuse is getting old.
It's time for the dev's to get off vacation and fix the f*cking game
dupes, crashes, bugged currency weights, account stealing, scammers, 50% of the active playerbase being bots, etc.
Most of the crashes are driver based, especially on pc. Its usually lighting software like Icue/razer synapse or something like armoury crate that is doing it. 99% of the time its not game or server related happenings thats causing the crashes. I've fixed a few of these issues and every time it was one of those 3 programs.
The hacking is serious and needs resolution ASAP. the rest of the issues you bring up aren't urgent enough to end a holiday. Devs arent robots
The price movement of Web3 Infinity has been encouraging. It's gathering up speed!
GGG has mentioned that we should expect _multiple_ full wipes during early access. Wouldn't surprise me if the first major patch included a total wipeout.
EDIT: Semantics - they will be moving characters to "early access standard" and creating new leagues.
You're talking BS... in the early access FAQ they specifically mention they won't be any wipes:
Will there be wipes during Early Access?
No, there will not be a wipe. We will do new leagues but none of your characters will be wiped, they will just go to a league called Early Access (so they will never be in Standard). In some cases characters in old leagues might be somewhat broken by balance changes though. After launch the "Early Access" characters will still exist.
@@_yazmatazz jea that was before the economy was totally fucked and cheaters/exploiters run rampant. im sure there will be a wipe when the rest of the classes and or ascendencys will be released
Never said this please shut up
Early access still won’t be standard league character.
@@_yazmatazz That's the same thing as a wipe, nobody is going to play an old "league" in early access. Trade will be entirely dead and you'll probably be playing an old patch.
I seen that spread shhhh1t.. subbed xD ha , Happy new year!
Better for most of those exploits to be caught now before leagues begin and the results actually matter.
Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.
I actually found one of the instance crashing bugs, didnt abuse it, was tempted tho ngl. Basically what you had to do is be blood mage and get the health overcap orbs, you also need any minion and a life flask that gives life recovery to minions. When you pick up the blood orb and press your flask at the same time the instance would crash and it would reset your inventory
maybe don't post that.....
@Tehblood they should post it everywhere. Why? Well the economy is already trashed so the more people they take out with bans now the better IMO.
@@Tehbloodit should most definitely be posted. This is the kind of stuff that needs to get fixed during Early Access.

I found a dupe glitch for currency on Sunday which I reported to the forums and Joel deleted my post and told me too email them then this happens a few days later the glitch I found didn't require new instances or any farming it was instant that you could do multiple times in a row and would create an identical stack of currencies and no I won't give details of how it works
Dont understand the outrage with rarity and why content creators r screaming to have it changed. Yes, u may get a divine that drops in a map occasionally. Its not that egregious as sirgog says or any other content creator. You will def drop more rare items, but there is a cost to that gear. You have to sacrifice other stats or pay a crazy amount for that gear, so its a risk reward kind of scenario. Once these content creators get it removed, watch the economy crash. As in, every piece of gear for low to mid high builds that is affordable right now, wont. There will be way less rare items dropping, so bye bye affordable gear. A lot of people do what im doing. Run around 80-100 rarity, identify every rare piece of gear and throw into a 10ex dump tab. If i dont get msg'd in a few hours, price goes down. If rarity gets whacked, less rare gear, economy comes crashing down. All the currency is still in the market, but no gear.
The issue is that certain builds don't need to sacrifice nearly as much to get a lot of rarity, and that little to no rarity is awful in comparison. Of course rarity needs to come with an opportunity cost, but that cost is vastly different for each build, so it comes back to the issue poe 1 had where everyone was playing TS deadeye.
And as far as gear is concerned, they need to add actual crafting to the game. You know, the crafting they already established through years of trial and error leagues? But no, just forget all of that and make it a slot machine, with the deterministic crafting left to a handful of incredibly rare omens which are price gouged.
@@rijsmiddel8765 mf was completely and is completely different in POE 1. You have to significantly nerf your character to get the most out of it, while waiting for HH buffs to kick in. Sirgog was mostly wrong about how other classes have free reign for 2 rarity on rolls of gear, they dont. Suffix rarity means any class would have to sacrifice resists. While MOM and eldritch battery sorcs have mana tegen on the suffixes, and ES, life and mana on the prefixes. Its way overblown by content creators. I have rarity, but i cant sacrifice two affixes to rarity for one distinct reason, the cost. Its also overblown how much currency actually drops. Im at a mid to high level rarity with 125%, and thats with 60-70 divs into my build. To get the high raririty numbers around 200, would cost considerably more than its worth
@@doozey365 I think you are missing the point about rarity. The issue is players are forced to go MF (rarity) if they want to drop good amount of currency, not only that, since it affects rare items as well, it forces players to go rarity to drop t3 rare items. So basically, you are forced to go rarity, farm lower tier maps (if rarity gear kills your char, which definitely will do for some builds, this is your only source of income). Soo, to sum it up, just like any other mechanic where players are forced to do it, because there is no alternative, rarity, in the current state is bad for the game. Either add additional means to earn currency/drop better rares, or balance it out with nerfing rarity.
play the game at 200% rarity then play at 0%
it is night and fucking day.
not making literally any money (you dont get good unique drops either since again rarity affects everything)
I hope every single person who has done stuff like this (including the likes that did 6-linked quivers in poe1) ends up get banned forever.

@@lyl14ghost ggg don’t care
they would have people monitoring. You cant force 100+ employees to take a 4 week break at the same time, they all still need to be paid so if GGG did completely close their office doors then they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars for no reason because you're not getting everyone to agree to take 2 years worth of annual leave all at the exact same time.
They just didn't want to push out any changes for whatever reason I don't understand
@@MyNameIsSalo since most of high-experience personnel might be actually on holdiay, and you really don't want to allow pushing some (possibly) shitty code to production that might cause more problems that it fixes.
I wouldn't say this is very common practice, but somewhat common, in our company we try to not do production updates when most of the team is absent as well

GGG already said they wont do any resets during EA... you cant really make a trade reset without also resetting characters etc ... economy will stay like this until release and become more close to the current standard economy in POE1 where everything is just ridicilously inflated.
No one can stop Web3 Infinity from exploding up! 💣🔥
EA has been going on for 3 weeks? And we're contemplating a wipe? Am I the only person who expects the economy will be fully fucked regardless because of the speed of development? Just leave it be at least until new classes and item bases are released.
"Will be"?
It already is.
thye should wipe, because that's the point of it being early access. its not meant to be a full experience. it should have wipes every month or so. they should also raise the exp and loot generation to speed up the process of glitch hunting.
I was thinking an economy reset might be needed, but probably wasn’t an option with the number of new players. That math just changed. I can definitely see a possible economy reset in the fairly near future.
Possibly. The characters wont be in standard league upon 1.0 release.
But it will be hard to test anything with the way the league currently is.
I'd be down for a reset when they fix magic find and add huntress and druid
I'd be down for a reset / new league before then but I could live with them waiting until they have a "content update" as opposed to balance updates.
Probably gonna be a league type of thing
And make shields and armor actually viable...
Rarity caps at 250% for currency lmfao and going from 100 to 200+ barely makes a difference, know what you’re talking about first instead of spitting out trash you see online without stat sheets
People who think Rarity is a big issue are weird. Either you build for it and sacrifice utility or you don't. I played the whole game with Rarity since launch and while my friends were doing heavy damage, I was collecting.
Just because you waited until the market exploded in price doesn't mean rarity is the issue. It's that fact that you prioritized something else and now you wish you hadn't.
I got a few new friends into PoE 2 and I'm gonna introduce you as the Uncle Iroh of the community
There is an even larger issue here. between all the item duping, and all the accounts being hacked just from using a trade window... the bigger issue is how the reddit is covering all of this up. it is disingenuous to anyone looking for information about the game, and helps aid the people abusing these things by making it not seem like an issue at all. its whitewashing. I have seen this plenty with Jagex/Runescape, and i now cant help but think that the reddit as well as ggg staff is being paid/incentivized by the hackers/exploiters; it is too much of a pattern over the last year or so.
put the tin foil away.
It's Reddit, most subreddits are run by a moderator Stasi who love their little power trips. They remove stuff for all kinds of reasons, from collusion to moral arbiting to just plain old daring to have a different opinion to them. It's possible they think they can keep exploits out of the hands of further cheaters by hiding it, or they may be sick of reddit drama because people love to complain. Or they may be forced into not allowing by agreement with GGG. Whatever the reason, expecting reddit to allow open discussion of something like this is laughable. You can't even post about the broken economy without having your post removed.
Unless a reddit thread has an answer to a question you've googled, or you want an answer relatively quickly there's very little value in that platform. As soon as you enter any sort of discussion it turns into cancer and whatever mods oversee a sub will go on a power trip.

Releasing a product then shutting down your company for over a week is such a bizarre business decision. I understand it's the holidays and the staff deserve a break, but keeping devs on standby (and compensating them fairly) instead of just letting it ride and hoping for the best would have been nice. The economy is a mess, and I'm not looking forward to having my three endgame characters wiped so soon after release in order to fix it.

They need to region lock Asian servers already. 99.9% of all the scammers, hackers, and RMTers are from that region.
One thing to keep in mind is there is a massive wealth disparity in the world between the global north and the global south, and a lot of that is the result of the extraction of wealth and exploitation of labor historically from these countries to the global north. This isn't to justify these behaviors, but it does provide some explanation of why scammers are seemingly more likely to come from poorer countries. Many of them are just trying to feed their families and don't care about the sanctity of a video game economy. Why should they?
At the same time, many of these folks are in fact just sociopaths seeking profit at all costs (many of whom are Asian, but many of whom are also Americans or Europeans). I don't mean to imply that isn't going on, but I do think it's a morally complex situation in certain ways once you start to include a socioeconomic lens that accounts for the history of economic warfare and domination between nation states. If you shut down access to Asians, it probably would cut down on scamming/hacking to some degree, but it definitely wouldn't stop it. 99.9% is way too high a figure, and I feel like anyone who thinks it's that high didn't do much gaming in the 90's in MMOs when there largely weren't asians on western servers and yet there was still tons of shadiness and scamming going on.
I do want to be clear that bringing up these disparities is not to say we should just allow people to keep scamming and RMTing because they're poor and need the money. Of course not. But I think it's helpful to understand the socioeconomic context so as not to slide into prejudice. And it's worth remembering that if we want a world without this kind of shadiness in our games, we need to help build a world that doesn't have it in its real world power dynamics.
@@brianh5844no… it’s not that they are poor. There is a proven history of Asian gamers trying to win by any means necessary, and viewing cheating and exploiting as part of the game. I was shopping for a Hand of Wisdom and Action yesterday and there was a single guy with 10+ listings with very valuable corruption outcomes... strange coincidence huh?
@sirgog This has to be the stupidest Video I have seen, You say there is a bias towards low rolls because high rolls will sell more often. You seem to forget on an item that sells for 40+ Divines at high rolls that most people will spend 3-5 divines to reroll a low roll since a 75+ is worth 15-20 divines atm. If you wanted to make something accurate use something like Queen of the Forest Chest which has an innate 500 Evasion per movement speed roll that gets corrupted for. Quick look shows There is just about as many low as high rolls there.
Actually ignore that. You're right. People would be divining them to high rolls before corrupting most likely thus making the bias not quite accurate to cheating potentially.
@@chrisdon8983 he was talking about corrupted itens

Im more concerned about the large amount of claims of hacked accounts.
Why? There's no substance to it. It's people RMTing, downloading bad extensions, poor account security, getting banned ingame etc. Just the normal bullshit. It seems like a lot because there's a lot of people trying to cheat, especially people new to POE who are unfamiliar with the community.
Like there's people downloading fucking overwolf, of all apps you could download, for a trade macro. Overwolf is a literal virus by definition. People are actually this dumb and desperate.
