The dancers are from the World Class Drum Corps, the Santa Clara Blue Devils. Drum Corps are the only groups I've seen that practice constantly with the kind of work ethic you see with BTS. Since they are used to repeating things endlessly until perfect, marching in extreme heat, and changing choreography constantly to get an edge on their opponents, they are the perfect group to do this. You can look them up onine. Fun reaction! 💜
Very slight clarification. The “marching band” members are actually a part of the Blue Devils, which is a very well-known and well-respected, top of the heap, drum and bugle corps - not a marching band. The difference is the absence of woodwind instruments in a drum and bugle corps.
Jeff at 16:27 “wow”. I’m thinking yeah, wow because he’s watching J-Hope, Jimin & V’s dance break. Then Jeff says “I was wowing the gimbal operator”. 😂 That’s why I love these reactions. Someone else mentioned the other documentary covering the making of the music with the UCLA band and gospel singers. I found it really interesting and listening to the comments of the participants gave more insight into how BTS make some of their MVs and how highly they are regarded. 💜
2:00 Its interesting to see how bts and the dancers have different ways of keeping time with the music haha! During the rehearsal, (i think its) the bts choreographer was singing the tune at the same time as the Lab choreographer was using 1, 2, 3, 4 counts
It was filmed at the Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles. It was early 2020, so "Winter", but LA Winter. Sunny and dry and not too hot. Now you need to react to the actual Music Video (and the Behind the Scenes of that. And possibly the "BTS reacts to ON MV" as well)
BTS is in Las Vegas now for the Grammys and their 4 day concert at Allegiant Stadium. The choreographer Sienna and her dance team The Lab will be performing this song today at the Grammys with BTS.
It was UCLA marching band. It was filmed at Hansen Dam in So. California.. There is a documentary featuring UCLA band and tbe background gospel singers i It is called 'ON' Commentary Film: Dialogue. You can watch it on TH-cam. I think you will enjoy it, as you like deep dives.💜
Interestingly, this whole map of the soul era was based on Carl Jung's theories regarding the persona, shadow and ego. RM's solo track Persona, Suga's solo track Shadow and Jhope's solo track Ego all have explanations. And they're just awesome songs and videos. So they intentionally do a lot of interesting things with shadows in this era whether it be visually or with the lyrics.
Location is the Sepulveda Dam on the Los Angeles River. A bit a trivia, it is 30 miles from the rocks seen in ON MV, and 22 miles from the theater shown in Black Swan. Thank you for your insights on how it possibly filmed (shots earlier in the day vs later).
The backup dancers are a dance crew called The Lab, they are super famous and they've performed at many dance competitions. I used to watch them, their incredible especially Sienna the main choreographer! Her facial expressions make the performance even more high energy ^^
I heard some ppl don’t like you pausing so frequently, but I actually like it cuz you add a lot of technical details and perspectives I wouldn’t know about. Super interesting! Also, I think it would be interesting to do a review with your wife to get a dancer’s perspective too! 😊

This is actually shot at the Sepulveda Dam outside of LA. (My dad used to take us there when we were kids.) And if you are interested in watching a little bit more about the production of this MV--including the UCLA marching band's participation--check out the "Commentary" film: th-cam.com/video/npfs6afvIhk/w-d-xo.html BTW, I love how you always call out all the people who work so hard to make these MVs (and any performance) happen! I love watching the credits at the end of movies just to appreciate how much time and effort is given to the making of a film--or MVs, performances. The knowledge, talent and artistry goes way beyond what we see as viewers.
I think what you were trying to say about the dancers not allowing themselves to mess up despite being in the background is that, it follows the "you had one job" idea. They aren't in the spotlight so supposedly they have "less to focus on" so they are expected to do well in their job. Either way, they band and dancers did an incredible job and it really shows
The back up dancers are from The Lab Studios in L.A. They also worked with a famous drum line The Blue Devils (the one with the instruments). The song itself was done with the UCLA marching band (but not in the video).
I would be interested to see your reaction to the video to Spine Breaker that they made themselves (hastily, in their hotel as a challenge), the filming of- and end product- their Dalbang Dorm sketch, and of course the video to Life Goes On that Jungkook directed. (:
The backup dancers are actually a dance crew called The Lab. Sienna Lalau has worked with them, and I think still does. They also have the UCLA Marching band and Jazz band that worked with them. Their is another video that goes in depth on that as well. Location for MV shoot was Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles County.
So, it’s understandable to mix up the different groups of backup performers. The dance crew is just that - a crew from The Lab in Southern California. At the very end of the music video, the Blue Devils appear with horns. They are a competitive marching band. They do not play on the track, though. The people with snares in the middle of the video are from The Lab. The actual UCLA marching band (along with members of the UCLA jazz and concert bands) are performing on the track itself but do not appear in the video.
Just FYI, it's really up to BTS how the finished product. They are such perfectionist that this was not just shot lightly. They keep doing it until the members feel it's what they see, they like then it's a wrap.
You should definitely show him or you should react to the actual official MV you could say or the other MV lol since its way different than the Manifesto film and it’s not the “official mv” the manifesto film is more dancing and has great camera shots and scenes and stuff but the official MV also has some cool shots and has more of a story to the shots and I think he’ll enjoy it as well!!! th-cam.com/video/mPVDGOVjRQ0/w-d-xo.html Shooting sketch: th-cam.com/video/bYdDxEa3us8/w-d-xo.html

There was post-production work done on the aqueduct. You can see repeated sections at some point if you get a good shot and zoom in. I'm assuming that's how they controlled the shadows.
The dancers are mainly from the Lab. Maybe some of the persons in the end with the instruments are from ucla. ucla musicians are used in the production process for ON. There is a documentary about the music of mots 7 and the culture behind it from big hit th-cam.com/video/npfs6afvIhk/w-d-xo.html

As a side note, Suga mentioned in an interview that one thing he felt most keenly from the cancellation of the Map of the Soul tour (for COVID) was the thought that they might never get to perform ON live the way he'd envisioned it. When he wrote it, he knew BTS had a stadium tour planned. He was deeply intrigued by the idea of putting that BIG marching band sound and energy and precision movement, which is basically *at home* in a stadium setting, together with BTS's style. He basically conceived of the song with a live marching band in mind.
