    When it’s time to number down. It is good to cull and eat all the weak ones. The ones that don’t serve any purpose and most likely will never fly on the team. There’s only so much you can keep or need, therefore to keep a healthy number we have to cull the ones that don’t serve any purpose. Some aren’t worth giving away, when we give any pigeons away they’re all usually good enough to give away. But the ones that aren’t good for anything at all except for food, hey might as well eat them. Back in our days, we used to hike tall mountains to hunt band tailed pigeons, doves, and quails and many other species of upland game birds. We enjoy the delicacy of these meats. They are lean, tender, and if cooked and seasoned right, are a big plus to your health and a major delicacy. Some people don’t like that we raise pigeons for food, but hey. If you are too soft to manage and cull your birds, your loft will be over crowded, therefore always sale, give away, and cull inorder to keep a healthy number. We still have a few more that will be dinner when time comes. But for now we cull what we can eat at a time. If you don’t agree with us, that’s perfectly fine, we all have our own preferences, and our pigeons serves us more then one purpose. If and when we cull, there’s a God given and good reason why, we don’t just kill just to kill, we make supper out of them so they’re life and flesh is not wasted. That’s just how it is at our loft, plus teaching my kids how to hunt, fish, and raise their own animals for dinner is second nature as it is a survival tool incase the world ever turns upside down completely. Well anyways, take care and God Bless!

    Hey I saw a comment that you put today in the pigeons show in Guadalajara Jalisco and I'm curious, where in the world are you? I don't eat my birds, I sell them to a local pet shop for ten bucks a piece. I'm not criticizing your way to handle crowding/overcrowding in your loft. Greetings from Phx Az.

    People eat pigeons that’s just what they do, that’s why i guess some just don’t come home. That’s why I only like to race during old bird season as there will be leas hunters in the outfield

      In a sense these guys are probably shooting our birds sometimes as they’re flying home, but as far as I know, most people hunt doves and not pigeons. They mostly only hunt pigeons when farmers complains about all the ferals hanging out at their barns and farms. But Yeah sometimes the farmers gotta do what they gotta too.

    Sorry I could never do that . Especially with racing pigeons when I get so upset at losing them when they do not make t home for raced

      hey, if they’re feathers quality are not good, and they’re not gonna fly well. Why send them to feed hawks or to get lost? Might as well feed your family with them.

    • @xiongguysloft9560
      @xiongguysloft9560  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we send to the races we send only good ones and some still don’t come home. If you send ones with bad frizzled and weak feathers and muscles, they definitely won’t come home. Rather make good use where good use should be like the old days.

      I do not condemn anyone for doing what you do
      In fact I understand all the issues
      It is my opinion because I have
      Such a great fondness of the birds . My dad had the birds in 1950 and I have had them for many years I admire them

    I have never cull my birds before but I have giving them away to family in need of food. Or if I have bad birds that don’t like to trap or have bad habits then yes but only to my parents. Never & will never eat my own birds or pigeons in general

      Hey totally understand you there. That’s how I used to be as well. But times changed, and I gotta start doing things myself sometimes while teaching the next generation as well.

    It's the responsible thing to do. I know that some people can never kill their culls and instead, sell or give them away, but they're not furthering their breed by passing on their wasters to others. Not even to kids, in my opinion. Unfortunately, most of the old timers I grew up around would consider most modern fanciers way too soft. They didn't bat an eye to eat a cull and they never tolerated sick birds. They figured there was something wrong with the sick ones and they'd put them in a can pretty fast. The bad ones were simply part of the family diet and there was always an expectation that you filled the freezer with the ones that weren't good enough for the stock loft or old bird team. For most people, meat now "comes from the store" and not much thought is given to it otherwise. I don't think that's much of a way to live. The stir fry looks delicious, by the way.

    Mike Tyson probably gonna hate us for this one 😆 but hey, we gotta eat. No sense of sending birds to a race if the bird has poor feather quality and won’t even fly to the roof top. Those birds will hold your flock back from flying. Gotta remove them one way or another. And eating is the best way to make use of your time and feed money spent on them.

      Tyson knows Asians aren’t the only people who eat pigeons. He knows Africa have that dog meat problem right now just look it up

    Ahhhh … don’t say you’re eating your birds … you know someone told me it was bad luck to eat your birds … 🙏

    • @xiongguysloft9560
      @xiongguysloft9560  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never, it is never badluck. Only haters say that. This was what we’ve been doing all the time from time to time, yet we still thrive. Only haters who have nothing better to do with their own lives will hate on another person’s loft or culture.

      You hear people cull birds all the time, and not eat them. For us, we rather eat and not cull for nothing. Good birds are good birds no matter what. Bad ones will be bad no matter what, if the races aren’t rigged, we’ll see the true and full potential of everyone’s results. That’s just how it is.

      This is a sporting hobby, when you’re breeding for athletes and not backyard ornaments. You have to get rid of the ones that don’t meet the criteria especially if you have a small loft or not enough space.

      @@alexknight3665 the ones we eat we separate and purify them, only water and feed.

    I repect ur decisions with culling and eating ur birds ,well its ur birds after all and i dont think i could kill my birds to be honest 😂

      It was difficult to do in the beginning, usually my parents will do the butchering. But hey, i had to harden up and allow the loving kindness in me to leave. Many people will lie and say they don’t cull or do away with their birds. Everyone does some way some how, some people sell junk to others for an expensive price, some rip people off with their junk and get a bad reputation. Us if we give away junk we’ll say junk, if good we’ll say good. In this sport if you give away too many of your good birds out, you’ll be flying against your own blood, and for some people, that’s not how champions are made or remain at the top.
