  • Sometimes sheep or goats experience vaginal or uterine prolapses in the late stages of pregnancy. We show you how to treat your ewe or doe in case this happens. See how to clean and replace the prolapse, as well as how to make an easy homemade prolapse harness from just a roll of vet wrap or gauze to help keep everything back inside. I'll also cover what medical care your animal should receive to ensure a good outcome when she does give birth.

      @@YouCanFarm she had emergency c section as kid was head first and her hips too small. She was carrying triplets. Unfortunately, lost them, but she is recovering well. Triplets obviously the reason for the double prolapse. She won't be bred again. I have a valuable tool in my belt now thanks to you!

    I've read (and seen) A cow's prolapse after birthing. No way to describe a huge, boggy lump of tissue that doesn't want to stay where it should! Prolapse harnesses can be a God send -- but your home made one worked very nicely.
    Excellent teaching!

    Thanks! Good info. Do you have a video on managing your herd and keeping them from inbreeding. Do you keep a chart? Ear tags? Do you get rid of baby boys? How about the dad? Is he separated from his daughter ewes?

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a video that covers most of how we care for our sheep: th-cam.com/video/qufJJELaYuE/w-d-xo.html
      I keep a spreadsheet with all the info about each sheep. I use ear tags, but I can identify each individual by name. We band our baby boys at 8 weeks old, and separate our rams out into appropriate breeding groups in the late summer and fall when the ewes come into heat. The rest of the year everyone lives together.

    Just saw your video yesterday and took action on our prolapsed ewe who is due in the coming weeks. With the vet wrap harness on, she hasn't prolapsed since..... thank you so much for sharing :) How long can she keep the harness on? Can she lamb with the harness on?

    • @YouCanFarm
      @YouCanFarm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm so glad it's helping her! She can wear it for weeks if need be, just check it daily to make sure it's not irritating her anywhere. If it gets too wet or dirty just replace it with a fresh vet wrap roll. She should have no trouble lambing with it on, mine do great!
