    I agree about Thrive and other companies like them who require all my info just to view what they have. And while I can technically pull out, often it takes a lot of convoluted time finding the right buttons to do so or worse. For one company, I had to go to the chat room and waste more time to get my money back, cancel and delte account. But I decided also that they have just captured my credit card and email, name etc that they say will be deleted, but with so many hacks on big companies I don't find it safe. Plus, I have later gotten emails from some of these companies I deleted with ads. So basically they lied, kept my email and then marketed their stuff to me. So I've just decided if if can't see what Im buying up front, I can go somewhere else. Thanks for posting - love your content.

    Thank you this helped me a lot….I’ve been thinking about Misfits…..I quit on bloggers site because every one she spent time promoting an internet product……I know she’s doing it to make money but everyyyyyyyy vlog became redundant to me…
    I try to help your site by clicking the thumbs up and also sending your link to Facebook and friends…
    I thought of you today while cleaning my refrigerator freezer and pulling out this and that’s I shoved in bags and put in there…..so the outcome will be hamburger cabbage casserole with shredded kale, dehydrated onions, celery and carrots with smashed potato waffles.
    Chicken broth from saved skin and a forgotten bag of cooked chicken….I’ll pull the skin out once it’s cooked for awhile….a mix of frozen broccoli, carrots and corn I’ll make into a veggie soup and the extra veggies I’m not using I’m dehydrating.
    Last of all strawberries I’ve bought and put in the freezer…I’m going to make into a chia jam……my husband wants P n J Sammie’s everyday so I’ll mix some of the jam into the peanut butter so it’s not drippy….
    I made zucc fritters along with a dill cucumber sauce for the couple I cook for….yummy.
    Last week I made zucc and banana breads and froze some, so good that my breakfast was creamed cream cheese with chopped dehydrated strawberries mixed in it….opps till it was gone…..
    Thank you again, oh….how about showing a video on what you are sewing now. One you tuber is selling her aprons for $30 ……and has had some large orders……several were around 50 aprons……they’re pretty but I’m more for country looking ones with old looking material….
    Blessings,

Thanks so much for showing us where you get your pantry items, all your info is always so good, may God continue to bless you and Mr. Rain

    I agree about Thrive Market, I found the same thing and didn't last long either. We just got a Costco (about an hour away) and am going to,check it out soon. However online, I'm not seeing things I've heard you mentioned but a friend of mine really likes it too, so I'm just going to have to go look again. My places to buy are typically Azure, Vitacost and even Wal-Mart (organic items), sometimes Amazon but usually find cheaper at the others.

    Azure has been a God send this year. I have been buying their in season, bulk, organic produce to can as the weather has made my garden late at the very least. I have to drive 45 minutes to pick up my items, but it’s worth it and I will not be doing it during the winter months. I am preparing so I do not have to venture out this winter at all. Vita cost is excellent for staples and treats. Market Wagon is another good local source as well as local farmers more directly like via farmer’s markets and farm stands. We joined a herd share for milk last year which drops off fairly nearby (for us) and we freeze it until we need it as well as making ferments from it. I don’t eat meat, but for the rest of the family and our dogs I have been buying bulk freezer meats from a local butcher who prepares it fresh and to my specifications at excellent prices. I have been freezing it in our estate sale freezer I got for $60 last year, but this order I ordered extra to can and bought extra jars in case of power outages this winter and the need arises to can the rest. Just found out from the butcher that they will even precut the meats for canning for me as well and all of it always comes preFrozen after processing so that it isn’t messy. I have been drying herbs and wild edible foods like lambs quarters in large amounts as they are doing great this year.

    Thank you for such great information regarding Thrive Market. I thought I was doing something wrong when I went to the website but for some reason could not properly maneuver to see the products or learn more about what the company and reasons for membership were all about. A red flag that I ignored and thought it odd, presumptuous, and shady when all they wanted was my email, and then started having me create a profile, only to find out in the end, they wanted my credit card information to get me started. At that point, that freaked me out so I just shut it down, then found your video. What a waste of valuable time before I found you. I have no problem with people making money thru affiliates. It's obvious you work hard to provide information to your viewers but the fact that you are willing to state up front the details is so refreshing not to mention it lines up with how you are expected to live based on the word. Up here in Canada, we pay more for stuff like that to come up and then pay customs. Not worth it. As for Costco, I let my membership go because I found better prices without the monster amounts of packaging in our WM & Superstore. I figured, if I wanted to hit the freeze-dry route that I’d pay for a unit to do it so I could at least have unlimited amounts and even sell it to make $.

  • @rainspringing
    @rainspringing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yes, love how Vitacost sends those follow up emails about carts. Works good for our seldom used pantry items, that we want in small amounts. We love Simple Truth Organic things, well many of them, so Vitacost having almost all the dry goods makes the trek to the grocery store much less bulky.
    Everything else is bought in bulk, yeah usually sub & save, during our cool weather pantry stock order per year. We had no idea there was a long term rice shortage around here, because we already had our rice. I worried about it for the next year, but during the few short winter months our bulk rice came back in stock. It's easier for us to have the constant pantry items already in our house when hot weather gets going. Same for things that would melt in transit, like chocolate. Azure Standard is one of those things I keep wishing was more accessible to use, for us, but at least we now have drop points in our state, so there is more of a chance one day to get there!

    I started shopping at Vitacost after seeing one of your videos. I may have been this one. I really like them. We have several discount stores where we can get organic food and I try to go to one of them about once every 2 months. I was checking into Thrive Market again today and just did not like that I would have to pay for a membership, before I could see what they carry. I would like some freeze dried foods, but I think I will get them somewhere else. Thank you for such an informative video.

    The thing I don't like about Thrive is actually the limited selection of products. I can get similar products at Trader Joe's or Costco (without the limitations) at much cheaper prices. Also, I have a hard time selecting stuff to buy at Thrive. I would never buy frozen items online and many times even produce is not worth it online as it goes bad by the time it arrives. Another thing is grocery shopping online is not easier at all.

    I agree 100%! I have only found a few items at Thrive Market for a lower price than elsewhere. It’s a waste of your money. I get more items I purchase at Costco and Vitacost for much better prices. I just placed an order with Vitacost yesterday, and got an extra 20% off even most sell prices.

    I love Thrive Market! I’ve been a member since they opened-but I did get a free lifetime membership. I don’t use a lot of items like flour fast enough to buy a lot in bulk, so I use thrive market for my everyday pantry. I do shop Costco and vita cost, but for certain things, like organic pasta sauce, organic pasta, coconut water and all the fresh stuff. I wanted to try Azure, but I’d have to drive 1 hr to pickup and then 10% to the local organizer. So I decided against that. You are correct, different retailers work well for different people. ❤️❤️

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While I love Azure, it is the same for us in order to get free or reduced shipping we would have to drive that same distance to get it so I have to price things out according to weight plus shipping. Which is why some grains I buy on Amazon. The grains may be more there but I get "free shipping" so the price per pound for the hard white wheat grains comes out cheaper to order from Amazon but the oats are cheaper per pound, even with shipping, to buy from Azure

      @@RainCountryHomestead Yes, I get the few bulk grains I buy at Costco or Amazon. For freshness, I just don’t buy a lot of grains in bulk-and the kinds of rice I tend to buy aren’t usually sold in bulk. I applied under low income because we only live off one disability check a month and got turned down so they told me to apply for the free year under veterans status (my husband spent6 years in the Army. So I did and haven't heard back and it's been weeks! I've always been impressed with their service until now.

    Thanks for sharing this information. I went to the site and put in my credit card info, but backed out before initializing my membership; we'll see if they actually billed me or not. For those of you on the fence, let me admit that I never checked their prices, so maybe the ~$60 is worth it.
    Here's my take: Any business that wants to sign me up for a recurring charge is automatically suspect, and since at Thrive you can't even see their prices until you have already committed to paying the membership fee, they have pre-emptively lost my custom FOREVER, or at least for my next three lifetimes.... Any business that sells my info so that I can get even more spam in my inbox is downright shady in my book, and this outfit's "buy before you try" gimmick tells me that they don't truly believe that their prices are competitive, capisce?
    My advice: Shop local for the stuff that's grown or produced where you live; this supports your community. If you're good at organizing, think about setting up a buying collective with those in your community to save on stuff that isn't locally produced.

Since I no longer go out in public for any reason because of the vaxxed (very dangerous to my system their shedding) it is great to have food on my front porch and some of their nongmo food is sooooo good compared to the gmo versions. Yes! I last year at the height of the pandemic, even though we live in a tourist town and they were still coming and going during that time, very few people here got sick - in fact I do not know of anyone who for sure had the virus - and we had 0 deaths in our whole county. A year later with so many already vaccinated, people are getting sick here right and left and I know for sure some of them had been fully vaccinated and I feel pretty certain the unvaccinated that have contracted it got it from those who had been vaccinated. YET, the unvaxxed are getting all the blame even though the CDC even admits that the vaccinated are not only getting the virus, they are spreading it.

    I agree with so much of what you have to say. I also have been vacuum sealing everything for years.
    I don’t know how to go to, but I seem to trust what you have to say. I bought a ton of grains (red and white hard wheat), beans, rice from Azure Standard, 25 pound bags, I’ve put everything into gallon freezer bags and put it in the deep freeze for up to a week. At first I took everything out of the freezer bags and put them on cookie trays to dry out even put some in the dehydrator. Then I read it wasn’t necessary, so I have bags everywhere ready to go into storage but I am concerned that they may have moisture in them coming right out of the freezer. I thought it would be OK to leave the freezer bags just come to room temperature and then put them into storage but now I’m not sure.
    I emailed the Wheat Counsel but have not heard back from them. Thanks, Love your channel!
    Any advice?

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      I always give my grains time to dry before packing away and in fact have a couple of bags I just pulled out of the freezer drying out now. I usually open the bags and then cover with a cloth to prevent dust and lint from getting into them and then try to stir them daily just to make sure all the moisture is gone.

    I'm not a fan of Misfit. I started receiving a monthly package and, as far as veggies were concerned, summer squash were broken, smashed tomatoes, some things were just gross. Now, as a disclaimer, I live in Maine and I think it just happened because I live far enough away that the packaging just wasn't good enough and the boxes were juggled around too much. Since then, I have my own veggies now and many people selling (or giving away) their extras on the side of the road.

      I think there are many factors when it comes to location: the way boxes are handled by certain carriers. Around here we have excellent carriers for FedEx and UPS - at least the local guys. They never just toss your stuff from 20 feet away to your front porch as I have seen in home security videos. Then, as you said, some may have to travel further distances, and some have to travel through extreme heat, which we have only had a three day stretch of that through our whole summer. The rest of our summer has been very cool and in fact for hte past two weeks, I keep thinking I should build a fire as it has been so cold in the house.
