In 1984 I could test the first Mac in a computer shop in Caracas. I found the concept excellent and easy to learn. Ten minutes after, I could draw with Mac Paint. In 2001, I had to work hard to find again my marks with macOS X. 😅

Pity that it skips System 7.0, though. The step from (mostly) B/W System 6 to color, but before it is called MacOS, feels like an important step on the way. And too bad MacOS X 10.0 seems to have been distorted (it looks like a 4:3 recording stretched into 16:9 aspect ratio).
I used to work with a Mac 128 (it was released before Mac 512 & Mac Plus). We needed an extra long custom screwdriver to remove the top which had the signatures of the designers inside...
Wow! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I was in art school in the mid-90’s learning graphic design and we had old Mac classics running System 6. But we did have two color Macs running System 7. But I totally geeked out when System 8 debuted with that new look! I almost wish Apple could add in settings that would, on the surface, emulate some of the look of those older versions.
I even have a set of developer CDs from the beginning until about System 7 or so laying here. Good old time. Copy and paste .... even the system was just copied and pasted to another Mac, if needed. Loved it.

Absolutely. But to be more complete IMHO, it really should start with the Lisa OS, which was the precursor to the Mac in just about every way (Steve had run the Lisa project before getting kicked out and taking over the Macintosh project and transforming it into a baby Lisa). Also the very long System 7 evolution should probably be included (a whole lot changed between 7.0 and 7.5.5).

I guess I'm just a big fan of computing history and the history of operating systems in particular. I hadn’t used a Mac since middle school, and when I entered high school in 2004, it was all Windows machines. Fast forward to late last year, November 2023, and I get an M2 MBA with Sonoma. Crazy how features I came to rely on has been around since Snow Leopard at earliest. And macOS STILL feels great to get around just like it did before.

I've only started using Macs since 2018. I grew up way too poor to ever have a Mac when I was young. In fact for the first 4 years when I was born (2000-2004) we didn't even have a computer in the house. I always dreamed of having one when I was growing up. I finally got a 2012 MacBook Pro in 2018 when I was about to start uni, and I adored it. I still use it and still love it today - for a 10 year old laptop it is amazing! In February 2021 I was lucky enough to get the M1 2020 MacBook Pro, and it is beautiful. 😍

Very cool. I have never seen most of those. I thought the very first Mac OS was the one I played Oregon Trail on in elementary school. Any want to educate me on what computer was in elementary schools that had Oregon Trail on it?
I miss skeuomorphism. Something that I forgot about why how the skeuomorphic UI design elements are supposed to resemble the physical materials the Macintosh computers were made out of. This is most evident in Mac OS X which resembled that generation’s iMacs and PowerMacs. An earlier OS 9 Quicktime introduced the machined metal look later adopted by all Mac OS before they started making laptops and keyboards like that. And later on we had that glass Aero look with the rounded corners.
Attention to detail to I guess what typeface Apple used in their keynote announcements. You used the classic one until OS X 10.1. Then Myriad until Mavericks. Then Helvetica Neue for that one time when it was used in Yosemite. Then it’s San Francisco from El Capitan going forward.
Leopard was so good. And then Snow Leopard just turbo charged it! They optimized it so thoroughly that the file size for the OS went from 16 GB to only 6 GB

Not quite. At the time it was feared that the monitor screen size had become so large the user would not be able to easily locate the mouse arrow/cursor on the monitor. The purpose of the eyes was to help the user to easily locate the mouse pointer.
I'm assuming this was done on a virtual machine. as such, it was utilizing state of the art hardware. Why not show the actual speed at which these OS's actually ran at? I used Apple II and it always ran at a crawl.... spent lots of time watching the clock icon ..... waiting.....
well, starting from mac os x idk i forgot, they named the OS after places in california. so its plausible and likely to get ur concept to be “used”. you can pile up certain operating system wishlist in mac concepts, use landmarks in california as your title, and get unprecedented credit when it becomes real.
The most noticeable thing here is that every version is an evolutionary change from the one before, even the ones that felt like a drastic redesign at the time. There's not a Windows 8 anywhere among them.
Every windows OS since 8 has been really ugly. XP, Vista, and 7 are tops Windows. 8, 10, and 11 are too square, angular, and harsh. It looks more dated than even XP and definitely Vista/7. 10 and 11 almost have a callback to the windows 90’s series. I don’t like it. Plus I really hate that big search bar beside start on 10. I hate everything about 10 really. Lol. macOS is beautiful. I switched to mac this year and have no regrets
