    Mappy is one of my all time favorite games. I love it because the risk reward is perfect. While I love Pac-Man/Ms Pac-Man because it's a simple game anybody can pick up and play and have fun, I love Mappy for another reason. The risk/reward is absolutely perfect to me. There are so many ways to score points from just jumping on the trampoline to trying to line up the enemies and using that shock wave against them. The first time I discovered this I thought it was so cool! I once tried to spam the game for points by jumping on the trampoline over and over and over again to score points. 3 times, ledge, 3 times, ledge, 3 times ledge. Well if you stay on the level long enough the game tries to kick you off. First off it speeds up the enemies and drops in an extra enemy which by the way is yet one more way to score points because you have one more enemy you can try to line up, but also if you continue to stay on the level, the game ups the intensity by adding a little automatic death pill where if it follows you everywhere and any touch, whether on a trampoline or not, you're dead. I thought that was so clever. I don't know why, I guess I loved the idea of the game knowing what you're doing and actively fighting against you. It felt like it was a sentient being and I just laughed my butt off the first time I saw that death pill. It was so much fun. I tried so hard to get past that death pill because I wanted to see if it gave more, like two death pills or something, but I never could. that death pill is so good at getting me, I am just not good enough to avoid it. What a challenge though. Gawd I love this game.

    Great review, love these, keep up the good work! Mappy was my first My Arcade purchase, got it late last year on clearance at Target for only $10.48! Talk about a steal for such a quality mini arcade cab. Since then I’ve gotten the My Arcade Dig Dug and Bubble Bobble cabs which are also really solid despite being NES roms as they’re also both great conversions respectively much like Mappy. I’m planning on pre-ordering the Bubble Bobble 1/4 scale arcade cab from Numskull though as that has the actual arcade rom and it’s probably my all time favorite arcade title which isn’t a shoot ‘em up and having an official, arcade version of that game at home is too good to pass up.

    There are 16 main levels, once you reach and beat level 16, you go back to level one maze. Number will continue to 17 on, but the mazes go back in order from the 1st stage except the cats go faster and becomes more difficult. I made it to level 20.

      I agree, the Namco mini arcade version blows this version away.
      The NES version of Mappy was a pale comparison compared to the
      arcade version. It's missing an entire level vertically, and the game
      is much easier. It's just as bad as most of the other NES roms.
      Sure this is a dedicated version. But its not worth the money, unless
      you're a collector, or easily impressed, and don't play the game that
      often.
      Its about $90 on Amazon for 20 games (some Genesis versions),
      most are arcade roms for the Namco multicade.

      If you want my personal opinion, it's a phenomenal machine, and a must have if you're into it. The screen reflects onto a plastic moon background, the sounds are great, it uses the arcade rom, it controls well, and the machine just looks really good! The only downside is it doesn't save high scores, but that's about it. Even the image quality is outstanding, not a pixel is off!

    All these companies using the word “Arcade” but selling us NES games. It’s just weird. And so overly done. I haven’t played Mappy in an arcade since probably 1985. This has popped up on some AtGames stuff too. Great unboxing and look as always! You’ve got quite the micro arcade collection.

    • @GenXGrownUp
      @GenXGrownUp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @QunMang

      Never forget the AtGames system they sent to reviewers with arcade ROMs then sold in stores with NES ROMs- definite bait & switch.

    • @Emceemur
      @Emceemur 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And since they’ve done it, so have others. I blame Bandai Namco. They’ve always been stingy with licensing. It doesn’t excuse the bait & switch. But it may have facilitated the need to do so. We have multiple plug n plays & devices out there that call themselves “arcade” and run NES versions of the PacMan games. Strangely enough, the new AtGames blast (orange box) DOES feature the arcade versions of the same stuff.

    I would like to see a my arcade Mario bros machine, if they use the NES rom they can use the European NES rom called Mario Bros Classic.
    Mario bros Classic is the same as the American Mario Bros rom except you get all the intro and intermission screens, the enemies and sprites are bigger and more true to their arcade counterparts.

      Criminally underrated. Mappy is a really great and addicting game, but for some reason it's rarely talked about and not given much love in the gaming community. In terms of Namco IP's, you'll hear people talk about Pacman and Dig Dug all the time, but Mappy unfortunately is treated forgotten by majority of em, it's insane. Mappy seriously needs more love, that's for sure.
