Not to be caught in the moment. This is one of the greatest interviews I’ve ever seen. So much outstanding knowledge in this 55:22 minute interview. Grandmaster Flash looks at DJing as a science. This is amazing. He’s an engineer as well. Grandmaster Flash built these machines. He’s a true musician. More than a “DJ.” The art of sampling. Grandmaster Flash gave us that. 60 yrs old been down since DAY 1. Grew up in the N.E Bronx where Breakout was the 1st known DJ to us because he used to be on my block ( 216th street). The days when the DJ was the show, not the MC. We went to the jams not only to hear the beats, but to WATCH the DJ get busy......guys used to actually stand by the DJ booth and watch the DJ....MCs main job was to hype up the crowd and the DJ.....before there was actual " bars".....thats how far i go back

damn let me say this .... I am 25 years of age : half the age of hip hop... well a couple months shy of a quarter centry , and when I tell you I don't like to comment. I don't like to comment. if anything this is one of very few and I mean FEW comments I leave on any online platform. but ive been aware of this man before I even had the chance to speak my first words. my mother will more then gladly tell you about the how I wouldn't kick her during pregnancy but, on how I would gracefully glide around her belly like a roller ring. practically moonwalking out the womb. but personally speaking this man Grand Master Flash has put a nuclear power plant in my heart, soul, and body. that I can honestly say ... he makes me feel extremely humble. so humble that I can say; going to be the one of the best sound engineers/producer/beat maker/song-writer / creatives to ever touch the earth with one of the greats like himself. All this steaming from a man (in my case who isn't my biological father) who casually introduced me to what I call today....the love my life ... music

He is so right. I'm 60 years old and remember these guys setting up makeshift equipment in PS55 schoolyard after hours in the Bronx. They'd use the streetlights for electricity, somehow rigging those things for power. I always thought it was dangerous and cool at the same time but now i see Flash and the others knew exactly what they were doing. There is something special about being there before hiphop existed and watching what it has become now. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

This interview is golden. GMF is a real life genius!!! He should get with Ava and make a documentary/movie.
