John chapter 2 explains that anyone who denies the Father or the Son at any point in history since Jesus’ coming in the flesh is an antichrist person. 1 John 2:22 This definition of antichrist individuals seems to be due to their lack of faith and not due to their lack of knowledge about Jesus’s identity. In John’s day, there were some Christians who left the congregation because they denied Jesus. John said that these many antichrists had already appeared. 1 John 2:18,19 When we research Jesus’ ministry, we learn of many who willingly rejected him. These rejected him even after seeing him perform miracles and having every evidence to accept him in faith. Jesus used strong language to denounce their lack of faith but revealed a future hope for them by stating that they would rise in the resurrection judgement and be given a second chance to be faithful and obedient to Christ. Matt 11:23,24, Acts 3:23 It is interesting to note that the scriptures reveal that Satan and the demons have knowledge of Jesus’ true identity even though they have rebelled against him and God. Luke 8:28, Matt 4:4-10 Should these be called antichrist spiritual beings? If viewed from the standpoint of willing rejection, yes. They do acknowledge that Jesus is the son of God and that he has ultimate power and authority over them and will soon cast them into the abyss. On another note, I do not believe that the man of lawlessness represents Satan because it is accompanied or appears to be the product of lying signs and wonders which is the operation of Satanic influence. 2 Thess 2:9,10 Satan has been described as being the Father of the lie and those who follow him are defined as his children.
