Majority of your info was correct. You definitely did your homework. Much respect.
I’m a Retired moonshiner from Endicott, western mountain part of Franklin. Of course this was way before my time but those boys wasn’t the biggest. They made their share of bootleg but I knew the old men that was sending it out by the tractor trailers full. A lot of that whiskey went to your bigger mob families up north in several big cities. Also the movie depicted Deputy Rakes was from some big city and was ruthless but he actually was a local from Endicott just past Ferrum where everyone made liquor.

I sure am glad to see someone from my part of the county make a comment. I agree with you, the Bondurant boy did make their share and were rough as cobs but my folks have been in the Ferrum, Henry, Providence Church and Endicott areas for 300 years. They all made whiskey. The Youngs, Philpotts, Quinns and more made piles of whiskey and could hold their own with just about anyone. Piles of movies could be made in those hill.

My family is from Glade Hill, just outside Rocky Mount, and my grand father was probably knee-deep involved in the moonshine wars. I know he made his own up through the late 50's.

My paternal grandpa was a moonshiner all his days until he died, in Nicholas County, WV. He married 6 women legally, and had one in each county surrounding and he would run from one to the other when his trail got hot. We kids and grandkids never knew this until the family tree. He knew the Bondurants according to my grandma. I found out here in Raleigh County which is where Beckley is, he had fueds here with the biggest and baddest of them all, so when I moved here I asked around. Nobody messes with me after finding out who I came from. Thank you for your video!

Love the video! I respectfully have 1 correction though... At video mark 8 minutes and 10 seconds you shared the Deputy Richards story. You said his name was John, but in fact his name was Thomas Jefferson (aka TJ) better known as Jeff. He was my Great Grandfather! Great video though! Great information! I appreciate you!
