    This is how all family run farms are like. Great video guys.

    You learn so much from these videos, I had no idea that bad silage could cause cows to lose their calves. Uh oh, lambing season is imminent that will put an end to Alan''s good mood, lol. Great vid, love Clydes Farm.

    Alan sheet the side walls and put more than one sheet on the top of the clamp.
    Then cover the whole clamp with tyres and you find the birds don't peck through the sheet so easily.👍
    Also fixing the guttering on the adjacent buildings will stop the water problem rotting the silge down the sides of the clamp. 👍

    Stone bags down each side of the silo will keep the silage better and role the pit for a while longer should be better quality. But I would suggest stone bags down each side of the walls

    And who was it that rolled that pit..🤔..

  • @andrewmckee8874
    @andrewmckee8874 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cut a good used cover into 3 pieces. Back and sides. hanging half inside all walls. Fill silo to a height that will leave it mostly above wall height after being rolled and settled. Fold covers on the edges. Put your new cover on. Then and old cover and bag down the walls and adjust for settling. Old fish or garden netting over the top greatly reduces bird damage.. PLASTER, CONCRETE and CEMENT are porous, any water trapped between the cover and wall will gradually soak through into the clamp. Good drainage also required until clamp has well settled.

      @farmflix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      was rolled that night and the next day

    • @DrattedOwnz
      @DrattedOwnz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@farmflix it's very easy for me to preach and be an 'expert' on TH-cam, but here we go...
      Rolling the next day is really a big no-no, that's typically why you will see so much mould and fluffiness on the top of your silage.
      Driving on silage the next day causes the top layer to act as a bellows, pressing out the gases held (mostly CO2) and reintroducing oxygen.
      Get the silage in, spend an hour rolling it and then get the cover on it straight away - a pain if you finish at 1am but worth it every time, even if it's just set on top loosely. Cling film and a black side sheeting cover for that pit should be around ~£150.
      I'm looking forward to see how the green cover turns out.

    Not rolled well enough. That's why top block is fluffy looking. Need a tractor rolling full time when buck raking. Blocks at the sides or sausage bags. I think a roof silo helps to.. interested in seeing the other side of that clamp
